Lol, they did not come back and "make it a game". Cignetti was absolutely terrified of making any real push to try and win that game. TERRIFIED. When the staff were satisfied they had absolutely dominated the first 95% of the game, they went into prevent/shell and then Cignetti got ultra aggressive to have the illusion of a tight game.

I never make outlandish claims after tightly contested/hard fought games. Georgia could've gone either way, PSU could've definitely gone the other way. The Indiana game was not that. Look at the stats when ND went into their shell defense, waiting for the game to end.

27-17. Indiana will take it. ND will take it.

ND played for the title. IU lost to the two teams that played in the final.

It was an amazing year.

Bielema going 10-3 in Year 4 could be a sign of things to come or a fluke. We'll know soon. It certainly feels like the program has an identity now more than ever before and some stability. If he continues to succeed, will he bolt for greener pastures? I think he's probably learned from his mistakes in the past and maybe he will settle in at Illinois. Expectations are not very high for football.

Bielema has an Iowa tattoo. Maybe he's just biding his time until Ferentz retires.

Yup. After it was clear that Indiana couldn't do a thing against our defense we definitely went conservative. We didn't even attempt a pass of more than like 10 yards until late, that's how confidant we were. Indiana didn't beat one ranked team last year, they only got into the playoffs because the schedule was very favorable.

The SEC may have cannibalized themselves last year but that was a fluke.
I am not so sure it was a fluke. The only "out there" wins were Vandy/Bama, Florida winning 2-3 more conference games than expected.

SEC still had 5 team in the Top 20. They believe the Lesser Conference Winner getting auto-bids screwed them of 1 more spot.

That's a fair point. I think if Bama was 10-2 and had beaten Vandy it wasn't even a debate as to who got in between Bama and IU.

Rewarding IU for playing a crap schedule and beating next to nobody didn't feel right initially, but hindsight is 20-20 and the SEC did nothing to further their argument with a poor showing in the playoff. Now IU Is doubling down with future schedules by avoiding anybody until conference play. Other teams do it, but most teams at least schedule 1 quality P4 opponent or a Boise St. (LSU vs. USC and Clemson, for example). To just avoid P4 altogether for multiple years is deplorable.

It's the same BS USC is doing. Trying to drop the ND series for the likes of SJSU, Fresno and Montana St. Bunch of B1G cowards.

Possibly.

My guess is when the day comes, that's an internal promotion.
Phil Parker was tabbed as the HC in waiting for a long time. At 62 years old that may no longer be the case, but it was the consensus among Iowa fans for a long time.

I'm not beating up on Indiana here. I think they were a worthy playoff team but they were overwhelmed by a better team. That happens, as we've all seen up close in the past.

Indiana did what they needed to do, boatrace inferior opponents and keep it competitive for a while against tOSU. Didn't IU lose most of their transfer players that came with Cignetti? Or did most of them have extra years remaining?

They had some turnover as they only return 9 starters, but they brought in a lot of transfers, especially on offense, including our old pal Holden Staes. They lost a lot of defense, including most of their front that was pretty good.

They added Fernando Mendoza from Cal who was pretty good to replace Rourke. Schedule is dogshit again outside of a few games (Illinois, @ Oregon & @ Ped State).

I was thinking Woods or Wallace at this point, mostly because of Parker's age, yes.

At one point they almost had a law school but could never get accreditation
My buddy/former teammate just shared that he’s being inducted into the Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in October.

I’ve been invited many times but never been back for alumni weekend. Think I’ll go this year to see Geise.

Didn't they basically bring everybody back but Carter?
And Warren. Their top two WRs also transferred but they may have upgraded at the position overall

They also lost their 2nd and 3rd best interior linemen. They are replacing Kobe King with a UNC Mike backer. And their top DB Jaylin Reed (2nd team Big10) left for the draft.

Coincidentally, all of their all Big 10 selections from 2024 are gone except 2nd team OG Ioane and 3rd team DB AJ Harris

media thinks penn state will win the big 10. I have no words
Their schedule does look very....manageable. I also have reservations because they lost 2 - top 15 picks in Darth Vader and Warren, their hyper athletic TE. To me, those two were always counted on to make game changing plays. Can they be better in the aggregate than their individual parts? Because I'm fairly certain they don't have two guys waiting in the wings to fill their shoes.

I could see them improving over last year with the addition of Knowles at DC, and supposedly they may have some WRs now. That said, Penn State hasn't won the B1G in almost a decade and I'm not convinced they'll get past Ohio State. I believe Big Game James has only gotten past Ohio State once, and it was that 2016 season Penn State won the B1G despite being a 3 loss team that probably wasn't quite as good as people thought (One game was a head scratcher against Pitt out of conference, and the 2nd was their bowl against an also overrated and mediocre USC).

But yeah, I have no confidence Big Game James wins it this year. They still have to prove they can win the big games, which they haven't.

The Big Ten is the bad guy in this sport now and I believe they have been for a few years at least. They will ruin this whole thing if they get their way.

Only thing helping college football at this point is that SEC and B1G don't see eye to eye and don't appear to want to make concessions to each other. My hope is that this gives us a few more years of this 12 team model that I think is pretty great. It feels like they've stumbled into a great postseason on accident and now want to screw with it through expansion before giving it a chance.

this guy is such a whiny lil bitch

What I took away from this is fans in Vegas aren't having him sign babies like he does back in B1G country.
So, Penn State fans regularly ask their coaches to sign their babies.
Ped State fans are weird...and so is Franklin, who is indeed a whiny lil bitch.
