Anyone more optimistic with new offers going out?

I know there was a lot of "WHY DON'T WE LEAD FOR ANYBODY???" going around to varying degrees of frustration/panic. Looking at new offers being passed out, with even more likely to come this spring/summer, you have to think it was because the staff was originally targeting a very small class and being quite picky. By my estimation, it looks like we could get to upwards of 23 recruits now when all is said and done.

Dallis Todd is a great prospect and we should have a good shot with him. Would like to think we could get one of him or Andrews if not both.

Quenton Nelson seems like a pretty darn elite/versatile OL prospect. #8 OT on Scout, #66 overall on Rivals, composite #107/#9 OT. Hope he gets an offer.

Christian McAffery is a blend of Paul Hornung, Wes Welker, and Peyton Hillis. And we have Starks visiting soon too.

We seem to be in solid position with Alex Bars/Mustipher, too.

And with how crappy QBs are in this class, Kyle Allen seems pretty solid and would be a good offer. And Beneventi seems like a darn near lock for '15 if we want him (and judging by the early offer, it seems like we do).

So things seem to be looking up. If there is one position of concern still, it has to be LB. Not a lot of movement on that front, but I bet you will see some new offers go out sooner rather than later.

Would love to get an elite WR soon. Looks like the staff will now be taking 4 and w Brent already in the fold it leaves 3 available spots. Holmes seems determined to get 1 of them by making his 3rd trip to campus. Would hate to miss out on either Andrews or Harris, but the position group may fill up before both are ready to pop. And yes, the new offers seem to be breathing some new life into the recruiting season (at least on here).

I said it before and I'll say it again...was never worried in the first place. 2 main reasons:

1. It was March and people were freaking out...ELEVEN months from NSD. Made no sense to me. Every year we have ups and downs in recruiting, and every year people forget that and flip out when we have some down news. All part of the process. If this was program lead by a dude named Ty, I'd understand, but...

2. This staff has proven that they can recruit. Once BK realized that he needed to take a more hands-on approach to recruiting, and we added Heistand, it's been lights out on the recruiting trail. Not long enough of a pattern to call us elite, but I'm very confident in this group of coaches as recruiters.

I get that people were/are concerned, but the level of concern for some was over-the-top IMO, considering the time of year. It's too early, and besides that, a ton of guys committed now are going to decommit later in the process. Just ask Eddie V, Max Redfield, Greenberry, Darby, etc etc etc...

Recruiting 101

It's a marathon not a sprint
.

"I KNOW that," replied the recruitnik, "BUT did you see his time for the first 40 yards?"

There's a great joke in there somewhere about the importance of 10-yards splits for OL, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Maybe some folks here were forgetting that our rapid loading up last year was a pretty big anomaly for these last few years. My memory of the "pace" of verbals last year was: "what the heck is going on? We might be full before the season's barely underway".

This year we're back to a more normal pace. We're not Texas. We're not as slow as Oregon, Oklahoma, or VT are typically either, but even Alabama is usually more methodical about the speed at which they let guys in the door.

And, this year, numbers count or not, I think that Kelly is thinking: "You know, we're GOOD; and not only that, basically everyone now knows that we're good. I think that we can be REAL methodical about how fast we go this time".

Frankly, I think that our current number is probably equal or greater than the numbers for the years preceding last year prior to the spring game.

The funny part was that people were so high before because "we lead with so many elite recruits" said in early February not too long after NSD 2013.

Then things go quiet, some people don't pop yet, others pop for other places, there is mish-mash news on current hopefuls we have our eye on, and a general lack of news period...next thing you know, there's a suicide watch on the recruitnik ward and people sounding like NDNation lifers.

As BGIF put up....marathon, not sprint...

Here's my predictions:
1) We will pick up more verbal commitments
2) We will lose out on some guys we thought were locks
3) At some point we might lose a kid who had previously verballed
4) We will offer someone we haven't yet and people will get excited
5) Some big time recruit will get very interested in us...to no end
6) Some big time recruit will get very interested in us...and verbal to us
7) Recruitniks will alternately whine and cheer throught the cycle
8) Come NSD 2014 we will like/love our 2014 Golden Army guys
9) ND Nation board will complain about who we didn't get and call for BK's firing

Good stuff OMM, and you are correct. By the 2011 spring game (2012 class), there were 3 verbals - Daly, Baratti, and Tee. By the 2010 spring game there were 2 or 3 (not knowing what the date of the game was, so doing my best guess in that it was around 4/20). By the 2009 game there were only 2.
