All the talk about Michigan going to have their best recruiting class in years & ND’s isn’t good…

Michigan with 21 commits is at 259
ND with 19 commits at 249

If you go to the class calculator and add 2 more to get to 21 also, so Tae Johnson, because he is committing to ND next week, and Lambert, because I think he will choose ND end of this month…

ND will be at 262 with 21 commits.

262 with 21 is better than 259 with 21, isn’t it?

So Michigan’s recruiting a great class & ND’s is mediocre?
I think we had another safety in the next two weeks as well whether that be ziglar or the 3 star from Ohio

It looks like the DE Mayo, from Good Counsel, who was also a “silent” to Michigan is trending away too.
Damn. Where's Mayo leaning?
Id love Freeman and Washington to circle back on that one with Rushing not happening.

Most of the big time ball players at those schools are there because they were recruited, not because they're religious. Being recruited by one of those preps is the high school equivalent of being recruited by the giant football factories, not ND.

Agree - I went to a school in Philly’s Catholic league and the kids that are recruited are typically not from the most well-off households and didn’t grow up Catholic. Makes sense that “who can get me to the league / paid” is the only thing they care about. Only so many Angeli’s / Peter Jones’ out there.

It just keeps getting better…

EJ Holland just said he’s not feeling good about Deyvid Palepale. A kid who had 100% CBs for Michigan & another “silent.”

Then EJ said he is hearing OSU feels confident again in Elias Rudolph, a kid that had received a bunch of CBs to Michigan the past week & another possible “silent.”

So they thought they had 4-5 silents from last weekend, and as of right now 5 players either committed elsewhere or are trending away;
Chiles, Carter, Mayo, Palepale, Rudolph

LOL

Would venture to guess that less than 5% of ND football's scholarship roster is Catholic

Not so much about being Catholic but they are relatively good academic schools, yes? These kids do have a decent educational background and you’d think for some - or at least their parents - the 40-year decision would be a factor in our (and, yuck, Michigan’s) favor.

ND’s 2018 & 2020 playoff teams were littered with 3 Stars that ND developed.
This.

Especially on defense, ND had guys like Julian Love, Jalen Elliott, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Kurt Hinish, Ade Ogundeji who become high level starters during playoff runs. You also had guys like Tranquill, Coney, Okwara who were on the 3/4 star fringe. Pride IIRC was a guy who was really low rated and then shot up late in the cycle.

Big thing for me is that ND has to hit their numbers. 2016 is a prime example of what happens when you do that. ND loaded up on DL bodies in 2016 and that allowed them to go on major playoff runs in '18 and '20.

But the last few years, Kelly had noticeable holes in the classes. WR obviously. But I also think the DL and LB classes left a lot to be desired.

Namely DL didn't really hit numbers that well, and they focused way too much on smaller/quick guys instead of bigger athletes. Not everybody is going to be Kurt Hinish and be able to dominate at 6'1 290. LB too. As much as I liked Clark Lea, him and Kelly dropped the ball in LB recruiting. I still cannot fathom why they chose to take ZERO LB's in 2020.

This is why I questioned ND cooling off on Williams at the edge after Loghan Thomas committed. Yes, that’s a great get but ND historically does not recruit the position well AND Thomas has to be a hit now.

I wouldn't say Thomas HAS to be a hit, because you also have Cole Mullins, and it's also very possible that if they get a guy like KVA, which is looking like a possibility, he could grow into a Vyper similar to Junior and Burnham. Dude is already 6'3 230, so very real chance he grows into an end.

EJ going hard after that Pulitzer
I love how every year he asks where is the threat, then Michigan finishes outside the top 10…so there are threats everywhere, EJ.
OSU, ND & PSU all three have been outrecruiting Michigan recently. So he picks on MSU.
I’ve never seen anyone in that business just look to start shit more than him?
Seriously, for no reason he will just go at ND, Loy, MSU, even other Michigan reporters like Webb.

I did some quick math, and if Lambert commits to ND:

On3
Currently they are using the top 12 commits per team since that’s the average nationally.

ND is at 91.486
With Knapp as the 12th

If ND lands Lambert, you replace Knapp with his score.

ND would be at 91.921
UM is at 91.719

So even on On3’s weird scale ND jumps UM.

247
They use every player, so the more commits the higher the score.

If ND gets Lambert;

ND with 22 commits
263.45

UM with 24 commits
263.28

So with 2 less commits, ND jumps UM.

But yeah, Michigan is killing with with no threats, ND is mediocre…

Suck it EJ

Edit:

Just did Rivals;
Rivals counts top 20 players.
ND has 21, so currently there are two 5.6 commits, but only one counts towards the score. His points are 75.
If ND gets Lambert, you remove that second 5.6, his 75 points, & add Lamberts points.

Adding Lambert:

Get 120 points for 5.9 rating
Get 40 bonus points for 62nd ranked
So 160 total points

ND current score is 2313 without Lambert

2313 - 75 + 160 = 2398

ND 2398
UM 2359

ND jumps Michigan

Michigan certainly seems “in it” for a lot of elite recruits this cycle, but their hit rate seems to be pretty damn low. Targeting kids that typically end of at SEC powerhouses is almost always a waste of time unless you’re OSU.

Harbaugh suspended 4 games? Dang and against an absolutely brutal OOC stretch of ECU, UNLV, Bowling Green, and then starting off B1G play with Rutgers. Hard to see how they'll manage.

they have home and aways versus Texas and Oklahoma in the next four years but yeah lately their scheduling has been a joke
