Really nice to have someone outside the T-14 law schools as well. I think Thomas has made a point to hire clerks from regular schools for purposes like this.

Absolutely thrilling. Wonder if ND will climb up law rankings as a result. Gotta think this will help get more upper tier kids and faculty interested in the school.

Schumer stood up there and said Amy Barrett is qualified. He stood up there and said he won't be voting for her because he doesn't like her views on the constitution... He even said no rules were broken at all... He just simply doesn't like her views on the constitution.

Originalism and judicial restraint will never be accepted by the left. It's directly at odds with "Progressivism". If lawmakers (both sides, not just dems) would do their F'ing jobs, we wouldn't have this issue at all.

Collins is in a dogfight for her seat right now. I think this tells the independents in Maine that she is willing to buck the party. I dont think it would be wise to ever primary her. She's been very popular with Mainers until recently.

They mentioned earlier that there is probably a deal with the GOP that gave her an OK to vote no. Not sure. Interesting thought.

I am still baffled that these people are incapable of a logical exercise. If you ask any of those people, "why wouldn't Republicans just do the same?" you'll probably get a blank look before they say "well thats different."

If Dems add seats, the Republicans will too. And the most highly respected court in the world will have zero legitimacy the moment the first seat gets added.

Idk whats worse, the bullying or the girl scouts backing down to bullying.

The bullying is dumb because if your genuine goal is to get women more "power" in society, then ACB's confirmation to the highest court in the entire world is objectively good. Unless she dies or retires young, she will have a voice in American law for the next 30-40 b years.

Backing down is dumb because if you are a non-political and non-partisan organization then there is nothing to apologize for. A woman for only the 5th time ever has been selected to an exclusive club that has historically been dominated by men. Either celebrate women or dont. This isn't that complicated.

I listened to the whole speech. I thought it was well presented and his demeanor was calm. His points were sound and on the side of individual liberty. They were also consistent with his opinions on the cake case, the Nevada Church case, and New York State Rifle and Pistol case.

People are angry that he talked negatively about cancel culture, censorship, anti-2a policies, and restrictions on religious liberty. Those are people that promote cancel culture, speech compliance, gun control, and the idea that religion = bigotry.

It was a good speech and I'd suggest listening to it.
