Binge Worthy Shows - The Thread

Does anyone else watch Silicon Valley on HBO? I lose my shit laughing every single episode. So much better than Veep.

SV is great. Erlich Bachman is one of the best characters on TV right now.

"There's $40 billion in net worth in this room, and you guys are standing around drinking shrimp and talking about what cum tastes like. I HEARD THAT...."

I'm surprised Westworld wasn't mentioned yet. That show rocked my world.

Wow, how did I miss that one. Thank you for that, as it concludes my top 5.

Stranger Things
The OA
Game of Thrones
Westworld
True Detective

The Missing
The Killing (both foreign and US versions are very good)
Prime Suspect (original, and new "1973" version)

I just went through Ranker's list of All Time shows and here's what I came up with as my binge worthy series. I know Seinfeld is not like the others but if it's sponge worthy, it's binge worthy. (*) denotes shows I've binged in a 24hr period.

1a. Sopranos
1b. Seinfeld
2. House of Cards*
3a. The X-Files
3b. OZ
4. Narcos*
5. Entourage
6. Deadwood
7. Six Feet Under
8. Stranger Things*
9. The Man in the High Castle*
10. Goliath*
11. Bosch*
12. Westworld*
13. Band of Brothers
14. True Detective Season 1
15. Breaking Bad* AMC Marathon prior to the last season. My first binge.
16. The OA*
17. Orange is the New Black*
18. American Horror Story - Passively except the clown/circus season*

Will get around to eventually:

1. Homeland
2. The Wire
3. The Pacific
4. Better Call Saul
5. The Fall
6. 13th
7. Sense8
8. Black Mirror
9. Sneaky Pete

I'm usually not into binge watching any series, but my son got me into the following, and I've enjoyed them all, particularly The Wire.

The Wire
The Shield
Fargo

The Missing was excellent, both seasons.

Watching the Handmaids Tale from Hulu now with the fiancé now. It isn't too bad. Very uncomfortable at first.

FYI, if you go to Alluc.to you can watch any single movie/show you want on HD quality. You'll just have to learn how to navigate through the pop ups.

Watching The Sopranos for the first time. Currently on season 3.

Things graduated from "Entertaining Crime Drama" to "Really Really Fucked Up" pretty quickly.

It's pretty good, but there are a few shows I would rank ahead of it at this point. That may change as I progress into further seasons, so I'll wait to pass final and official judgement, and will refrain from naming the shows that I think are better for now.

It will never be as good as some of the shows you've watched when they were current. Part of really liking a series is the pop culture phenomenon that accompanies it in real time and discussing it at the water cooler or the bar.

For me, nothing can ever touch the Soprano's because I was working in the Chicagoland auto industry when Soprano's was on. Seems half the guys I did business with on the retail side were the kids or grandkids of mobsters and that's all they wanted to talk about. Conversely, my chick's office is like a GoT message board. It's like these chicks don't watch Days or GH anymore.

I agree to an extent. Being part of the television zeitgeist adds a layer that Netflix shows, or retroactively-binged shows, don't get. Nostalgia and timeliness also play big roles... you won't want to replace your "favorite" show with something different that you watched later on, even if you know deep down that it was better.

However, my own personal favorite show (and what I think to be the best series I've watched to this point) was one that I binge-watched after everyone else had seen the show during it's standard run.

Haha I didn’t want to say, that way it’s clear that I’m giving The Sopranos every chance to live up to the hype that people set.

(It’s Breaking Bad. All things are measured against Breaking Bad for me.)
