SCOTUS heard the Mississippi abortion case today.

I listened to a bit of it. I'm certainly biased and 100% unqualified but to me it sounded like Mississippi had a good day and Sotomayor, in particular, came across as much less intelligent than she obviously is.

Didn't know that either. Pretty crazy to think it's only seven countries.

Sotomayor is already complaining even though they are only hearing arguments at the moment.

All three liberals -- Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan -- looked almost pained during oral arguments at times.
Sotomayor was the most strenuous in defending precedent, especially towards the beginning of arguments when Mississippi's solicitor general was at the lectern.
At one point she noted that "15 justices" in 50 years have voted to reaffirm the viability rule in court precedent. She suggested that the only thing that had changed was the composition of the court.
"Will this institution survive the stench that this creates in the public perception that the Constitution and its reading are just political acts?" Sotomayor asked.

There was a national review(i think?) Article during her confirmation process where a bunch of her clerks and former colleagues said she's not a very gifted judge.

The thing I picked up from this is she is inserting her emotions and personal preferences into this.

Lie 1- 100k Children are hospitalized w/C19 & on ventilators
Lie 2- OSHA is a ‘police power’
Lie 3- Omicron is deadlier than Delta
Lie 4- Covid deaths are @ all time high
Lie 5- Daily cases exceed US population

On #5, 750,000,000 cases out of a 330,000,000 population, to be exact. That's a pretty big whiff.

This goes beyond "misinformed" and looks more like dangerously stupid.

If C19 presents a level of "imminent danger" that legally enables totalitarian policies of forced vaccination, restricted access to society, shutdowns/lockdowns, censoring free speech (in many cases censoring theories that are proving correct).... I mean we are looking at any given flu season subjecting us to this crap. The level of complacency and ease with which huge swaths of Americans happily succumb to this is beyond disturbing.

Seeing that the Court has finally struck down Biden's mandate for large businesses. Probably too little, too late at this point as many have already lost their jobs or took the vaccine against their will to save their position. It's sad that the President reversed his own position on this after he said Americans would never be forced to take the jab. It should have always been a voluntary thing given the fact it doesn't work like traditional vaccines do and it hasn't gone through long term testing. They should have included health care workers too.

My read of these two interlocked decisions is that government can't mandate but businesses/employers can. Government as an employer can mandate, but not as a regulator. I may be wrong but that is my quick take on the "healthcare" side. So lets give more power to companies and zero to individuals, hooray!

She needs to be gone.

She's never been anything more than a quota appointment to virtue signal and pander to a particular demographic. She's not particularly bright nor a deep thinker. She's weak on Constitutional understanding and interpretation, and she tends to be fast and loose with facts. She has little substance or depth. She's just a steady liberal vote whose appointment was politically expedient.

My assumption is that Biden knew the mandate was likely to get shot down by the Supreme Court, but he hoped it would nudge individuals to get vaccinated and it would nudge (and give cover) to businesses to implement their own mandates while this whole thing played out in the courts.

With Breyer's expected announcement, it looks like Joe will be able to fill a spot under his watch. IIRC Breyer is a center left judge, so there shouldn't be a big change in voting.

Breyer was a solid left voice. He and Sotomayor are on par with twitter libs in terms of ideology, so this won't be too much of a shakeup in terms of ideology. Hard to believe the folks who have executed so well on everything else would foul up this announcement. Supposedly Kennedy's resignation was known by everyone in the court and admin for months ahead of it going public. This one got fouled up.

It looks like the democrat dark money operation to Retire Breyer was effective. Now we will find out who Clyburn and dem dark money have picked for us.

The timing will be interesting. Sounds like the dems want to rush this through, when they don't really need to and when the court is still hearing cases, vice the Summer, when justices typically retire and likely when Breyer had a plan to do so.

Joe Biden - the most racist man in DC - voted against Clarence Thomas. Now he will only consider black women - obviously he would never consider them unless he excluded everyone else because he is a racist SOB (we all know he is making zero decisions and will nominate whoever his handlers propose). Hope he nominates Big Mike for the first tranny SCOTUS.

The last three weren't particularly fast. Barrett was fast. And was a recently confirmed judge. Exactly the type that could be expedited. The average since the 70's is 70 days. So really these things have just just gotten slower over time.

Gorsuch took 66 days. Sotomayor and Roberts took 72. Kagan. 87. Kavanaugh 89. Alito 92. Thomas 106.

The only two outliers there are Barrett and Thomas.

Not sure why Dems would want to go fast. They got a perfect distraction to keep themselves "busy" approaching mid-terms.

They absolutely want him replaced. They got a 50/50 senate. They got the POTUS. Even if he stuck around an extra year could be problematic if the dems lose the Senate. They'd still get a replacement, but it would probably be a more moderate pick.

They are going to put y'all back in chains! No wait - that is what they will put on anyone who questions the nominee. All Rs need to do is apologize as they ask the same questions Dems asked of Kavanaugh and ACB - directly quoting specific Dem Senators by name and pointing to the lack of nutso protesters.
