How about steal Phil Parker the Iowa DC? What could that guy do with a massive increase in talent?
He's been coaching at Iowa in some capacity since 1999 and has been DC there for the last 10 years of that tenure. He's surely had other opportunities and he's going on 60 years old. If he hasn't left by now, I'm wondering if he ever does, even if it is for a pay bump and the ND brand.

Who'd they interview last year? Have to feel that some of those names would be under consideration again.

I think he means ND made Leonhard say no. As in they knew he probably would not say yes, but wanted to hear him say "im not interested."
If that's true, then why would he say yes this time around? Was he thinking he'd get the HC gig at Wisconsin?

I want good football coaches, full stop.

Leonard is a good football coach and if Freeman thought he was worth it last year and he thinks he is this year then let's make it happen.

On a separate note, the significance of Freeman getting these hires right cannot be understated. As recently as a week ago, we thought next year was a year to make a legitimate run. Can't waste that opportunity.

I assumed the staff he put together last year was going to be a group looking for upward mobility in the near future and change would be coming. But, I also didn't see 9-4 and both coordinators leaving. I thought it would come in the way of the assistants like Washington or DMC.

I like Leonhard but maybe he does want to take some time and learn up some fresh schemes so he can take on whatever gig he wants next. I think he really wanted that UW job and thought he'd get it. That's gotta be tough. I wonder if he's looking at maybe going to the League as well.

Al Golden fell out of the Miami job pretty hard. He was an assistant in the NFL for 5 years before he got another coordinator opportunity at ND. If one of his boys gets an NFL job and wants to bring him in, it's really hard to fault him for that, whatever you feel about the guy.

It's how the business works. If you're in the first line of dominoes, it's probably good. If nobody wants your coaches, they won't come calling for them. Simple as that. Hand fulls of people in your fan base get anxiety when coaches leave, but in the end, who cares.

Funniest shit imaginable if Saban took ND's best recruit and both its coordinators in a six-month span.

What can you even do but chuckle at that point?

Wouldn’t laugh too much, it may not stop there. We still have players that were recruited by Bama.

You’re lucky I like you! I agree the hires will be huge. Good hires and a step forward in year 2 with 10 wins sets a completely different trajectory for the program than mediocre or poor hires that lead to another 8 win or less regular season. That will create an uphill battle for MF that could take a couple years to turn around if he is even able to, and people will get antsy to say the least.

Golden's not going to Bama, what are you talking about. They want Pruitt and have other guys lined up if they can't get him.

I thought Bama D coordinators have to be an absolute dawg on the trail and that ain’t Golden.

Saban's going after Jeremy Pruitt but he can't hire him until the NCAA decides whether or not to put Pruitt in jail ("show cause" is what I think they call it) or just give him probation.

Leonhard's getting a million dollars not to coach this year from Wisconsin so we'll really have to pay up to get him. Anyone care to explain to me why they are doing this?

I believe its common for coaches to still go find a job, then the former school pays the difference.

Example - Bo Pelini fired from Nebraska. Nebraska owed him millions. He took a job at Youngstown State. Nebraska continued to pay his buyout less his YSU salary.

If I remember correctly, wasn't his salary at YSU significantly lower that what it could have been because of his Nebraska buyout?

HE was getting around $215k

Current guy is making $250k.

So seems like he was getting a salary at market for what YSU could/would pay.

Soooo….. anything more to the recent chatter? If he’s leaving, I’d like it to be, well, now! Maybe we get our hands on someone good before Saban gets his choice.

My gut tells me Freeman is doing so much learning on the job that Rees knew he’d get the training he needed from Saban & Golden doesn’t have any desire to stick with him as he grows into the position. And it seems he wants back in the NFL anyway.

We’ll be fine.. ND is a marquee name.. I’m not concerned.

There’s a talented OC out there that sees what Hartman has to throw & hand off to & will want to be a part of it.

On the other hand Tommy doesn’t have Bryce Young.. He’s going to have to do some development.. albeit with better talent than he had at ND but they certainly need work.

We’re about to find out what he can really do .
