17-0 Irish,... The real story will be how Jones quits football forever after the game and joins a convent... Spends the rest of his days learning how to sit down without ripping the stitches....
Oklahoma fans... dont be like this guy, it didnt turn out too well for him
The good stuff starts at 1:01

You quoted my post but obviously did not read the last line
With that said, y'all have to hope that we are not much improved since the KSU game and that our success is due to the defenses we've played (Tech, Texas, and KU). I think that's your general sentiment.

Isn't this the point of a message board? To waste time by talking about, rehashing, and arguing about useless information and statistics that will have no impact on the game?
To me, it's fun. That's why I'm here, even if it is pointless or a waste of time. The game will be won on the field, but in the meantime I will enjoy the week leading up to a historic game between two of college football's heavyweights.
I posted this in the other thread, but wanted to repost it here because there is a growing sentiment from the Boomer Sooners that we wont be ready to handle their hurry up offense. So what are they basing this on? Because they already said they don't plan on winning the TOP, so is it the amount of plays they run per game?
Oklahoma ranks #70th in the country in plays per game. BYU, Miami and Michigan St all average more plays per game.
But yeah... sure... that will be the deciding factor....

Well, the reason we have faith in it is because it has worked pretty well most of the time. Don't you like the idea of moving so fast that the defense doesn't have time to substitute, even though the down and distance are constantly changing?
(It has backfired before. When it is clicking, we score fast or at least flip the field. When it is not clicking, we just put our defense back out on the field that much faster.)
But what I am saying is that it simply isn't true that OU runs more plays than what we are used to. In fact, according to the link provided, they are running less than their season average over the last 3 games.
We have played three teams that run more plays per game than you (and had better TOP) and had no problem substituting or winning. Again, OU ranks #70 in plays per game. They are not the high tempo team you guys believe them to be.
Finally, our coach is a spread guy. He has prepared our team for spread opponents. It's not like we aren't a well conditioned team.
In fact, because of the way Kelly has recruited, we're more condidtioned that we've been in years. He's recruited better athletes, more versitile guys. LB'ers that can play down, or roam the zones (Ishaq and Spond) along with Dlline guys that can create pressure and young safeties (Farley) that can come down and play run support.
We have a versitile defense. As a unit, it's the best I've seen in a long, long time.

It's not just about conditioning. That is sometimes a nice side-effect, to gas the opponent. But that's not the end-all.
-It's about ND not having time to change personnel b/n 1st and 10, 3rd and 2, 2nd and 5, 1st and 10. That's massively advantageous to the OU offense.
- It's about ND's defensive coaches having to playcall on the fly.
- It's about having more chances to score. More snaps = more scoring opportunities.
- It's about the mental pressure on the defense to make the right decision over and over again in rapid succession.
I don't think most OU fans think that ND doesn't have the horses, or that the horses aren't in as good of shape as OU's.
Again, my man... this isn't actually what OU does because it is clearly disproven by the amount of plays they run a game. You guys don't get more plays to score or even more snaps because you rank #70 in plays per game. It's physically impossible what you are proposing.
We have played three teams that do what you are inferring better than OU and it hasn't worked against us. Our team prides itself on conditioning and we substitute quickly and effectively.
This thread is very entertaining to say the least.
One thing I would like to point out is the fact that this Oklahoma team is not that of 2008. I have seen a few different remarks made about the Cincinnati vs Oklahoma contest, in which Kelly coached.
First of all, I believe that game was 24 to 20 in the third quarter, which would hardly scream blowout. I also think that the starting quarterback for the Bearcats went down that game. Additionally, that Oklahoma team had Sam Bradford, and went to the National Championship game.
I think it is pretty safe to say that this Oklahoma team is not nearly as great as the 2008 team. Also, this Notre Dame team is a far cry better than the Bearcat team of that same year. The only thing that is consistent is the coaches.
With all that being said, this game will come down to coaching. Both teams have the players to succeed on a BCS level, and at this point should know their identity. It will most likely be a dogfight no matter who comes out on top.
For all the Oklahoma fans, please spare us the history lessons on past Oklahoma teams, because it holds no water on the game being played Saturday. This includes the 79-4 record at home since Stoops arrived, as the 4 in the loss column is in "recent" history. GO ND!
Miami went with Oregon speed against ND for a few drives in terms of lining up quickly and running a play. ND handled it just fine.

It's not a 100%-on, all the time thing. We throw out the no-huddle at random, and at-will. Like I said - it's not about conditioning, and it's literally impossible for you to substitute efficiently enough when we aren't. But we'll see how much we no-huddle, and how effectively we do it. I think we will need to quite a bit since y'all are the best defense we'll play all year. We need to use every tool in the box.
The "more plays than everyone else" thing was more like 2008.
Disregard it at your own peril. I guarantee your coaches find it to be a threat.
I saw a wide open receiver who dropped 2 balls. what is crazy is the "U" did not try it again. considering they play flag football , you would have thought they would chunk it some more
I see what you're throwing down. Yeah, ya never know. As IrishLion said, Miami tried to put some no huddle in and it backfired on them in a big way. I truly think that if OU wants to come out and take us out of rhythm, they come out grinding it out on the ground and save the no huddle for the fourth.
