What will "That Team" Score against our defense?

That is the team that scares me, with our offense degresssing will we be able to score enough to counter what our defense gives up?? I don't think so, hope so, but don't think we can in our current state.

Yep. Avg temp is about 60 in Dec/Jan. I've been there several times in the winter. Last two times I was there in Dec, 70s.

I think the bowl will be the Sun Bowl v Utah or the Belk Bowl v an SEC team.

Music City will likely take Louisville since it's close by and should garner a lot of fan turnout.

Doubt they'd go w/ the Pinstripe Bowl again two years in a row...talk about a caricature of a program we'll have become based on that perception.

You gotta accept the bowl b/c of the practices. I'd add that the kids deserve it b/c you know they want to go (if anything for the swag) but I'm hoping the coaches give them an ultimatum and insist they don't see a trace of what we saw in LA vs our biggest rival. Reality or not, the perception was that ND didn't want to be there...and that's not just from ND fanatics on message boards...that's from analysts & commentators that cover the sport.

I'd like to see Zaire get a full game. After Golson's/the offense's struggles, I think he deserves a shot at a full four quarters.

Hoping BK agrees with the logic. It will also paint a much clearer picture of what the competition will be like in the Spring.

It just kills so many birds to start Malik in the bowl game that I'd be disappointed if Kelly doesn't.

Light a fire under Golson going into the off season, give Malik a legit chance to start and finish a game, and see how effective the offense is with a run-focused spread attack.

Doesn't mean Malik has to be the guy next year, but what is there to lose?

If BK starts Golson for the sole reason of keeping Golson happy, he can GTFO. I don't see that being a deciding factor at all.

If Golson transfers because he's not starting a bowl game, and can't see the big picture of getting things re-started in the spring, then he's mentally broken/unstable for sure, and it doesn't matter whether he's around or not.

Starting Zaire (after a month of bowl practice) would be a clear indication that the program is moving on for 2015. Quarterbacks transfer all the time for playing time. Despite his faults, plenty of programs would get in line for Golson's talents.

I think we'd all make the same decision too. You (I assume) have your ND degree and might as well give another system a try if the program goes in another direction. It's business.

I dunno, I would rather play some of those other teams than Penn State. They may come out fired up, given the fact this is their first bowl game in a few years and it's coming against a high profile opponent. If our defense wasn't so beat up, absolutely, I'd say go for it and smash the Pedsters. I'd rather take my chances with Utah or Tennessee given the circumstances though.

I think Zaire deserves a full-game audition, and I hope he gets it, so as to provide a spark and make things an ACTUAL competition going into the spring (rather than BK's usual *competition*). But even if Zaire DOES start the bowl game, I feel BK will give Golson every chance to be the starter again in 2015.

I do. Bowl practices are a time to regroup with a month of practices often compared to spring ball in terms of development. If the team went that long and regrouped and came out with Zaire at the helm, I think it's a clear sign Golson is done as ND's starter.

I think we all agreed last offseason that ND should shape itself into a spread power option team and thought Golson would open so many things with the read option. Golson is clearly holding the run game back like Rees did, whereas Zaire can actually run it. That's super intriguing, obviously, so I want to see Zaire. But I think the safer option is to drill read option with Golson during all bowl practices and see what happens.
