Once we get the "winning percentage" lead again, we need to put a lot of air between us and UM. I don't ever want them leading us in that category again. With Charlie at the helm for the next 10 years, we should be able to put some distance between ND and UM. As long as Carr stays there, we will pull away on the percentage thing. Sad thing is that after the Bowl game last night, LLLLLoyd is really taking a lot of heat!! If he does come back next year, I believe that will be his last "hurrah". Too bad. I just love beating that guy and then listening to him whine the next 12 months.

We were getting close to overtaking them under Holtz. I remember an article regarding that when Holtz resigned my freshman year. Also a good indicator of how bad the past 8 seasons were.

The next line is the worst (UM) and best (ND) projections for the '12 Season to help ND regain the All-Time Winningest Percentage Title.

IF UM lost their '12 bowl and ND ran the table (USC and NCG), an 8-5 UM would still lead a 13-0 ND by .000178 or a 1/2 game.




* The ND 2012 Football Media Guide, page 156, lists ND's All-Time Record through 2011 as 853 Wins, 300 Loses, 42 Ties.

IF you check with College Data Warehouse they list 853, 301, 41 AND they have the Lose/Tie Error WRONG for years.

As of 1/14/13
UM 903+18(ties count as a ½ win) =921 /1253=.7350
ND 865+21(ties count as a ½ win) =886/1208=.7334

If ND and Mich both win their first games of the 2014 season
UM 904+18=922/1254=.7352
ND 866+21=887/1209=.7336

If ND wins against Mich
UM 904+18=922/1255=.7346
ND 867+21=888/1210=.7338

if UM win.........well I'm not posting that sh!t.


The way it is looking is Mich will need to have at least 2-3 more losses than ND in the 2014season before we can take back the winning %.

The University of Michigan has won more football games than any other program in American. They have the (2nd) highest won-loss percentage in the nation as well. That always bothered me (to hear about it constantly) and always wondered who the heck they were playing since they started at least nine years before any of the other 19 schools in the top twenty list! So a friend of mine did a little research and here's who they have padded their win list with:

Additionally, they have single wins (with no losses) against the following collegiate powerhouses: Adelbert, Adrian College, American Medical, Butler, Camp Grant, Carlisle, Carroll, Denison, Detroit Industrial, Ferris State, Grand Rapids, Harvard Club of Chicago, Kenyon, Lawrence, Lehigh, Peninsulars, Quantico Marines, Racine, Stevens Institute, Wabash, and my personal favorite. . . Ann Arbor High School!! I don't know how many of these particular "opponets" can be found on the historical records of Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, et al. . . but since most of those schools started playing college football at least NINE years later than U of M. . . I would have to assume that there were a few more quality teams to choose from when they started scheduling their games.

Now I understand that every program, particularly those who date back to the early 1900's, have their share of 'cupcakes' to report. However, when you add up the record of just these teams in their history. . .it becomes 128-1-3 !!

That'll beef up your winning percentage won't it? I think the NCAA should go back and reconcile Division I records to reflect wins and losses against Division I teams only, and toss out the high schools, club teams, Division II and III opponents, factory and sports club teams, and then see who comes out on top. Exhibition games shouldn't count, and for sure. . high schools shouldn't count!

So I don't think it's a fair criticism of Michigan unless you want to criticize ND for the same thing. ND also played high schools and even the Illinois Cycling Club.

This is a fair point, as is Classic Irish's, but I'd also note that some of those teams (that both teams beat way-back-when may not have been as bad as it seems now (well, yes, including the high school team the Wolverines beat is utterly shameless). I mean I certainly don't know offhand, but if I had time, it would be fun to look up the teams they (and we) beat in those years and see how good they were. Just saying that, because Fordham is bad now (to use a general example), doesn't mean they weren't a national powerhouse in the 1930s (they were, of course).

But it's all interesting. Here's hoping we can pad the % lead this season before Michigan wises up and dumps Hoke.

WHo cares who has more wins? They Started 19 years before most... end game. That is why winning percentage is biggest. Especially after so many games.

You are right. Like the year ND scheduled Indianapolis Light Artillery and lost 18-0...they never scheduled them again! Winning % matters most!

I had just read his posy and was going to say the same thing......ND played it's fair share of clubs, small colleges, etc....especially when they were trying to find somebody to play. On top of that, back on the day, both ND, and Michigan would, from time to time play people who, by today's standards would not have been otherwise eligible.
