I just wonder who started the initial rumor, because it seems like since then, one poster on a site has cited a poster on another site in a circle of non-substance that is spiraling into nonsense.

In any event, I don't need a surprise - I am supremely happy with the class we have if they all sign next week. How about this for a fact: ND has 6 commits in the Rivals 100, the entire Big Ten has 9.

Best post on this entire thread. Though I am partial for NDinLA bashing those who think Ray Drew is leaving the southeast after all this time (and no visit from Diaco!).

Recruiting in January - "it's the most wonderful time of the year" (except that it usually sucks for ND fans)

The new ND has arrived, anything can happen. I already forgot about Navy and Tulsa. Clowney may come here, who knows, without even seeing his highlights, I love him for his name alone!

Check the highlights out. He has no business being as big/strong/fast as he is. Guy will be a stud from the start.

Quite simply, Ray Drew is NOT coming. Can't believe anybody who follows recruiting would even think about him announcing for ND. Ain't gonna happen - and not even close. I wouldn't doubt that we aren't even in his top 10-15.

To be fair, it is Ray Drew who literally wrote that it is not going to be UGA, Auburn, or LSU-- the three schools he has favored. Instead, he stated that he is going to "shock the world." If you follow his recruiting, he has everyone's head spinning in circles at this point. Maybe he is just playing with people, but how would we know that? So you combine what he said with our little rumor and his friendship with some of our recruits you have an entertaining scenario.

People aren't saying "we have a decent shot at Ray Drew based on his actions," they are saying, "Maybe he is coming to ND, because that sure would be really shocking, and crazier things have happened."

I'm going to go against my better judgment and add to the (unfounded) rumor wheel: my prediction (read: hope) is that we land not only Huggins, but he also convinces his buddy Shuler to come with him. If it happens- remember where you heard it first! If it doesn't- well, my theory is about as fact-based as the OP's...

The big surprise is that Diaco has found that he has another year of eligibility and will play as a walk-on next to Manti.

My surprise will be holding on to all these kids we have.

^^^+1000^^^

Anything and everything is going through these kids' minds right now. Let's hope Diaco and Kelly have their hands on the pulse of these kids to make sure that pen is full of ink come signing day....

Like I said on his thread, he's just playing you guys for fools. He has another little thing on facebook where he says he's going to Stanford.

He's never visited, he never will visit, he's never even mentioned ND in any interviews other than ones he does with ND sites, he's pretty much married to the South, etc etc etc. He's not coming, and any SEC fan reading this thread would be laughing at us right now, and rightfully so. Thinking that Ray Drew is coming to ND is like USC people thinking Aaron Lynch is going to SC (and writing about it on a message board.) It ain't happening.

could you imagine a defense with drew, tuitt, lynch, williams, shembo, calabrese, nix, teo, gray, smith, slaughter, blanton, klm, ej, cywnar, councell, rabasa, fleming, etc.

i don't want to leave anyone out but my hands are getting tired.

that defense could quite possibly be the greatest ever put together, in ncaa history. not kidding.

Hearing Clowney on here is just hilarious. And I doubt Drew is coming, seeing how he's never been here and doesn't plan to visit.

Come on, guys.

I think it will be Huggins or another guy like Schuler that previously visited ND. And just holding on to our current class will be a chore in itself. Lets take care of that first.

I'd say the day I heard Lynch was visiting was the biggest surprise of the recruiting season. Take that FSU!! (Still sour about Booker nearly 8 years later!!)

Come on. Our defense isn't going to transform into the greatest defense ever through one recruiting class. I think everyone is overestimating a little bit how good this defense is going to be in the next couple of years. We still have long way to go to catch up to the defenses that Florida, Texas, Alabama, and LSU field on a yearly basis. This recruiting class is hardly one of the top defensive recruiting classes ever, and not even the best defensive class this year. For comparison look at Alabama. They're bringing in 9 five or four star players on defense this year, whereas we have 5. And in the past four years they've brought in 36 5 or 4 star players on D, whereas we've brought in 23 (this was only the third year we've brought in a 5 star on defense since rivals started ranking high school players, and the first year we've brought in multiple 5 stars). I understand the excitement for this class, but our defense isn't going to be great until we start continually bringing in 7 or 8 four or five star guys on defense every year.

why you gotta pee on my parade!?

haha you're probably right, but with they way the d played near the end of the season, and with most of those guys coming back, it just gets me excited to see what the d will look like once you add this class coming in, i mean who do you bench? whats the rotation gonna look like? it all adds up to an exciting next few years.

Who thought a year ago that we'd be in this kind of shape on the D side of the ball? Nobody. Add the recruiting class (who most thought BK couldn't pull in) and we are a year ahead of where I thought we'd be.

We have a good chance to add Troy but I think that we're done otherwise, maybe Fisher from Michigan but not likely. Sign up the class and walk away from the 2011 table and move on to 2012. Its gonna be a comfortable chair.

Go Irish.

bottom line is success recruits successful players regardless of who you are...look at tcu and stanford. if you're good players will want to play for you and if we continue to improve that will continue to be the case.

the defensive transformation already started . This recruiting class specifically adds depth and talent to the defesive side of the ball which ND has not seen alot of in the last....well, in quite some time. Its the not the best class ever, or the best defensive class ever, but it does address some long time needs for this program. In terms of addressing weaknesses specific to this team, this recruiting class in phenomenal (we got the players we NEED, oh and by the way, they just happen to BEAST). If this recruit class was for another university it may not be all that big of a deal at all, but for Notre Dame in 2011, its huge.

I agree the DL has always been our weak point in recruiting and the impact of this class will be huge! Here is an interesting stat: Since, 2003 ND has signed (1) 5-star defensive line recruit (Ethan Johnson). This year we have (3). I remember how excited we all were back in 2003 when we signed Abiamiri and Laws (both 4 stars). I think this year could be the beginning of a GREAT defense. Good LB's need a GREAT DL to keep OL off of them. If I was a MLB coming out of HS and saw the DL ND was building I would be first in line to go to ND!!!

The only thing the class missed is a stud RB. Cam McDaniel could be good, but not a workhorse RB and perhaps he goes to the slot anyway.
