I also heard that they're deporting that 20 year old Saudi that they were "guarding" in the hospital....

What's the hurry?

Anything to this?

I think 2 of the guys in the article Pat linked above may be the 2 guys they are looking for and have sentr out to law enforecement agencies etc (not to the public).

the one with the white hat and the one with that blue jumpsuit.

reporters who have seen the pix are describing what in my view is those 2 to a tee (talked about the hat etc)

That poor kid. Just standing watching a race....gets blowed up.....some asshat racist tackles him for being foreign and holds him until police can take him.....goes to the hospital and is falsely labeled as a terrorist publicly across the internet in a story the whole world was watching. I mean, if I were him it would be very difficult for me not to hate America right now. I hope he can differentiate between the bad ones and the rest of us.

I think we all need to all take a step back from hypothesizing about the attack. Precedent does not preclude the possibility of unforeseen (obviously) terror tactics. Asymmetric warfare (as terrorists view and practice it) is adaptive.

If the media has reinforced (by way of error) any theme of late, it's that getting all the right information is of paramount importance.

There's a lot of people that are really good at what they do working around the clock to give all of us the answers to our questions, but they will never come as fast as we want them.

Patience and prayers seems to be the best course of action.

Edit: I think the axiom, "don't make decisions when your angry" could easily be extended to, "don't make judgements when we don't know all the facts".

Excellent post! Andy I am interested on your comments on the sophistication of the devices, and their placement. As is I would really like your opinion. Your perspective really makes sense.

Those photo's kind of made me laugh. Especially the one with "FBI" labeled at the bottom. These are pictures out of the group with dark sinned people, or people with a backpack, or people standing alone, singled out. Their may be a bomber.

But as the news says, they think they have the Lord & Taylor video camera of the site from which they got a good "face,: and appear to have a package placement of the second bomb. Then they walk the pictures backward, don't they?

Reps! (Most people didn't get that from the reporting though.)

I know we covered this...But the more I read, the stranger it gets....

-According to terrorism expert Steve Emerson, 20-year-old Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, the Saudi national first suspected of being involved in Monday’s twin bomb attack, is being hastily deported. Alharbi was put under armed guard in hospital after the bombing, was visited by Saudi diplomat Azzam bin Abdel Karim, and later had his apartment raided by federal and state law enforcement agents.

“I just learned from my own sources that he is now going to be deported on national security grounds next Tuesday, which is very unusual,”
said Emerson

At the current moment, it's far fetched...but not implausible. To just dismiss anything like this during an investigation is naive. At least deserves a look.

If he is innocent, maybe it's for his own safety... Since he's already guilty in some people's eyes. Not your Pat, but whoever is putting this info out there.

CBS News this Morning identified the individual authorities are looking for as a white male, 6' to 6'2", wearing a gray hoodie, black backpack and a white hat on backwards. They also indicated that the FBI has triangulated what they believe to be this individual's cell phone.

They have his cell phone? That sounds promising

Well, they at least think they do. Nothing on whether or not they have tracked this person down and verified if he is the person on the video they are using.

Isnt there a guy in some of the pictures that were in that article I posted (and numerous others), wearing a white hat and hoodie? Same guy??

I hear they actually have images/video of a guy dropping off a bag at the bomb site and then walking off....Huge.

It seems they know who they're looking for

The guy in the pictures you posted had a black shirt and white hat. I went back and checked.

Jesus. This is why I hate the media and why I hate so many of the people on the Internet. Let the FBI and other law enforcement do their jobs and shut up about "who did it." You (not just you, NYC, but the general "you") don't know dick about who did what. You're just dragging innocent people through the muck.

Everyone that posted the picture of these two high school track runners as possible terrorists should go to jail for a week. The NY Post editors should spend the rest of their miserable lives in jail for their performance this week.

CBS Morning News correspondent John Miller reports that they have the identity of the cell phone user, but do not know if that is indeed the person who put down the backpack.

He also reports that amateur sleuths on the Internet are making this difficult, because even some law enforcement agencies are using the numerous photographs out there on the Internet as possible leads.

Yet CNN and NBC and Fox get a free pass?

Sorry, but unfortunately this is a part of this kind of thing. Following up on ANY and ALL leads is a MUST.

If none of those "kids" were harmed or abused, then I have no problem with authorities following up on leads or asking them a few questions. It's a part of the game.

And i'm betting that it wasn't all caused by the "internet". They probably had pics and list long before the internet got to it.

I'm not saying it's right to arrest an innocent person....but in this sitution, they need to investigate each lead.

Doctors can't save every patient...Officers don't get every arrest correct. As long as the people weren't hurt, I got no issue with this.

Of course they blame the internet. But the same internet has helped them on many cases....

And don't worry...those kids will sue and get paid.

And they should.

No one should get a pass, except law enforcement. The problem with the news personalities and these amateur sleuths is their politics and prejudice cloud the truth and hinder the pursuit of the actual offenders.

We agree there. I'm not saying that these sites don't get things wrong and put out false info...but it's the public to blame.

In a sick way, we eat this stuff up.

In his defense, he stated that as well. I believe he referenced the DC sniper case.

As I went back and read my original post, it seems he blamed the amateur sleuths, not the Internet in general. The Internet doesn't spread misinformation, people do!

I'm definitely not proposing that any news organization that acted irresponsibly should get a pass, there are simply too many to name. And yes, LAW ENFORCEMENT needs to pursue every lead, but the media doesn't. It isn't the media's job to solve crimes.

I get that you can't reasonably expect to control individuals on the internet, but that doesn't mean that people that engage in that kind of speculation - the kind that literally makes innocent people's lives hell - aren't irresponsible. You can't stop people from doing a lot of bad things. That doesn't make doing those things right. To equate speculation that involves labeling innocent people as terrorists to talking about recruiting is ridiculous. Putting aside the clear racial undertones wrapped up in this particular case of Internet sleuthing, you can't take such a casual attitude about destroying people's lives because you have to address your feelings of helplessness and insecurity by trying to solve a crime that you aren't in any way qualified to solve.

Seems like we should get an explanation here. I'm not sure the public is going to passively dismiss this. I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any stretch but this doesn't seem legit at all.
