Ok, then I'd still pick suburban Minneapolis, Houston, Oakland, D.C., Tampa, Cleveland over suburban Detroit. I'm not alone in that thinking either-- many Michiganites/anders (not sure what the proper term is for that) have left and are leaving.

Tax rates, weather, crime rates, schools, neighborhoods....quality of life usually matter when people are picking a destination to live in for the foreseeable future. Particularly when they have multiple options in picking a location.

I would live in the suburbs of Detroit over Cleveland and DC (possibly Oakland) for sure. There are a lot of really nice cities near Detroit and Michigan is an awesome state to live in. Tons of stuff to do, great outdoors activites, excellent public schools and all four seasons.

Why is O'Brien such a (seemingly) hot commodity right now? Did his work at PSU elevate his stock that much or did he misread the market demand for his services when he decided to take a college job rather than wait for an NFL HC position?

Based on observation it seems his PSU work has been a big factor but any NFL team that sees future coaching stardom in keeping them hovering around average in the B1G is likely to be disappointed, IMO.

I think it's because he has an NFL pedigree...then his "success" as a head coach at what turned into perhaps the worst job (at that time) in DI football confirmed what people already thought-- the guy actually is a good coach/good head coach.

i see your point. guess its my way of saying the fords will stay out of south bend...haha...heres a question for lions fans. what about shanahan for a replacement?

Because Shanahans record in his last 7 seasons (Trying to recall from Peter Kings MMQB) is something like 48-75 with zero play off appearances.

And he's won 1 playoff game in the last 14 years.

Does last season playoff game against Seattle not count?

But yeah, I agree, his best days are gone.

All things being equal, how many people would willingly take a job and relocate to Detroit though? If I'm being courted by businesses in a myriad of cities, the one in Detroit better be for a lot more money and/or some other great incentives for me to pick Detroit over Houston, Minneapolis, D.C., the Bay area, Tampa, etc. Cleveland and Detroit may be a push, but I'd probably pick Cleveland though.

Don't believe that national media buzz. That is all designed to allow the politicians to rape the workers unions pension funds. And steal all the other money that they can get.

Detroit is a little city, when compared to its suburbs. Geographic perspective; the way the roads run it is eight miles from the city center to the burbs. The burbs go out over thirty miles in every direction. The burbs have no problems whatsoever. In the burbs you have Rochester Hills, Troy, Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield, all of which rival great opulent suburbs, anywhere.

Detroit has to be the most attractive job out there, right? QB and WR (check) decent D-Line (check) those are some things you can build around........

From everything I'm reading and hearing Stafford is not motivated and doesn't care to work at getting better or being a team leader. Houston's team has as good if not better players top to bottom compared to Detroit, plus as Wooly pointed out, they have the first pick in the draft.

And Houston was a playoff team last year, so I can see that.....

If the Lions job becomes open, why wouldn't Obrien consider that over Texans? Seems like a better roster.

From a individuals standpoint, there is no income tax in Texas, so the same $ on a contract are worth far more. And would you rather live in Houston or Detroit?

not until after we know its not kelly who is replacing him...

If we start partying now becasue Schwartz is gone we can just drink all the way thru the pain if it becomes BK. I don't think BKs going anywhere.

I don't feel like digging thru twitter, but it said may players were moved by Schwartz as he addressed the team that he was fired while crying.

You also have to add in that Houston has much better ownership and has the #1 overall pick in the draft.
