Weird response- i never came close to comparing your DC to Elko . Frankly i inow nithing about your DC; not even his name.

I basically said that Elko (and a LOT of other factors i listed) gives us possibility of making up whatever large gap there might be between your DBs and ours.

You really should go back and read my post carefully- your characterization of it is rather bizarre.
Thats kind of my point., you’re belief that somehow elkos coaching as a reason you can close the gap between your DBs and ours, while disregarding or having zero awareness that part of the reason there is a gap to begin with is Al Golden is every bit as good of a defensive coach as Elko if not better. Plus our DB coach is one of the best identifiers and developers of talent of talent out there. It was a really weird statement to start with.

I really don't know if A&M will be able to move the ball vs. Irish. I think we're pinning most our hopes on new OC Collin Klein, a healthy Weigman, and several returning starters. We also have a few on each side of the ball that were starters at other programs last year and transferred in.

One true freshman name that might be interesting to watch is Terrey Bussey. He is 5-star and the #1 rated Athlete in most recent class by all 3 services; they say he can play any skill position. last week we moved him to offense (presumably wide receiver?). I wouldn't think a true fresh in his 1st game against a Notre Dame will have an impact, but thought I'd throw his name out there in case you hear it.

This game is intriguing because I think we'll both have good defenses, and there are huge question marks on both our offenses. Still, I think we'll see a fair number of points scored (mid 20s by each). This might come down to the turnovers, as typical.

I DO think you'll see quite a few false starts due to the crowd and particularly the 12th Man (student section on East side). That is typical in big games. I put the o/u at 3 or 4, especially since you run a more pro-typical offense. The spread offenses with quick snaps seem to do a lot better as far as managing crowd noise- Mike Leach was a master at taming Kyle Field- he owned us.
Bussey is well known to Denbrock. He said something yesterday to the effect of trying to get Bussey at his last place of employment. He'll have to be accounted for every snap, sounds like.

On another note, was Owens the only scratch on the roster going into this week? That's very fortunate for them if that's it.

Knapp is 18 and Scourton (A&M DE) is 20. Your point is valid though

A few things Knapp has going for him vs most true frosh is he played really good competition in high school, and he has been a weight room junky for awhile, so very strong.
Scourton does have two seasons under his belt and was second team all Big Ten and is second team all SEC. That’s just a heavy burden for a true freshman. He’s going to likely need some help from the tight ends or backs. It is what it is.

no, besmirch away. i was just giving his stats. he's pretty reliable, but he's also prone to miss a critical 35-40 yarder that costs us a game.

No doubt Petrino is still scarred from that, as are all Aggies. We have a llong history of a great kicking game, but we are middling in our FGs now.

im not confident in our kicker bailing us out in a tight game. we'll see.
That’s what Karels reported. He’s solid w/in 40 yds but was shaky outside that IIRC.

Maybe he should’ve shown more discernment…LMAO!

We have the ND football Peacock show tomorrow, right? I'll probably just watch that a half dozen times while we wait for kickoff.

I've read everything I could, listened to podcasts and looked for any computer model picks I could find. Nothing left to do but play the game. I'm glad we have an Aggie here, to complement the rest of our SEC posters.

TxAg33, I hope you'll stick around for a while regardless of the outcome Saturday. If ND wins, you'll be jeered playfully until everyone's anxieties transfer to the next potential loss. If TAMU wins, maybe don't post for 24 hrs while people work it out of their systems but we're a mostly good crowd.

And if you stick around for a full year, we'll eventually circle back to the 2025 season where we'll square off in the Bend, and we'll have built up a better camaraderie by then.

The fan bases of Texas vs Texas A&M are night and day. I hold degrees from both. The difference in personalities, beliefs, behavior, is striking.

it's as clear as blue vs red. A&M is a tight-knit family that some describe as a cult. We have a saying "from the outside, you cant understand it; from the inside you cant explain it." but treating people well is a priority.

Now, don't take our Yells like "Beat the Hell Outta Notre Dame!" personally- these are 100+ yr old traditions you'll see. very iconic and "weird" I'm sure! :)

(and you'll hear a high pitched "Whoooooooop" incessantly before and during the game. That is the highest, proudest praise an Aggie will utter to anything approved of!

also if you hear "good bull" thats a complement. Like if an Ag sees you sporting your Irish colors to the max,
he might tell you that's "good bull!". it does NOT mean "bull shit"

if you hear "red-ass" that means hard-core Aggie. ot someone doing something iutstanding in an Old School way. We LOVE "old school"!

Sorry- one more big one i should mention:

"Howdy!" is the traditional way Ags should welcome guests and each other. yeah, sounds corny but it's Tradition.

The first football game I ever went to was in Houston in the mid 60s, Rice vs A&M. My dad was a Domer from Illinois but he was consulting with Standard Oil in Houston and so we were living in Rosenberg, Texas. A bunch of Aggies who worked with him in the oil patch invited us to go to Rice and see the game with them. Couldn't tell you anything about the game - who won, what I ate, what the weather was like....but I do remember a bunch of guys with crewcuts doing a cheer -- 'What comes out of a Chinaman's ass? RICE RICE RICE".

You got me curious, so I looked up the records. From '57 through '67 they played every year and everyone of those games was at Rice!

Here's how I see this going, if anyone cares:

All things being equal (i.e. both teams play "well" and to their abilities and nothing crazy happens) I like ND's Offense vs. A&M's Defense more than A&M's Offense vs. ND's Defense. Both defenses will be good, but ND's offense has more explosive skill players than A&M, meaning I expected 2-3 more explosive plays from ND than I do from A&M. So a clean game probably means a 17-13 type game.

What can/will change the game:
- Turnovers - low scoring games where points are a premium, whomever protects the ball best wins.
- Special Teams - Is there something crazy that happens here, i.e. a return, muffed punt, uncharacteristic missed field goals, etc.
- Hidden yardage - Penalties and net gains on punting kicking. Can ND flip the field with a big leg punter and limit penalties with a young OL in a hostile environment?

I think ND is a better team straight up. But, the better team doesn't always win, especially if that team turns the ball over.

No, they’re not going
Do they just not travel anymore? They weren't at the Clemson game last year either. I can see why you don't bring them for all road games, but the biggest games you'd think you want them there. Oh, well.

They'll probably travel for the Shamrock game. They never show up at USC. Maybe they'll do a bus trip to Purdue?

Band always travels to Shamrock Series game and Bowl game(s), and then may go to a close away game.

Last year they went to Ireland, so that definitely nuked their budget lol

This year, they’re going to Yankee Stadium. Heard they’re not going to Purdue, but not sure

Last true road game they went to was OSU ‘22

Sometimes other teams don’t allocate tickets for the band. Ohio State made the band pay for every seat and didn’t allow them to be in uniform or march on field, just a pep band.

ND always allows bands (except Rice + Stanford) to play at ND because we’re great people and it’s the other team’s super bowl

Thanks, I'll for sure be back for congrats if the Irish win, but no one wants to hear from a winning opponent even if respectful. (and even if more than 24 hrs later. ) We'll see. I almost forgot we play next year!!!

I think ND and TAMU may well be fighting for one of those last playoff spots regardless of the outcome this weekend. All I know is we owe you for stealing our spot in Covid 2020 when we went 9-1 against an all-SEC schedule. No, let's not go down that road! :)

Why are rice and Stanford not permitted. Stanford have that clown act band don’t they?
