If you believe that kids were 1) not getting money before this, and 2) prioritizing academics at football factories like Michigan at the expense of their athletic endeavors, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Kirby Smart gets paid $13M per year. I have no issue with kids getting a piece of the revenue pie.
Getting a piece of the pie is one thing.

Turning major CFB into more of an arms race than it already was is another.

The big problem is that unlike the NFL, there isn't guardrails for this. It's literally NFL without a salary cap, and several ramifications can and in some cases, already have happened:

1) Boosters are going to get burned and burned repeatedly.
2) Players are going to chase the bag and then get burned when they aren't given what they were promised.
3) All of this hurts program staff. Forget the head coach. The assistants, the training staff, guys who are making regular wages, their livelihoods hinge on the bag man. I'd be pretty miffed if I was a QB coach making a couple hundred thousand a month, putting in 70 hours a week, and hitting the recruiting trail to land a top tier player, only for another school to swoop in last second and steal that player because X school offered him 5 million dollars. Now, my ass is on the cutting board, because my school got out-bid.

Are we really concerned with the boosters taking Ls? THINK OF THE BAG MEN!

Plus, isn't that market economics? If they continue to get burned, the money dries up (or, at least, the ridiculous contracts will).

2) Players are going to chase the bag and then get burned when they aren't given what they were promised.

Live by the bag, die by the bag. If a kid makes a college decision based on the biggest price tag, and fails to secure his rights/protect himself against "getting burned," that's on the kid. I have no sympathy for those cases.

This happens all the time. Look at the sheer amount of flips that occur on NSD. You're not ever going to remove that from the game.

And again, it's on the schools to perform proper evaluation of why a kid's making a decision to commit. If your team goes all in and decides to recruit the Dante Moores of the world, it's on them to have a backup plan until the day the player signs the NLI.

Again, if people want to be stupid with their money, I have no problem with it. But the general public can miss me with the "it's ruining the game" argument when those points ignore the gross amounts of money these schools and coaches are pocketing off the backs of these kids.

I didn't know you were the national No. 1 rated QB in your class!
HOMAGE on X: Don't let anything distract you from the fact that 55 years ago today, Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High Panthers

He once threw four touchdowns in single game.

I will forever fail to understand why people don't grasp this very simple concept. This has not been about education for a very very very long time. The athletes get to register for classes before everyone else, but apart from that, they don't have full access to an education whether they want one or not. Their priority is football first. Practice, weights, games, etc.

I mean, Billy Napier's buyout is $26M and he's an employee of the state. In terms of what is good for college football and what isn't, it's a bit too late to start putting shit back into the donkey.

Don't tell me there aren't ND fans that wouldn't want the program to do things like this if they had their way. Not just on this board but all over the fanbase.
I am going to start using this immediately. Not sure how it will come up, but at some point it will.

He’s playing games in my opinion. He later deleted it. Not saying he’ll end up at Michigan, but I think he’s enjoying driving fans crazy.

If Michigan is throwing around Millions there is no reason why ND can't get there or be there. I'm curious how this offseason plays out we have a boat load of talent on defense and offense that are Freshman and Sophmores starting or making an impact. They need to go out and get another WR, 2 DT, and maybe a starting NB again.

They do throw around money, just in a different way. They’d rather throw money at established players like Leonard, Mills, Morrison, Watts, etc. I prefer Notre Dame’s approach over throwing a giant bag to a QB who’s done jack shit at the college level.

And this doesn’t mean Notre Dame doesn’t compete NIL wise for high school players. They just invest more NIL money in older, established players.

Not many people here know it, but Irish#1 is actually Jeff George.
I've met George several times. Outside of FB, he's actually a pretty nice guy. I saw Mirer, Grossman and a few others when they were in HS. George is the only HS QB I have seen that you knew would pull a game out if trailing in the last two minutes.

At least the little Bitch is NOT going to the skunkbears .... Alabama officially flipped stout defensive back Ivan Taylor Monday night, per Hayes Fawcett of On3.com.

I totally get where Greg is coming from here, it's a double standard. The issue is, neither team should've been ranked as highly as they were/are until they prove it, which IU has a chance to do Saturday. I feel like he's saying "well, we didn't' care when it was Michigan, why are we caring when it's IU?" Personally, I think OSU is going to boatrace them. But I've been wrong before.

I'll add, I do feel like it's kind of odd there seems to be ND fans almost defending IU. It's a fun story, I get it. The basketball school who is historically bad at football is doing well. IDGAF that they're from the same state, or for the cindarella story. They are currently another obstacle in ND's way to climb the rankings, with a weak ass resume, and I want them gone lol. Period.

I think we all know deep down that Rusillo and the SEC defenders are right (even if I wouldnt say it publicly). SEC + Big 10 expansion have created massive SOS distortions that didnt exist previously (outside of a few SEC West teams). It didnt matter as much with the 4 team playoff because a 2 loss team was out regardless.
