...kinda covers my sentiments about Tommy. I for one will always give Tommy a break because he did indeed step in as a Freshman, and deliver some needed wins. Arguments abound trying to decide if those are Tommy's wins or not. Point is on some very big stages the kid didn't implode....and we got Ws.

More recently good teams have us figured out with Tommy at the helm, and Tommy/Coach Kelly have failed to overcome those adjustments.

I am a fan of a new QB because w/o Floyd, we need someone to be able to convert with their feet. Thats not Tommy. However, I think its pretty ****** and juvenile to celebrate Tommy's trials off the field so folks can get their wish on it...

Don't know how to take this one. It's like this guy hasn't actually watched any football and is merely defending Tommy because he thinks its' the right thing to do. He has to understand that Tommy was the QB at Notre Dame....He's gonna get his a$$ kissed, and kicked. Comes with the territory.

Like phGreek said, good teams have figured out his weaknesses. He's not particularly strong armed, nor can he move. He also turns the ball over WAY too much. So I'm not sure the criticism is misplaced when it comes to his game. I was never really impresseed with Tommy's game or skill set. He's not a guy that I ever pegged to lead the Irish to a title. In fact, I don't know any Irish fans that really believed that.

Good article to put things back into perspective. People who have been celebrating that Tommy was arrested hoping that he might get kicked out and someone else might start are not true fans.

Mike swipes cards occasionally at South Dining Hall. Great guy... also a huge Penguins fan and I made sure I reminded him frequently of that when my Flyers handed it to the Pens.

^THIS I express myself as a passionate fan. I may not express myself sometimes as humane as some would like, but passion is what drives us. Never wish bad on our players, but if they bring it on themselves another story. My hope is this releases BK from the known, and allows him to move forward with the unknown. I hope he can give the more talented QB's the needed seat time now that will propel their abilities. Tommy has shown his cards on the field, and they're aren't good enough.

He's just referring to the 4 game streak at the end of 2010, beating SC and Miami made Rees a temporary star to a lot of fans. I personally wanted Crist to start last season and am a pretty big critic of Rees but you can't deny that there was a huge bandwagon for him.

I wouldn't boo because I don't boo anyone who is "in the arena" taking their shot.

Because its classless. Fans are not "entitled" to results from the players. All a kid can do is work his butt off, do what the coaches ask of him, and keep it clean off the field. If he is doing that, you can't ask any more from him as a fan. Booing him says, "I don't care what you do, this is all about me."

I've been to Steeler games at the end of Chuck Knoll's run...To Yankee games pre Jeter...Eagles and Phillies games...Booing was pretty prevalent at those places during those times. I chuckled at some of the stuff people did and said...I've been to every level of event from Tball to pro ball, and the officials ALWAYS get boos.

I can process all of that...don't remember ever doing it...but I get it.

But you send our boys out there saturdays...knowing they stand for the integrity of "Student-athlete", and are in such the minority...booing them or chucking snowballs at them is just wrong...no way around it, no excuse for it.

I don't understand booing anyone playing a game until they get paid to do it...and while scholarships are nice compensation...you all know its not the same as being a professional at anything.

Your thought sounds noble and all, but it's not realistic. The crowd isn't there to make the players feel all warm and fuzzy and let them know that they're great human beings...LOL. They're there to watch a sporting event. If they don't like the PRODUCT...cause that's what it is.....then they will boo. They pay money. They can boo.

I was simply asking why the blue and gold game was any different....I mean, if a guy isn't getting it done, he's not getting it done. I don't care if it's practice or the national title game.

I know that we pretend that we're supposed to act differently towards "Athlete-Students" but let's be honest....most people don't seperate. I'm still a fan, paying a crapload of money to go watch my team play. If they're playing like crap...I'm gonna let em have it

The only people who attend or even care about the B & G game are ND fans. I doubt any of the people who attended this years game are our rival's fans.

With that being said, anyone who attended and proceeded to boo Tommy, or any player, should feel ashamed.

No. But that is because I am not a fan of our rival teams. A fan is not there to root for his rivals, and your rival has no such expectations. They know why they are getting booed.

Fans aren't there just to watch a sporting event, they are here to root on their team. They are supposed to make the players feel "warm and fuzzy," to use your phrase, that's called "home field advantage."

You can boo at your kids teammates at a little league game... you pay the league entry fee, it's America, etc., etc. My point is that if you treat the kids like they are a "PRODUCT," that is classless.

I probably would not make the same argument about pro sports, which is a different animal for a number of reasons, but I am not generally a fan of the "entertain me" or "I can do what I want because I paid" mentalities even then.

Look at it this way...I spend 15 bucks to go watch my own kids compete in gymnastics events they already soak me for to the tune of 100 bucks so my kid can "compete"...I haven't booed anyone yet...hehehe!

Same thing with competitive softball tournaments...and hell I can't even drink at the kids tournaments. You'd think I'd be raring to Boo someone's *** right there...

I guess I see the boys of saturday alot like my kids and their friends...just can't boo 'em.

I never boo my team because I'm all in. What I can't stand is the ND fans who sit like a bump on a log during the game, and then get mad at those who are standing/cheering. I hate hearing people who are supposed fans bitch and moan about the team annoying at best. Thats whats nice about having a forum like this to vent.. Go Irish

No ND fan should ever boo an ND player at a home or away game...ever. I dont care how bad the player was, or how bad the player was playing. That should never happen.

Booing the team, then the snowball chucking event during the Syracuse game was/is an ugly stain in the history of the stadium. I hope no one ever forgets that, and hope if it ever happened again those aholes would get whats coming to them. If I am ever at a game, and someone near me started to throw stuff at the team, that person is going to hear something from me. I would not just sit by and watch it happen.

Absolutely not, and never have.....and I have been to over 100 sporting events in my life.

When I was young, my father had LA Raider season tickets and the seats were kinda near the famous tunnel in the coliseum where all the players come out...The first pre-season game was against the 49ers, as the 49ers started to gather at the tunnel where track used to be, most of the crowd started to boo very loudly. I was just in the 4th grade at the time, and I started to boo as well. My father damn near slapped me upside the head, and told me that you NEVER boo anyone, EVER. even players on the other team.

It was one of those moments where your father says something to you, and you know how serious he was and it never needed to be repeated. it was one of those moments for me.....

...I don't know man...I just don't do the boo thing...

I'm totally with you dude, I would never boo another/opposing team and to think of booing my own team is mind-numbingly asinine.

Why? This is a sport, a business. This is part of the game and part of being a big time program. Don't mess up like Rees has and he does not get booed. Not saying that I booed at the B&G game but certainly can say that the fans have the right and good reason to do so.
