Can we get a well-regarded defensive mind who will stay for 3 years minimum?

I thought Golden would be that guy but I guess not
It would be nice, but three years is a long time and in this profession it's even longer.

Three years ago it was February 2020. Do I need to spell out for everyone here how life can take unexpected twists and turns that nobody sees coming? Luke Fickell is in Madison, WI right now. Nobody could have possibly seen that coming 9 months ago let alone three years ago. You'd have laughed if someone told you.

The SEC has now taken ND's head coach and offensive coordinator in a little over a year. The NFL could take Al Golden. Nobody can quite predict how the dominoes are going to fall each carousel.

Expecting a dc at ND to be successful and stay for Three years is laughable

Singer said yesterday Golden isn’t safe at ND until all the NFL moves have been made.

This will be the last time I ever throw his name out so... Pete Kwiatkowski.

Would be a better fit at ND vs UT and rooted for the Irish vs SC in his formative years in SoCal.

Scheme wise, his evolution of the Dunn --> Patterson 3-3-5 would fit in well with Freeman's D philosophy.

I won't get free tickets from anyone else so that's all I got.

Some Longhorns are unhappy with him so it COULD happen. I just don’t think it’s likely.

Wonder if MFMF will ever take back DC. Too much on his plate currently since he’s new to being the head guy? Players wouldn’t have to learn a new system every year like the DC musical chairs of late.

Love the guy, but I think he has enough on his plate while a game is going on.

A lot are. And it's my probably pretty accurate "guess" that he's not thrilled with the over all culture of what he inherited, the boosters, the admin, the fans and football in general in the entire state of Texas. Maybe he didn't think it would be THAT different from UDub. Surprise Pete, it most certainly is.

I bet he also left UW for UT for (1) money and (2) some sort of speculative friction with Jimmy Lake taking over after Coach Pete.

But now that he's away he might find a different type of student athlete more refreshing. He's also got that Bud Foster never be a HC type of vibe going now since he NEVER pops up on those coaching radars. Pete K may finally give the stability for ND DCs. Plus, he's always recruited Texas well so that helps.

He has no desire to be a HC. He was gone as soon as Coach Pete wanted to leave. He bent over backwards to keep Lake and was on board with the transition. Would be the ASU DC is it hadn't devolved into a Tijuana Tire Fire. He lives 10 minutes from ASU.

Sark & money got him there. Can't see him wanting to deal with it for the length of his contract.

If I’m Freeman I think I’d be pushing this guy out the door. Hey Free Free, I might take you to prom if she turns me down. Yeah not interested in games. GTFO playa, next!!!

You’re in it or you’re not. That’s were my attitude is starting to go!

You will have a hard time getting anybody to come work for you then in the current landscape of the sport. Loyalty is a thing of the past.
Dont mistake this for me being ok with it, I HATE it, but its reality.

100% correct. Loyalty is very rare anymore. Selfish people.

Just a reminder to people: this is the guy they wanted after Jim Leonard. This is the guy Freeman waited for throughout the whole Super Bowl run last year to announce instead of picking someone who was more immediately "available."

I think Coach Freeman wants him on staff and would not want to push him out the door. Even Al Golden said in his introductory press conference that he was so impressed by Marcus Freeman at HIS press conference that Golden turned to his wife and said, "that's the type of guy I want to work for."

Unless he gets a big time offer, I bet he stays.

Those are good points, but looks like the stars just might be aligning in Arizona for that "right" opportunity to open up

If ND ends up with Moorhead/Ludwig and Jim Leonhard, this is the biggest falling upwards offseason ever.
