To be honest, previous moderators have been less lenient with far more reputable posters than irishpat (like Bogtrotter, Neut, etc.), and while I understand that some will disagree with the decision or miss irishpat, know that the decision was made in consensus after many weeks of discussion.

I was definitely far less lenient as a mod, especially when this place was left for dead when jpham first took over and Acamp and Junkhead were fending off the herd with 2 arms behinds their backs as this site resembled the Wild Wild West (and I am absolutely cognizant of my many failures as a mod), but you wouldn't believe how lenient we were with Nuet. I spent many a PM's with him asking him to cool off, and was given many vacations/chances bc of who he was and how he was loved. Like with Pat, it was a consensus among the mods and the admin when we finally had to let him go permanently. And man did we take a lot of heat for it lol.

You guys did the right thing with this one.

I think there are a lot of people happy to be rid of someone who spent the entirety of his time trolling, and I think there are others that have other reasons related to the views he expressed. To each their own.

As has been said, you could break down Pat's argument point by point, and he would simply either ignore the post or he would quote it and then in=gnore its text and write some more bullshit. That's why I always thought he was either a troll or a major league A-hole. Neither is good for the site (insert joke about me here lol). Glad he's gone, and this is coming from someone who leans his way politically on many subjects.

Judging by the last few posts above, Pat is banned permanently? Lets fucking party.

Hahaha I guess we're all pretty much collectively the dimmest bulbs in fixture, as it never seems to work correctly. Although we now have a workaround that hopefully cuts down on the collateral damage.

The only time I actually tried to use it to ban permanently (today) it instead applied 1 point infraction expiring in 1 day to the post. Go figure. Had to try it all over again on another post to get it to take. Cockroaches...

Never liked them creepy things, real or those made from bytes.

Pat would be laughing his ass off if he knew how he's currently the center of attention.

The "entirety of his time trolling"? So he was trolling when he posted photos of his twins and his family? And had that long discussion on variable annuities? Come on.

Calling him a "troll" may be convenient for the banning narrative, but there's a difference between voicing opinions abrasively, and sometimes without tact, on the one hand, and posting for the sole purpose of inflaming emotions (i.e., "trolling"). He did the former, not the latter. So ban him if you want, but he decidedly was not "trolling".

Come on, man.

Well over 90% of his posts were antagonistic, insulting or angry. His posts that weren't were certainly an exception.

Fair enough. But the things he wrote he actually believed, and the opinions posted were truly his own -- he wasn't doing it for any "trolling" purpose.

Not true. Check out LAX's post from a couple pages ago. Pat's most recent commentary in Yeargin's thread was obviously trolling. Maybe he started out as a sincere as$hole, but if so, he willingly assumed the mantle of provocateur.

Right, I can't get in his head for every post. But I think we can all agree that IrishLAX is wrong when he claims that IrishPat spent "the entirety of his time trolling".

My favorite was his joke "I hope Tommy gets injured." Which further lead to the thought:

yes-it&039s-true-this-man-has-no-dick.gif

But whatever, dude was a sensationalist and loved the attention. He had a good run.

I can't speak for him, but there are times I've yelled stuff like that at the TV and didn't mean it literally. Same thing when people called him out for calling someone a "piece of shit". I yell that at the TV all the time. Usually you're just venting.

Depends on your definition of trolling. His consistent MO was to: (1) post something inflammatory; then (2) quote a response to his post (often long and well-reasoned) and refuse to address any part of the quoted argument, or to just change the subject entirely. At a minimum, that's arguing in bad faith, if not outright trolling.

I'll grant that Pat wasn't always insincere. But the majority of his posts fell into the category above more often than not. And to be honest, I do think Pat embraced his role as board fire-starter toward the end, and started trying to get a rise out of people.

Yeah, for sure. I get that. I guess I can appreciate that he felt comfortable enough to treat IE like his living room, if his motive was in fact along those lines. Even with the little posting that I do on here, there are times when I've said the first thing that pops in my mind and then regretted it later and/or edited what I said. I've usually apologized for offending others in the past, because I guess a little recognition that this is a shared space is actually a pretty cool concept worth defending. One can only take the prima donna friend who joins the table, complains more often than not, and thinks only of their opinions as correct for so long...

With that said, joking about injuries is a line I personally don't cross, not out of formality and/or rules of taste, but because it's bad juju I wouldn't wish on anyone, kidding or not.

"Just want to rep you for sticking to your guns. I respect the hell outta you even if we disagree and you're outnumbered."

That is the last rep message that Pat sent to me just a few days before he got banned. I think he believed what he was saying and that he had respect for anyone who did the same. He certainly was never subtle and almost always blunt, but I don't think he was 'trolling' in the sense that he was making stuff up just to piss people off. I think he really enjoyed a spirited argument, and I can certainly understand anyone's perspective if they say he went too far. Sometimes I think he went too far, but I accepted that as his personality. I don't think he was a troll ... I just think he was abrasive. That's just my take.

I just received an email from the aforementioned… he would love to keep in contact with many, mentioned Grahambo and Kunejua specifically and he says to never forget, Lacrosse is a sport for pussies… (That last part I may or may not have added for dramatic effect)…

:)

LAX, you're my boy blue!

Everybody has one of these types in their family and/or circle of friends. And if you don't see one who is, guess what? It's you.

One things for sure. He's gotten into a lot of peoples heads whether positive or negative. He's still the hot topic here and there are those still defending both sides of the argument. :banghead2
