I don't know if I get this rationale. We won the recruiting battle, he came to ND, gave it a year, and decided ND isn't for him and he wants to be closer to home. Why should we have hard feelings about that? I think it's fair to prevent him from transferring to any school on our schedule for the next four years, but other than that I dont care where he goes. His transferring to a school we recruit against may even help us in recruiting ... Maybe a recruit decides there's more playing time up for grabs at ND than FSU b/c Aaron Lynch is at FSU now, so he picks ND.

I understand this train of thought.. I guess I'm torn on it.. I just see all these kids in my generation acting like responsibility, loyalty and commitment mean nothing, and by letting him go anywhere it just makes it seem ok to quit on his teammates.. but then the other half of me understands it doesn't always work out and he gave it a try and it wasn't for him.. it just sucks seeing ND get the raw end of the deal time after time.. for a university that does everything the right way, and has all the tools necessary to shape and challenge these kids in the classroom, football field and in life, it's just disheartening to see ND being the player in this scenario that "loses".. some people say it's good that he isn't there if he didn't want to be there and "next man in" and all that, and I get that.. but at what point do kids in my generation have to man up and deal with sh*t, bite the bullet and follow through with their commitment? there's a lot of things that we all deal with and man up, own it and move on.. honestly though, I can see it from both points of view so I understand people's frustration and also people wishing him luck.. I'm neutral, I suppose

..Aaron lynch seemed fine with the standards/requirements/expectations...the kid seemed to genuinely be tugged toward "home". Best of Luck to Aaron. He seemed like an energetic kid...great talent....I wish him success, and the peace he seeks....well and turf toe if we play him :).

I don't think the "blocking" of schools is as big a deal as people are making it out to be. He wanted to be home in Florida presumably to be close to his girlfriend... USF looks to be the closest school to his hometown. And from what I understand of the process, ND has to release him to whatever schools he wants to talk to. For this instance I saw that USF received his release papers (or something to that effect) that enabled them to talk to him. So for my understanding its not as if Kelly is singling out those 3 schools to block...

And it would be my guess that Lynch and Kelly discussed going to USF so its not like Kelly is preventing Lynch from doing what he wants... I'll say it again, USF is the closest major school to his hometown which is where he wants to be...

SIAP, but is there any chance whatsoever AL realizes the error of his ways, both parties swallow their pride, and he plays in 2012 for ND? Or is the bridge burnt beyond recognition?

*I mean as crazy as this saga is, there has to be at least a .00000001% chance right?

Disclaimer: I don't actually want this to happen in Aaron's life but,

Would it be that insane if between now and X date (when he has to officially leave the University) he and his GF broke up and he doesn't feel the need to transfer anymore?

I'm just thinking out loud here, but with all the flips he made during his recruitment, I really don't think a change of heart is out of the question. I've moved on already but I really don't think it would be that crazy if in 1.5 months Sapp tweets something about Lynch changing his mind.

^Not a prediction, just thinking out loud

I really don't think its completely out of bounds with reality. About the GF, if past events are any indicator of future events, being around each other every day has a high probability of making the relationship fizzle out at a speedier rate anyways.

Sorry if this has been posted but Lynch's GF wrote this on his wall about 3 hours ago

"For all you ignorant people, I did not make Aaron leave Notre Dame. I was already planning on moving to South Bend this fall, but things changed. This is what he wants to do and I'm going to support him and will support him for the rest of his life. All that matters is his happiness and for him to follow his heart. All of you negative people, along with your negative comments, mean absolutely nothing. It just shows your immaturity and selfishness. You all should continue on with your own lives now."

I don't care what input anyone else in his life had, ultimately it comes down to his decision and I think he is taking the easy way out quitting and moving back to FL, and I hope he goes to USF so I can boo the sh*t out of him next year.

Couldn't agree more. Ya'll can wish him well and kiss his arse and Canonize (in the living years of course) his mommy just because she posted here. Big deal. That being said, he's crapped on his teammates who were there for him, he crapped on this University (twice) and in the end, he's walking away for a piece of trim and sunlight. I'll save my energy for someone worthy of it.

I just don't understand the decision. From a football perspective it's a crappy move. You sit out a year for one. When you practice it's against inferior competition so you get pushed less and the same for games. You get less exposure and if you make it to the draft teams will downgrade you because this comes off as immature.

Secondly you're abandoning your team mates and friends. Leaving them out to dry. Furthermore, his gf was apparently willing to move out to SB. That means either he REALLY missed Florida, or his HS friends. If he goes pro post junior year he could theoretically endure ONE more second semester winter (leave after the semester football is done).

It's just bizarre. Hope he lands on his feet.

You know how I love you man . . . but I am going to disagree with you. I been tinkin' jou know? I haf met pple like dis'.

Sometimes you meet someone riding a crest, then the start bitching about everything, the sun is in their eyes, the grass is too long, and then for just some stupid@ss reason, they chuck everything. You look at it and every time you do it is like putting a 500 piece puzzle together and having numbers 499 and 500 missing. I mean it just doesn't work through.

And then you are left with the cold thought; maybe they just lost their never, like entirely blew their confidence. Maybe Tate Nichols was the vehicle. Maybe this guy was never going to fill his hole, do his assignment, maybe it was just the quickest way to the qb, team be damned, I am doing this for my glory, and then he met his kracken . . .

Mrs. Lynch sounds like she's not happy about it, tried talking him out of it, but ultimately supports him, as she should. The gf, well, sorry, I don't buy her story.

The bottom line is that, although he was a very talented player, he didn't want to be at Notre Dame. And if he doesn't want to be there, he should leave. It is better for him, and in the long run it is better for us to have guys who are buying in and committing themselves mentally and physically. We can all draw whatever conclusions we want about what his leaving says about his character, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter and airing that out here makes us look petty.

He's gone. The team has to move on with who is here and not worry about who isn't. As fans, we should do the same thing.
