Auburn could be even worse. Fast paced offense that can run with power. Uh oh.

Bowl Projections

Injuries better not lighten up pre-bowl practice. We clearly didn't do much live tackling leading up to the BCSNCG and it immediately showed. Our tackling has been 10x worse this year in the best game than 2012's worst game.

I'd be lighting it up with a $hit-ton of live drills. Hit, hit, hit.

Oh damn. At this point I think Holy Trinity Middle School is too physical for ND. No matter who we play from the SEC, we are fucked.

Yeah Im not confident we could beat any bowl eligible team in the nation. Had we not turned into a dumpster fire I would have loved to take on a mid-level SEC game and show that we could at least be competitive with SEC teams. Now I would much rather play a team like Utah or Maryland. That way if we get blown out no one outside of our fanbase would be interested enough to really care.

I can't seem to find the injury list, but who's to say that a lot of this team won't be healthy (at least a little) by the time the bowl game arrives? The defense is terrible, but it's mostly due to it being paper thin. Get some guys back and get some first team reps with Malik and McGlinchey and this team should be able to win a mediocre-level bowl game, imo.

Most, if not all; of the injuries sustained were season enders requiring surgery. Still unknown regarding Redfield (broken rip), Hayes (high ankle sprain) & Martini. I've read where Cody Riggs will likely be told to concentrate on getting healthy for his Pro Day and not play in the bowl. Counting the four academic suspensions, the defense has lost 17 players this year...that's almost a 2-deep.

I'm confident that they can get the offense fixed to the point of putting points up but that D isn't going to stop anyone...especially if BVG insists on running the same scheme w/ inferior personnel. That goes for BK too. He really needs (IMHO) to incorporate the read option....even if he goes back to Golson (which I suspect will be the case)....the kid should be given an ultimatum, "running the football as our QB is a vital piece of our offense....learn to do it w/o fumbling or we'll try someone who can". The kid gloves need to come off.

Agreed but the depth is paper thin and that needs to be addressed long term before it happens again. Start gray shirting or allowing JUCOs (that can qualify) b/c adhering to 85 scholarships has yet to work out for this team when you factor in injuries, suspensions & defections.

I think the bowl will be the Sun Bowl v Utah or the Belk Bowl v an SEC team.

Music City will likely take Louisville since it's close by and should garner a lot of fan turnout.

Doubt they'd go w/ the Pinstripe Bowl again two years in a row...talk about a caricature of a program we'll have become based on that perception.

You gotta accept the bowl b/c of the practices. I'd add that the kids deserve it b/c you know they want to go (if anything for the swag) but I'm hoping the coaches give them an ultimatum and insist they don't see a trace of what we saw in LA vs our biggest rival. Reality or not, the perception was that ND didn't want to be there...and that's not just from ND fanatics on message boards...that's from analysts & commentators that cover the sport.

Lord, please no! Quitters should NOT get another shot! He 'gave up' Saturday, that was fairly obvious!

Does that include people like Springman?

Can you list all 17 for me? Thanks.

1. Your fans deserve to see the season end on a better note than watching you run away crying after your biggest rival punched you in the mouth 5 minutes into the last game

2. You look like an entitled brat if you don't

3. You have pride

Yes to 1. & 2.

Hell yes!!! to 3.

Josh Dobbs and Tennessee would hammer ND. I truly believe that.

The same team that's wins were against Utah st, Arkansas st, Chattanooga, South Carolina, Kentucky and Vanderbilt?

That team?

How u can u have any confidence this team can beat them after watching NW go up and down the field and watching USC look like the 2000's Rose Bowl teams?

All of the above have missed games due to injury or suspension. Most will not be available for the bowl game.

The question is "Why aren't players being developed?" Ben Councell, Jalen Brown, John Turner, Chase Hounshell, Anthony Rabasa, Josh Atkinson, Doug Randolph. These kids were rated 3-4 star players and are reportedly all healthy now (Councell & Hounshell have battled injuries previously) yet they are being passed by true freshmen on the depth chart? True freshmen that look like a Division III squad b/c they're totally lost on most plays. I don't blame the kids, I question the coaches. If the schemes are too complicated for every non-starter who are proven bright enough to gain admission to ND...then it's time to dumb the defense down. If they're just not talented enough, then I question the player development b/c these kids weren't walk-ons or lightly regarded recruits w/ no other Power 5 offers.

Ok I'll bite. It's the game with Tennessee that would give me confidence. Tennessee doesn't look like a team that would "hammer" ND. Nothing about their team jumps out and says "OMG!! we have to avoid this one". They haven't beat anyone worth a shit all year long.

I (unlike you), have a little bit of faith in the coaching staff to get these boys up for the bowl game. Regardless who they are playing, I think we'll see a better team.

Wow, Notre Dame fans discussing which team they'd like to see as an opponent in a bowl game based on 'who would hammer the Irish less'. Never never in your wildest nightmare would anyone see that one coming. This is pathetic.

Right now how can we beat any bowl team. Heck, Navy and NW scored 39 and 40 against us. And now we are even worse on defense. Oh wait, they scored 39 and 40 with Sheldon, Riggs, Drue, Cage, and Jones. What is going to happen now. This bowl game will just be the dagger to this season. A team that looked unprepared against up tempo, option, pro style offenses. And had a hard time with everybody healthy on offense. I know the practices are important, but getting embarrassed for the 5th straight game is just going to be horrific.

If we couldn't be ready against NW, how can we do it against an SEC team not named Vandy.

Our team is in serious trouble. I mean serious. We have become a laughing stock of college football.

So very sad, and how sad is our offense with everybody there except DD and BK can't get them ready at all. Offensive Guru? Maybe look at the quick slant or run more? instead of those long developing routes. Oh well, if BK can't change---he can't change and it is what it is.

Just can't imagine us not getting blasted and totally embarrassed in a bowl game.

Anarin, I guess you are right a little bit. How can we not see a better team come out in a bowl game? I don't know if I have ever seen a worse defense than we have seen over the last 5 games. and that includes the ones Jimmy Claussen couldn't even score enough for. Or an offense that looks more lost? Are we a throw throw throw team, or a run throw team. 12 games and we can't even figure that out ?? Inexcusable. Horrible coaching there.

But, at least the defense can't get any worse. I think a NCAA II team in the top 10 have better defense than ours, or at least coached how to play more. But, how can our guys look so lost? Do they not at least play on the scout team?

But, they can't be worse than we saw at USC. That maybe the worst defense ND has ever, ever rolled out.

I go to the university of Tennessee, but have been born and raised a die hard ND fan, and everybody is wanting to play ND Bad. Butch has UT's program on the right track. They are very young, I think 20ish true freshmen got quality Playing time this year and the whole campus is fired up about being in a bowl for the first time in 4 years. I've watched every Nd and UT game this year and UT looks like a little better of a team at this point. Faster team that dosent turn the ball over. 21 of 22 staters returning next year too. Could be a scary team next year. Also their QB Josh Dobbs is in a couple of my engineering classes. Great guy, very humble, very smart.
P.S. I would be cheering for the Irish... And all my friends will hate me
