ND won and it was ugly as hell, a lot of frustrating mistakes were made today. seemed like they slept walked through that one which is pretty alarming. Something I think is being overlooked is this team might have a little bit of a captain leadership problem. ND won and that’s about the only positive I feel about it

Also I try not to be a guy who blames refs but these ACC refs continue to be dog shit, that facemask call was atrocious

Someone in the game thread raised the question is the kicking issue to do with Buchner holding the ball somehow? He is the common denominator. It is hard to believe that the 3 best kickers cannot kick PATs better than occasionally without one of the fundamentals being wrong.

It’s CJ Carr’s fault

We simply can’t be a good team if our QB is bald. Get him on rogaine this week so he’s ready for Navy
I was actually thinking that today. He looks like, *aggressively* bald.

The “implied” 38 points, even 31 on 52 plays is not the problem.

They ran 71 plays versus USC, 74 versus NC State, 59 versus Boise (scored 28), 75 versus Arkansas, 64 versus Purdue.

If they finish the non fuckups (fumble, XPs, FG) it’s a more than satisfactory offensive performance. BC had a fucking 10 minute drive lol.

Grayson James played out of his mind for 3 quarters which was the main reason this game was close. Plus JDs fumble.

Sloppy, but it’s one game. If they struggle next week I’ll be more concerned.
Bingo. These clunkers happen. Bye week, on the road, bad opponent. Lot of mental struggles today. Survive and move on. That's it. Got the W. Not the way anyone in the Gug wanted, lessons learned. Get better.

That was me and to be clear I have absolutely no basis for that other than speculation but at some point you’ve got to look at the whole operation.

I’ll be really interested to see the “Did we really get beat that bad” graph from Parker Fleming in a few days.
Felt like we should have won by 28, and I never truly felt like we were in any danger of losing the game.

We got out of a game versus a team that had nothing to lose who was being chippy all game without any noticeable injuries. Also a huge win.

Pittsburgh won convincingly, and hopefully will be ranked when we play them.
That honestly may be more important then how our game went in the grand scheme of things, for the big picture of making the playoffs.

It was better to win than lose & if this is our letdown game we win I’d rather it have been this than against our next 4 opponents. That being said it wasn’t the drama of the game that made me feel like the season might’ve ended today. It may just be buzzwords but we do need to pass the eye test to get into the playoffs with our record, especially since Miami has turned out to be a dud. We needed to bathe in the blood of our enemies today and we instead let them make us sweat.

If someone has something concrete to say, I'm all ears, but Schmidt also sprays the ball kicking off the tee. And I'm not seeing anything at all wrong with these holds to my amateur eye.

The simple answer is that Burnette is hurt and Schmidt is just total ass. Noah Burnette was literally 100% on both field goals and extra points prior to injury. The 3rd string kicker flubbing it can be chalked up to small sample size.

We aren’t the only CFP team to play a close road game against a shitty opponent. Most of them have. No one will remember, especially since we won by 15.

People will literally remember how sick that Jeremiyah Love touchdown run was more than how sloppy we played.

Yeah, Schmidt is the mystery. Like he must have been better in high school, you shouldn’t need to scout a kicker to know that he can make an extra point, stat book should tell you that. Is he just choking under pressure? Got introduced to girls and booze at college and lost his touch?

After I discovered booze and women I couldn't kick extra points either. I couldn't before but thats besides the point

I watched the whole game too. That’s why I understand the nuance of the game and that ND was never really in trouble.
This board does have an over reation sence to It. Its the best one ive found in the last 30 years though. Gotta love the negetive when we win

This game was also a great example of how the clock rules (that were forced by the TV networks in order to fit in more commercials), really change the trajectory of a game when an underdog is able to hold onto the ball and eat clock.

I guess we’ll see. I just tend to feel like as a two loss team, we’ve got to win PLUS look good doing so.

I don’t think anybody here (and you know this) doesn’t want us to make the playoffs. There’s just concern that we may be leaving too much up to a committee of humans whose interests don’t reflect our own.
Its money right. If the playoffs are about the money we are In and Ireland will be drinking through the end of the year

It's weird - I originally thought that this was a night game.

Apparently, Notre Dame didn't get the memo either. This was their worst performance of the year, hands down. The absolutely sleptwalked through this game. Mindless mistakes all over the place. Just a poor overall effort. On the positive side, Carr played like it was a 7 on 7 drill, and the blocking/run on the Love 94 yarder was textbook. The defensive line shut the run down, and rushed the passer really well in the second half. Price can't fumble in the red zone like that, and the fake punt was not a good call. This BC team is terrible, and you shouldn't need to run a fake punt against them. Just line up and take the 6 yards through the air.

The refs - WTF on the Burnham facemask? Just clueless.

But, the biggest red flag here is the kicking game. You can't call yourself a real threat for a national title if you can't make an extra point. How you can come off of a bye week, and have it look that bad is a failure on the coaching staff. Tomorrow, they should be holding open tryouts - bring the freaking soccer team out to try - it can't be any worse than what was on the field today. Also, they should look at a replacement holder, because Buchner is the common element in the failure of multiple kickers. Whatever it is, they need to fix it and fast.

You don't throw back a win, but this one is not one that should bring a degree of comfort to anyone.

I thought nbc always carried the games. It was hard watching rerun games 10 15 years ago and we always had NBC as our network. Im watching USC on our network in primetime isnt that blasphemy
