A good Michigan that competes hard for the limited quantity of elite Midwest recruits can never be a good thing for us. You should hope they go 0-12 every year.

My great conflict is that I feel the same way you do, only I'm not sure if I hate scUM or the SEC more.

Too much Hate in the world today.. Michigan sucks but they sure do make CFB better when they're good.

My buddy works for big transportation company at Detroit airport (will remain nameless). Told me this morning that Harbaugh's rep called to schedule transportation from the airport to Ann Arbor on December 30th for a press conference.

I'm surprised they would say it's for a press conference and not just needing a ride in general.

From Adam Schefter-
49ers HC Jim Harbaugh’s family and friends have been encouraging him to take the Michigan HC job, but he is torn because his heart is in the NFL, per sources close to the situation.
Harbaugh first would like to see what head coaching opportunities come available – and he is likely to be a top choice for a handful of teams – before getting back to Michigan with an answer, per sources.

Harbaugh also is aware of the fact that Michigan might not be able to wait for him, especially when it might not even land the coach who is believed to be the school’s top choice. Plus, college football recruiting is in full swing, and the longer a school waits, the more of a disadvantage it can be. It leaves both sides, Michigan and Harbaugh, in a tough and delicate spot, even though they have mutual interest in each other, per sources.
Harbaugh would like to finish coaching this season, go through the players’ getaway day on Monday, Dec. 29, and then make his decision as quickly as possible. As another source said, Harbaugh’s agent, Dave Dunn, already “has a good sense of realistic NFL options already.”

But as one Michigan source wondered Friday, “If he wants to stay in the NFL, who will pay him $8 million per year?”, an indication that Michigan is prepared to go hard after Harbaugh.

There is an undisputed emotional connection for Harbaugh, who played at Michigan, is an iconic figure there, and has been hearing from family and friends about returning as the prodigal son. Harbaugh’s father, Jack, is influential with his son and he has made it known that he likes and admires Michigan’s interim athletic director, Jim Hackett, whom he got to know in the mid 1970s, when he was coaching the defensive backs at Michigan while Hackett was playing center at the school.

Harbaugh’s wife also is said to be open and on board to him going back to Ann Arbor if that’s what he wants, per sources.
While some have pointed out that recruiting would be a challenge, it is one that does not concern Harbaugh, per sources. Harbaugh believes he has successfully recruited before and he would do so again if he returned to college.

But his family and friends have voiced their opinions to Harbaugh, and made it known that it would be an ideal match. Now, likely by the end of the month, Harbaugh must make the decision that will shape his professional and personal life for years to come.

Who in the NFL will pay him $8-$10mill a year? Lets see. Raiders, Dolphins, Bears (Maybe, I hear their owners are cheap), Jets, Giants, Falcons, Panthers, Saints.

You watch the Brinks trucks roll into 123 PaloAlto Place and dump literal bags of money at Harbaughs door. There is going to be a run on money at the local banks, they'll have to import it from China just to have enough real cash.

Terms of NFL contracts don't apply to college and vice versa. The only term that can is a buyout for early termination. Some buyouts go one way, others go both ways. It's assumed that whatever the buyout is on the remaining year of his contract for him leaving early would be negligible (or negotiated into) the truckload of money he'd get from Michigan... and therefor irrelevant.

He can leave for Michigan whenever without their permission. There are no non-competes or non-contact terms as would apply in the NFL. If he left for Michigan, the compensation owed would be whatever the early termination buyout is on his current contract.

I just don't think that's true. From what I'm hearing on the radio and what Schefter reported his contract forbids him from coaching pro or college without the 49'ers blessing. If they agree to let him go then they get compensated.

Now that UM no longer plays us I hope they snag Harbaugh and roll Urban and then take Saban to the woodshed. I'm all about Northern Pride and will cheer Northern teams to beat SEC etc all day long.

I would enjoy seeing Jimmy take Urban out behind the woodshed.

This is just flat out false. No other way to put it. Anyone reporting that is wrong.

Yes, if he quits -- versus getting fired -- there is a buyout clause. Buyouts are usually re-negotiated once someone actually pulls the trigger.

But with the NFL, there are actual barriers to him leaving for another job such as contact/tampering restrictions in league bylaws and possibly enforceable non-competes.

His rep said meeting and then later said conference, so the assumption is that it's a press conference.

This is good scoop, but it also doesn't make much sense in that I can't envision UM not providing private transportation for something like that. Maybe I'm just confused on the situation.

Former NFLer Marcellus Wiley is saying that Jim Harbaugh will be named the HC for scUM for 2015. NO...he's not a journalist & has admitted as much. He simply said he had two credible sources that were unrelated. One is a friend who is a scUM alum. The other is a consultant w/ a search firm involved in the hiring. TIFWIW, but he's said that's what he was told and thinks it'll happen. Yes, I realize he is NOT a journalist...just an analyst/on-air personality for Espn.

Man... really seems like this more likely than not to happen now, and in no small part due to peer pressure + a timetable that'll make him decide before he can consider NFL options in earnest.

Weirdest thing to think about is what if the 49ers didn't have their rash of missing players this year and they made the playoffs? No chance he'd leave before seeing how far his team made it. Kind of a perfect storm... should've rooted for Hoke to win 2 more games.

I can picture it now. ESPN Headline: December 30 press conference in Ann Arbor with Jim Harbaugh. Ole Jimmy walks up to the podium and says, "Thank you for coming. As you all know, it's great for me to be back at my alma mater, the University of Michigan. What better place to announce I'm going to be coaching the Oakland Raiders next year. F*ck all of you, I'm out."

I hope this does not happen. If Harbaugh goes to Michigan I think the pecking order of Midwestern programs becomes:
1.)Ohio St
2.) Michigan
3.) ND

I think the gap between ND and Michigan would be larger than that between Michigan and Ohio St. Harbaugh will instantly create a ton of buzz around the program and while it will be too late for this cycle they will pull in a monster recruiting haul next year. Combined with his coaching and the soft schedule of B1G and Michigan will be a playoff contender in 2-3 years. I thing we could contend for a playoff spot next year so would still be ahead of Michigan short term, but there program would be in a better longterm position. Especially if BK fails next year and we lose 4+ games and have to start from scratch with a new coach.

Its sorta irrelevant now but before the season Glazer was saying he was done pretty much no matter what.

I've seen other coaches accept a position but stay for a bowl game and stuff. If he is really going to be Michigan's next coach, why delay the announcement and let more recruits decommit and remaining targets commit elsewhere?

Right, but the season end for him would've been pushed into mid-January... so unless he wanted to quit before the playoff run was over Michigan would've been between a rock and a hard place.

My buddy's company typically does the transportation for Michigan to and from the airport. Recruits, former coaches, etc. Will be interesting to see what happens going forward.

I'm just disappointed you haven't opened this door of info sooner. You're slacking.
