Aaron Hernandez charged with murder

Any chance of foul play? Certainly seems like a head scratcher given the fact his lawyer got him off for the double murder and thought they could still appeal the first one. Wasn't his lawyer the same one that got Casey Anthony acquitted? Got to think your hopes are high with that guy. Hernandez was seen blowing kisses to his daughter and fiance when the verdict was read I guess...just seems like a weird ending.

By the accounts in the reports he tried to bar/block the cell door from the inside, but I wonder if that couldn't have been done to help push a suicide bid. The fact there's no note is kind of sketchy...nearly half of all suicides leave a note behind, but obviously if it wasn't in his handwriting it would destroy any cover up. Not defending the guy here, he was scum and deserved to be punished for his crimes, it just really makes no sense why he would take the coward's way out at this juncture. If this was some old fashioned justice to prevent him getting a later appeal on the Odin murder and walking away scott free...might have been a good thing rather than have him on the loose again.

My first thought as well. Timing makes no sense. He's a POS, but he also just cleared a mega hurdle towards eventually being a free man...even though he still faced long odds.

He's clearly a psycho and most likely just snapped...however, I can't help but think of how much money the state would have to pay him in damages if he won his appeal on his original murder charge....

dude's brain needs to be evaluated for CTE i'd guess
I just came in to mock this exact position. I hope you're not serious. This is the dumbest shit I've ever heard, and they're actually advancing it as a theory on ESPN. Football made him kill himself. Did football make him a murderer, too?

Well TBI has been linked with those types of tendencies in the past. But that's clearly not the case here. Hernandez was simply a criminal.

But the lawyers will use that as an excuse for it all. Then they'll run to the bank with the money the NFL/Patriots shell out from the lawsuit/settlement.

"He couldn't stop himself. He became this way thanks to football. Look the the daughter who is now fatherless because of this reckless sport."

still needs that due diligence. plenty of HS players have messed up their brains due to CTE before they even sniffed CFB/the PRo's.

I read on Twitter the other day that the Pats may have to pay his daughter the 15 mil that was guaranteed from his contract. Something about his conviction being vacated because he was in the middle of an appeal when he died. And if vacated the Pats would be forced to pay his guaranteed money which would then go to his child.

I'd really like to start seeing other sports brains being scrutinized too.

already happening. Rugby is going through the whole CTA process now the NFL has been going through in regards to return to play protocol, negligence, bad tackling technique training etc

What a mess that could turn into.

I wouldn't be surprised if concussions are more prevalent in soccer than in football. Soccer gods don't want to discuss on the national stage in fear that it might curb kids from playing.

I forgot he was from Bristol until he was in the list of remembered deceased in Mass today. That was awkward.

How long before a site like Salon absolves Hernandez of any wrongdoing and blames an "intolerant society" for his bad behavior?

Give it a week.

On a more important note, Wizards lives in Bristol. I want to know what his role in all of this is.

It all started when Wiz and Aaron made eye contact while they were both balls deep in a McDouble during the lunch rush.
