Its not against the rules in football, that I know of, to leave the bench. Just basketball. Possibly thats only in the NFL.

I agree. Pretty sure there was a Miami football game where players left the bench and participated in a fight and the University then enacted a rule that players leaving the bench would be suspended. But that was just the school and nothing NCAA.

Edit: okay I see it. Offsetting penalties at worst. I have no problem with that not being flagged and it would be really disappointing if he were punished for it after the fact

The B1G Conference Office will likely review all of the tape tomorrow, and make some kind of decision on punishment(or not). Players not suspended by the team could still be suspended by the Commish's office. But it was a holiday weekend, you can't really expect them to be in on Saturday night and/or Sunday, to make some kind of judgement on this.

Players not suspended by the team could still be suspended by the Commish's office. I certainly don't expect them to have a decision by now. I'm not stupid and I'm very clear on how these things are dealt with.

What I was trying to say is that the other two guys and their fate has been discussed extensively by the media. If the QB of the #2 team did something really wrong then we would have heard about it.

If we've reached the point where a college kid giving the double bird and/or screaming obscenities to the crowd is just fine, then I don't know what to say. Self-discipline and some level of sportsmanship should still be expected in sports, particularly college sports, and I think even the professional leagues punish this sort of behavior. We get the kind of society we tolerate.

I know that I'd be embarrassed if one of our guys did this. And I'd bet everything I own Kelly would suspend him, thank God.

No problem with fight and standing up for your brother. I am calling OSU POSs like the coach because the classlessness of the birds to the crowd talking shit to some idiot fans. I think part of the problem with society and why shit like this, and worse, happen is because it's not nipped in the bud and is just passed off as no biggie. I know there is intensity in rivalry games, in my 15 yrs of playing the sport I experienced it and have been a couple lil scuffles but had enough respect for the programs I represented, myself and my family to not act like Hyde and Hall.

You're going to be suspending a lot a players then, man, Pushing and shoving and pulling happens. You flag or nothing. Suspensions are a big deal and should be left for major infractions like punching and kicking and such.

Btw, wasn't "old school" less sportsmanlike than it is now or am I just too young and only seeing the bad replays. I seem to recall a lot of games from the 80s that involve blatant late hits and extracurricular activities

That's a no-brainer fine in all professional sports, not because people are sensitive, but because it reflects poorly on the sport and the franchises.

Read my above post. It's not really the fighting that I have problem with, but there are repercussions for it. My beef is the classless acts of flipping the bird. I played oline pretty much my entire life so I have no problem of mixing it up for a teammate.

Kane I think you and I are on the same page for the most part, I just posted the tweet with Miller to try placate you, so you didn't think I was full of shit. My buddy forwarded me the tweets and I have not seen the pics anywhere else on the interweb.

And FWIW it's worth I'm only talking about Braxton. I absolutely agree that a double bird salute should bring about a suspension, and I said the same yesterday in a thread when it happened

Right and I agree, as my post below indicates. I responded to the post about Braxton and you responded about him so I thought that was the discussion. As far as I know he didn't throw any freedom rockets at the crowd

The "brawl" is not what is disgusting about this. Suffice it to say that this is the biggest rivalry in college football, and these types of little brawls happen almost every year between the two teams. I almost wish we were like this with USC (almost).

What is absurd is that Urban won't be disciplining the players himself after the fact/for MSU for flipping the bird. He is an ultimate scumbag. There is nothing more I want than O$U to get their shit kicked in this weekend.

I just think it would be all the more sweeter to let FSU take down king SEC themselves...Instead of shutting the SEC out by having a mediocre (by mediocre, I mean top 15) O$U team go undefeated, just let FSU stomp Auburn. It would more effectively shut them up.
