got it thx.

so in our little corner of TWD world, we now have:

Negan and his "Survivors"

and

Ezekiel and his "Kingdom"?

with

Rick et al as subjects in the former and Carol/Morgan in the latter (and happy to be there? at least for now?)

Correct

I'm guessing we'll see Rick towing the line, and Morgan/Carol establishing the narrative in the Kingdom for 3-4 more episodes. Then we'll see them Morgan/Carol go back to try and find Rick's group. Then it will start to get real again. I doubt everything will be peaches and cream in the Kingdom, but it will end up being Negan vs Kingdom stuff towards the end of the season. JDM is probably going to be around for more than a few seasons. Tempted to start reading the comics.

IIRC, Negan was taunting Rick about killing his right hand man. I think Negan believed Abe was his right hand. Maybe that was symbolic in more than one way?

In the comics Glenn died and Ricks right hand is physically cut off. In the TV show Glenn dies and Negan removes Rick's metaphorical right hand ( at least Negan thinks Abe was his right hand)

and in the RV they were really taunting us with that hatchet. Since he cuts off his hand in the comics it kept me on the edge if they would go through with it.

Once the RV was done i thought it was behind us, then Negan pulls Carl down to have his arm cut off but then Rick says to take his. So i thought here we go again, this time it's gonna happen.

Luckily not. Don't want him to turn into Merle.

I think we will see some B-level community characters get killed off but i think all the main characters will survive this season (...the rest of them)

Loved him in Magic City where he was a good guy. Doing even better as a villain. Was hard for me to picture him as a bad guy before he was introduced, but wow.

Guys let's cool it with the comic book spoilers. At least include some kind of spoiler tag. What you are referring to with Rick may still happen on the show. They have teased us before about something in the comics happening then made us believe it wasn't going to happen before it did. See: last week's episode.

yup, was thinking the same thing. Do we have a TWD comic, or TWD spoiler thread?
all this is making want to start reading the comics, but I don't want to ruin it for myself either.

I vote Negan for our pre-game pep talk vs Miami--him and Lucille will get the boys focused and thinking right.

...not if he takes out Kizer and Morgan to prove his point

Maybe he'll drag BVG out of a van and bash him to pump everyone up.

so is this SIMON (the guy who doesn't know the difference between a pen and a marker) Negans' right hand man?

will be satisfying when he gets his...

Yeah, Simon appears to be Negan's #2

IIRC, Negan was taunting Rick about killing his right hand man. I think Negan believed Abe was his right hand. Maybe that was symbolic in more than one way?

In the comics Glenn died and Ricks right hand is physically cut off. In the TV show Glenn dies and Negan removes Rick's metaphorical right hand ( at least Negan thinks Abe was his right hand)

I think you have this wrong. Negan doesn't cut Rick's hand off, that actually happened with the Governor in the comic. Maybe they make it happen now with Negan doing it instead, but I thought I remember the show creators being annoyed at how long they had to carry on with Hershel's missing leg and digitally removing it from film/blue screen effects. Not sure they'd want to go that route again given how much screen time Rick gets.

That said, maybe you're onto something with the whole Abe thing. Abe was supposed to die the way Denise died, but she took the arrow instead and Abe lived on borrowed time for a few episodes. Abe was actually rather close to Rick in the comics if I recall, closer than they were on the show. I want to say Abe took Daryl's place when they met the Claimers and spent quite a bit of time with him. Given that Daryl is more like Rick's #2 and he only exists in the show, Abe has kind of taken a more minor role on film.

Correct

If you're interested you can typically find the comics in a variety of places online without paying a penny. I actually viewed dozens of them on Youtube awhile back. Some websites have uploaded the early ones as well. Later issues usually require some form of torrent to download them, not that I can condone that....and you'd want to be careful what you download there.

This episode has really stuck with me today. I really felt the anxiety during the whole episode. The futility of the group's situation on their knees was palpable. Abe's response was epic and Glenn's death was on of the most heart wrenching I have ever seen in any movie or TV show.

I loved how Negan's whole approach was about getting Rick to capitulate and it was tough to watch him break Rick down. I could really see the emotion on his face when Rick decided he was actually going to cut Carl's arm off to save the others.

All around amazing episode. Really took the emotion to another level. I think Rick and the group are going to bide their time and do a little rope-a-dope. They will wait for their opening and Rick will pretend to bow down to Negan before making their move.

I am very curious what is going to happen with Daryl this season. I can't imagine a scenario where he is just released back to Rick's group. Maybe he escapes and goes to the Kingdom? As far as we know the Kingdom has not been taken over by the Saviors so this could work from a plot perspective...

I imagine he's going to be off camera all season, filming that other show he's doing in reality, and then like a WWE return some music plays, he rides in on his bike and clears the entire Savior stronghold solo...possibly with a folding chair.

Yep that's right. The Gov did do that. IDK why I typed that. Lol. Not thinking.

That Glen scene was just so disturbing. I can't believe the writers had the balls to do that given that Abe was probably enough for the scene.

It was awesome...and necessary.

When Negan was talking to Glenn and making fun of his eye, it showed just how sick and how far Negan will go.

Also, they really needed to make sure we all hated Negan. Over the top brutality will do that...especially to a beloved character.

But all it did was make me like him more. LOL

Great scene. Only wish that Carl got the axe.

I don't get the love for Glenn. The dude was a cornball. They were the exact two I thought would go.

I agree with Broker. You can't halfass an entrance with a character like Negan. They had to make a powerful statement, and I don't think they could have done a better job. Killing just Abraham wasn't enough. Abraham was kinda funny and badass at times, but he didn't really connect with the audience and have the history that Glen had. Glen was basically the longest running character left on show next to Rick, unless you count Coral in flashbacks before Rick wound up in the hospital. He was there from the beginning when Rick was stuck in the tank.

It goes beyond Glen's longevity though. It was a continuation of sorts....it started with Dale. Dale was like a father figure to the group, and he passed a lot of things onto Glen. In turn, Hershel took Glen under his wing, making Hershel the moral compass of the show and helping mold Glen further. When he died, Glen had basically completed his transition to manhood and taking the best traits of both role models, they lived on through him. Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into that, but essentially that's what made Glen an important piece of the group. A lot of thought went into his demise, and emotionally his death probably takes more out of the group than anyone else dying aside from maybe Rick.

Personally I wasn't a big Glen fan myself, and I honestly disliked the teases they did with his death last season (And then the subsequent way they drug out the results). I get why it was done though, and it makes sense. At least they made good on Negan crushing him. If this was professional wrestling, taking a guy like Glen out is the best way for a heel to pull heat (For the reasons I stated above). In the end, it had to be Glen to die for Negan to become Negan.

Great take.

And to add to the Abe comment...Abe was a cool character, but I never really felt like he was a "main" character. He's like a side mission in a video game, cool to complete...but not really necessary to move the story forward.

Now Glen? I never liked him, he was a cheesdick and he and Maggie annoyed me. BUT, he was a beloved character who, like you said, was around since the beginning. Longevity counts in stories like this, especially stories of survival.

Some things that I have been unable to reconcile yet is to how the group will place blame for choosing to confront the Saviors. It all started with Alexandria needing supplies and coming across the Hilltop. Both Rick and Maggie jumped fairly quickly into taking out Negan after the Hilltop leader was stabbed. Rick convinced the group and Maggie finalized the deal with the Hilltop Leader (very forcefully I might add). IIRC there was not much pushback from the group at all as they believed in Rick. All in all it was not thought out and they went into it completely blind. So much so that the initial assault on the facility was based on very limited intel and they ended up thinking (but not knowing) that they killed Negan. They did not even know what he looked like lol. They also basically killed every Survior they encountered up until the time Negan showed himself.

So I guess what I am getting at is that a bunch of people want to blame Daryl for Glenn getting killed, but in reality it was Rick's poor leadership and and Maggie's deal that lead them down that pass of taking on Negan. In the end it was the three senior group members that ultimately led to Glenn's death.

I agree. I've always wondered what the tipping point is with that group and why they keep allowing that moron to lead them.

Of course, based on what we know about Negan, he would've found Alexandria anyway and the confrontation would've happened regardless.
