I have been a long-time consumer of knowledge on this board, and I rarely post - so I know I am in no place to voice opinions on what others post on recruits' threads. Despite this, I just have to make a request of other posters - if others don't agree with the sentiment, then everyone can ignore.

What I am requesting is that everyone refrain from making jokes about being aroused by recruiting news. They were funny the first few times they appeared on the site - but at this point, in my opinion, these jokes are no longer funny. They have become more and more lewd, and more and more annoying (to me, at least). My own feeling is that they are inappropriate, and a little bit weird even if everyone knows they are purely meant for laughs. If I were a recruit, or a parent of a recruit, I might be a bit turned off by these comments.

Again, this is just my opinion and it is not directed at any individual or any specific post. It is something that has bothered me as I have seen this type of joke appear more frequently, so I thought I would post this thread to get a sense of whether others feel the same way.

What is with the complaining.
First complaints about prayer pics
Now complaints about joking around
Should we ban youtube vids next.
We are Irish fans we follow the team (most of us pretty closely) laughing joking having a good time. To me these seem to be good things.
Why must we ruin every good thing that happens to us.

I think this country has, unfortunately, bred a culture of people who are offended by everyone and everything.

Not trying to be a d!ck at all, but my suggestion for this board and life in general is that if you don't like it ignore it.

Makes me wonder though if we were sitting in a bar doing the same exact things since most of it is just our personalities if the complaining would be the same of if they would just join in.

ha - definitely did not mean to bring the mood down on a great day for ND football. I may be in the small minority on this one, so like I said feel free to ignore completely. I do worry a bit about how these types of posts would be read by recruits and parents, but I may be way off. I'll relax and stop worrying about it.

Yeah no one wants to be the "L 7 square" at the bar. Or you go home with the fat, ugly chick in the corner booth. If you're lucky.

You're cool man. No biggie. It's one of those things, I would call it a "locker room mentality". When I played football in college no kind of joke or f*cking around was off limits, because we were all brothers. Even the guys who didn't really like each other all that much. I feel like it's the same here. I have only been around since September of '11 but I feel like "one of the guys". It's just the way it is. We go through up and downs together, we may not like everything everyone says all the time, but we do all have a common interest and goal in mind and it's a love of ND football. That's the best way I can explain the social phenomenon that is Irish Envy.

I couldn't have said it any better than this.

I like to refer to it as pussification of America's youth. I find it quite catchy

At the risk of being mocked myself, as a long-time lurker and a very occasional poster myself, I would agree with autry that those jokes are kind of uncomfortable to me. While I have learned to just skip over them for the most part, reducing the number of those jokes would certainly increase my enjoyment of reading things on the site.
It isn't a major issue for me... but autry, I mostly wanted you to know that you weren't alone on this, especially considering some of the less than helpful responses you've gotten so far (note I'm not saying all of them were (before the rest of you kill me)).

As well, in response to "Makes me wonder though if we were sitting in a bar doing the same exact things since most of it is just our personalities if the complaining would be the same of if they would just join in," while I certainly wouldn't be one to join in, in person I might be less willing to speak up about it, sure.

Thanks Autry

Thanks Autry

Thank you Autry! Your comments elicited some of the most entertaining and cogent responses I have seen in a long time.
jho15 nailed it. We really are just a bunch of guys (and gals) throwing it back and forth, in support of a common love.
We don't have to agree, but laughter is more fun than negativity.

The guy has an honest request, and a couple of you have mocked it. Others have told him to ignore it, and yet others on this thread can't do the same and ignore it.

The guy barely posts, but that doesn't make him any less of a member nor his opinion less valuable. We were all new once (well, except for BobD), and we all had low post numbers at one time (except for whiskeyjack...I think he came out of the womb posting), but we all had opinions.

His opinion is a valid one and shared by more than just a couple members. A few of you might want a complete locker-room type atmosphere, but the owner of this site (and jpham, who runs the site) has made it clear that it really isn't completely a locker-room type of site. (Thus the moving of the hot women thread, which was getting too raunchy for the owner's taste.) There are other Irish sites that allow that type of stuff, and hey, it's all good. And some of those jokes don't really cross the line (who knows where that line is drawn exactly) and they're fine. And some don't get read by mods and they are kept.

I know for me, I think the jokes are immature and stupid, but not everyone likes my type of humor, so to each his own. But when they are in recruits' threads, and I see them, they are deleted. We already know that families read those threads, so let's keep them family-oriented. There are plenty of other threads for those types of jokes.

Autrey_Denson I agree with your comment that you worry about recruits and families only because everyone goes nuts on here if a recruit gets ripped or criticized. If everyone is so worried what recruit and player families think when they read the board your point is very valid.
So I guess the board needs to decide what their stance is and stick with it. Put appropriate things on here and be nice to recruits and players, or let everyone put what they want about recruits and post crewd comments.
Just so everyone knows I could care less what anyone says so dont attack me for being offended.

Don't be so "hard on" yourself. Wood you feel better if I gave you some reps in return? I guess the "rub out" of everything being said is that some things are tolerable on a Notre Dame Board and others are just boners. Hopefully others will be able to "whip it" back into shape.

I believe you meant "bonerz" HCTI.

The pity rep is appreciated! Guys just to be clear I'm not overly worked up about this or calling for anything to be toned down - I come here for the info and b/c many of the posts are entertaining. And I think it's cool that there's a community of posters, I respect that.

I was really just focusing on that one type of joke that gets re-used over and over - yes, I personally think these jokes have become less and less funny over time, but the issue is not whether or not they offend me (they don't - do they annoy me seeing them over and over? yeah, a little bit), the real issue is how they are perceived by recruits and their families. I think there is a distinction between a bar or private forum where anything goes and a public forum that recruits and families read.

That said, I don't think it's a big deal and I'm clearly one of the few who thinks this way. I'll drop it and watch as the puns flow in - and at least I can take credit for inspiring some creative d*ck jokes.

Grrrrr..... I forgot that one.

Post on, sir. That said, message boards aren't meant to cater to one man's ideals. I understand where you're coming from and I appreciate it. If there is one poster in particular or a certain thread that bothers you, I'd suggest staying out of it. The ignore feature is also useful to tone down more "boisterous" posters that you notice.

Go Irish
