Just had a thought, how much time "we" have spent on Aaron and all his decisions? His profile page was one of the biggest and most commented. All for 1 season, not very good ROI. ;)

Before one of you jackwagons say...its his decision, etc. Save it...just my opinion/observation.

The team has to move on with who is here and not worry about who isn't.

...this is where I am. I just don't see a benefit in saying much of anything except "good luck kid"...

Whatever his issue...and its more than just his GF...its his issue. Life is short, he's young enough to eff up a few times...you all never made a stupid decision at 19 ??? At some point, you gotta let these guys take the wheel. If they crash...you hope its a little one they can learn from.

...I've tried to not project the wisdom of a 40 something on a kid...I gotta tell you, it makes the recruitng cycle and stuff like this far less maddening...

I kiss no man's Arse...Depends on the woman :)!

"Contrary to published reports, Kelly did not block Lynch’s transfer to any other school — not that it was necessarily tested.

Some schools that were reported to be blocked didn’t request a release for Lynch. South Florida, the school most likely to be Lynch’s landing spot, did request permission to talk to Lynch and was not blocked."

From an Eric Hansen article. Feldman or whoever the one lone guy out there was with a "source" saying transfer destinations had been blocked appears to have been misinformed.

This is part of one of my posts from the spring practice thread. I feel this is the reason we can move on, (as well as the date Bob!)

I finally caught up on tape of practices. What I noticed blew me away.

1) Tate Nichols isn't the best right tackle; Lombard is. Nick Martin is one hell of a guard as is Mike Golic. This is important for a couple reasons. In the rodeo drill, (back in my day we called it the "nut cracker"), Day had his way with Nichols. I mean really, nobody can stop that kid. And he does not ever run around the block, like Lynch regularly did. I think day is just as fast and much stronger, a lot shorter possessing none of the bad attitude.

First prediction: Day is going to have as good a freshman season as Lynch did. Don't tell anybody. This is a closely guarded secret among the coaching staff. As an upper classman he is going to have a much superior career to AL. If AL makes it at USF, (home town school) you will be able to watch it. Day is on the rise, AL has plateaued. I will eat my hat if I am wrong on this.

2) Martin, Martin, Golic, Lombard, and Nichols are beasts. Watt is an absolute, mfin beast. He and Cave are going to be the most physical consecutive players in college football, and the linebackers like Grace, Rasaba, Utupo, and Moore are all werefukinwolves. William, Councell and Spond, with Shembo will give us an outside like we have not had in a longtime.

Prediction D'eux: Our offensive and defensive lines will be much improved over last year and begin to rival the best in ND history; Dominant units. The linebacker corps, the weakest unit on the team last year's improvement will be even greater. They will be animals and deep too. Almost every linebacker on the roster will be able to play, come fall. . . .

He is staying at ND through this semester correct? That has got to be a little awkward

I like it... hopefully you are right on both predictions. :)

I still truly don't know what to think about this whole situation. I haven't given any type of opinion on this because there's so much we don't know-- on both sides. I guess I'm finally commenting because:

1) Several posters on this thread and a couple others have either claimed they were going to let us know more of the "inside scoop" and/or hint that they have an "inside scoop." To which I say in my best Judge Smails voice, "Well...we're waiting." And as we know, the whole "I know something but I can't tell it" BS never floats around here anyway.

2) Like I said, I don't really know what to think about Lynch leaving. He's a tremendously talented kid for sure...and it sucks d!cks anytime you lose a tremendously talented player. Anybody who says otherwise is probably drunk or out of touch with reality. But sometimes there is definitely truth in the whole "addition by subtraction" thing. So there's that. But I'll also say that in college football, I think it's absolutely true (unlike the NFL) that restrictions on practice time and the intelligence (or lack thereof) of players means talent and playmakers matter a whole helluva lot more than many want to admit. It isn't as much about scheme, knowing the playbook, and mental aptitude in college as it is about finding the players and athletes to put on the field that can make plays regardless of how intelligent they are. I point to the SEC, Oregon, Texas, Miami, Florida St., Oklahoma, and whomever else you'd like to include from recent years [that places a premium on footbaw ability over mental ability (or capability) virtually 100 times out of 100, if given the choice in their program] that has done well in winning college football games. The programs listed above are full of Aaron Lynch-type of guys. Now I'm not saying that I think ND should become what those others are nor that I don't think ND can win big in today's college football landscape. I think many on here have oversimplified the whole Lynch leaving discussion or have been quick to jump to either extreme in their feelings about him leaving ND.

Bottom line-- I think there is a lot of gray matter here still when formulating an opinion about this issue.

Lets try this approach since so many people have a problem reading between the lines.

Once upon a time, at a highly regarded university there was a very good football player that thought more about "Me" than "We". That type of attitude never works well for anyone so a highly regarded and very wise Head Coach stepped up and did what was right and necessary.

Lets move on people. Please!

Well, as we learned about Urban Meyer and Florida recently, it worked to the tune of 2 Natty's and damn near a 3rd in 6 years. People can claim what they want NOW about the program, but the place was the apex of college football for a time. I wonder how many Florida fans would give all that up?

Plus, Im royally pissed that no IE members ever stood next to Lynch with a tape measure. That hope has now died.

I agree with BobD that we should just move on ... Aaron Lynch simply decided he wanted to be back where he grew up, and that's it. Why dwell on it? There's nothing anyone can do about the kid's current emotional state, and it has nothing to do with the other players or coaches or recruits. So let's just move on. But at the same time I do agree with those who say we shouldn't minimize the loss from a pure football standpoint. Aaron Lynch would have been arguably our best player, and I agree with IRISHOG that having the right guys is more important than anything else in college football. Not that it's the only important thing; just more important than any other single thing. What's the old adage, college football is more about the jimmies and joes than x's and o's?

So anyway, as I've said repeatedly I don't think we need to leap to broad conclusions that top athletes can't be happy at ND, but at the same time we shouldn't act like losing Aaron isn't a big deal. Fortunately we have a lot of other talented guys at his position, so we'll still have a solid, even excellent D line, but with the quickness Aaron had at his size, he's capable of making certain plays that no one else on our team can make. We may as well be realistic about that.

If he ends up playing in Florida, your hope is still alive. They have a long history of players having photos taken with a tape measure next to them, I think they call them mugshots?

To be perfectly honest, if you don't have a substantial basis for this (which you might) I feel like perpetuating a rumor like this is a little haphazard. If this site wasn't the #1 response on Google I probably wouldn't care, but here a rumor gets half-way around the world before the truth gets its boots on.

Agreed. Why is this still open?

So, Blue and Gold game on Saturday. Do you think there will be any surprise standouts?
