you may well be right, but don't slam Charlie totally...he got us out of the shtt that Willingham gave us...and, don't forget, those guys were a year older and more experienced when Kelly got here...maybe if weis had one more year things would have been different...who knows

That's exactly my point.

Preferably you'd want a bowl game in FL, TX or CA. Playing one anywhere else right now is pointless for recruiting reasons.

Ideally this ND team wants to play a team that isn't firing on all cylinders offensively, a spread/air raid team or a power rushing team could be a bloodbath :/

I can't seem to find the injury list, but who's to say that a lot of this team won't be healthy (at least a little) by the time the bowl game arrives? The defense is terrible, but it's mostly due to it being paper thin. Get some guys back and get some first team reps with Malik and McGlinchey and this team should be able to win a mediocre-level bowl game, imo.

I agree. The location is awful to begin with, but the fact that they had to play there last year just makes it worse.

i agree and playing PSU makes it only less bearable, if it was Maryland or Rutgers I'd just turn the invite down or go play in the Hawaii bowl or something

I think at this point, ND needs the practice and they need to win a game to get some momentum going into next year. If they lose the bowl game, you're talking about an epic meltdown after starting 7-1, you lose momentum, and most likely you'll start to see recruiting issues. With the depth concerns on this team, recruiting is the last thing in which they need issues. I think they need consider which team they are most likely to beat, and go with it.

Lions lost to Northwestern by 23 and to The Hokes by 5.

I'd like to see two ND WRs moved to Safety today. We need bodies without braces, splints, and casts. I'd take Golson. Move Lombard to DT where he isn't required to block. Then get a Miracle Max to heal Cody's wheel.

With all the Weis love fest...Notre Dame should higher him back, he has no job currently. Heck he can get his 6th year and turn things around like you all think he would have.

How is losing a bowl game with the long injury list any different from losing the last 4 games with a long injury list?

The vast majority of injured are not going to be healthy and ready to play in 3 weeks.

There is an acute shortage of healthy people and unless the team goes to Lourdes in time to get some meaningful practice preparation ND will be playing more younger, less experienced players.

ND should and will play in a bowl game. The young guys need it.

I wouldn't call a "Weis Love Fest" by any means. I'd describe it more as a "Kelly Love Fest", and I believe it's just unfair how so many put Brian Kelly on a pedestal since he's gotten to Notre Dame and the university has given him more than any coach at Notre Dame that I can remember. In his 5th season Kelly should be delivering by now and he's not.

This is the last game of the season. It's the last chance to alter the perception of the team. It's the last chance to send the seniors out with a win. It's the last chance to stop the bleeding. It's the last chance to gain some positive momentum going into next year. And it's the last game to get some positive vibes with recruits. Losing this game may be understandable and forgivable, but it certainly will not help with any of the items I've listed.

Perception:

Starting 7-1 and finishing 7-6; losing 5 of the last 6 and losing a bowl game

or

Starting 7-1 and finishing 8-5; losing 4 of the last 6 but finishing with a bowl victory

The overall records are still lousy. The month of November is still lousy. But at least winning the bowl game ends the season on a positive note. Losing this game will not make or break next year's season. Losing the bowl game isn't the end of the world. Losing won't destroy this program. Everyone knows ND has some depth/injury issues. But it's like BK said, these kids just want to win a football game at this point. A win softens the blow. Another loss just makes it worse.

He had a 12-0 season and took a team to the National Championship game! He has had an above .500 record for every year he has been here. None of the past three coaches can say that.

Some commentor on OFD saying ND should reject a bowl invite and let the players rest and go on holidays...LOL

I would take a loss in a bowl game in exchange for three extra weeks of practice if I were a young team. The benefits will outweigh any loss at this point simply because ND will probably not be expected to win with all the injuries, etc.

Just saw this tweet @angdicarlowndu: As for possible Notre Dame opponents...

Belk, Music City & taxslayer bowls all vs SEC

Sun bowl vs Pac12

Pinstripe bowl vs Big Ten

Short of miraculous healing crystals being applied to all the injured players, I don't see how we stay within 2 TDs of any SEC opponent.

Bought my Belk Bowl tickets! Hope I get to be an NC State fan for the day instead of watching ND get embarrassed.

I bet we could hang with Tennessee. But we should definitely find out who the opponent is before accepting...these bowls have selections 3-8, so one of them could be Georgia.
