So many different possibilities for thism
Obviously it was planned more than a day or two in advance.

I have a lot of respect for how this particular piece of the story was handled by all parties. The police received tips and posted a picture of Mr. Hughes as a person of interest. Seeing the picture and knowing he was innocent, Mr. Hughes turned himself in to police custody. After questioning him and realizing they had the wrong guy in a very chaotic situation, he was released.

He's no victim. He's getting exactly what he wanted when he strapped that rifle to his shoulder.I feel for the guy. I understand it was a chaotic situation, but his face is still being plastered on Social Media.
So it's cool in Texas for people to just walk around with a rifle? Is that a thing that is common to see in Texas?
I'll bet dollars to donuts that this was a 2nd amendment group get together. They happen here in PA as well and they pull the same thing with their guns.Open carry. Guess it's pretty common in Texas to walk around with rifles.

Very well could have been. Also saw someone on Twitter saying that it's completely normal for people to be seen carrying guns in Dallas
Carrying pistols sure, many people do mostly CC. But to have an Ak and a pistol grip shotgun slung across your back at a fast food place is screaming look at me for a reason.
"3 Dallas Cops killed, 7 wounded. This is now war. Watch out Obama. Watch out black lives matter punks. Real America is coming after you," tweeted Walsh, a former tea party congressman from Illinois and now a conservative talk radio host.
Maybe I'm just a yuppie product of the Northeast, but I think it's insane and somewhat comical that anyone would choose to do that. What a gun crazy country we live in.
Yeah those kinds of meet ups are quite common. Here's the tweet I was referring to
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">A) it was not loaded. B) this is an open carry state, I've seen an AR-15 while trying to get some lunch. <a href="https://t.co/4dH2wOtjmM">https://t.co/4dH2wOtjmM</a></p>— Ms. Lee (@LyndsayALee) <a href="https://twitter.com/LyndsayALee/status/751270007527530496">July 8, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
To clarify, I agree with what you are saying. Just saw this and they make it sound like it's a pretty common occurrence.
You're from PA. We have an open carry law as well. I've seen guys walking in town with a rifle on their back.
Then again, they are usually clad in camo/orange and it's Deer Season.

I see at least one a month scheduled on a firearm forum I'm a member at and that's just PA. Other states obviously have their own forums.
Personally I don't have a problem with OC, but I think OC of a rifle or shotgun is effing stupid.
Plus that AK does have a mag inserted so we can't say for sure it's unloaded and that shotgun has an internal mag.
Oh and it's TX lets face it they are a little off down there.

Technically there is no law on OC in PA. Unless you're in Philly. Then you just need a LTCF for it.
But the Philly cops have and will make your life hell.

Cmon, man --- you know deer season doesn't count.
I've never seen an open carrier before in Philly.
