‘27 CA OL Jackson Hill (Notre Dame Verbal)

Did ND like him more than Starcevic, Wagner, and Esposito?

They had to pay Olu the money slotted for his spot, as well as the money that would have went to a Starcevic / Wagner type player. Not top dollar, but more than most think. That's a huge part of the reason Olu jumped at ND rather than Miami or Texas A&M. He was looking for a dollar figure and ND was able to to write that check... But at the cost of a Starcevic or Wagner type that was also looking to get paid.

Instead, the staff took Olu and pivoted to a high upside guy (Jackson Hill) that cost substantially less in NIL, in order to get their 5 man class and make sure the math added up.

I fully agree with that play. If you have a chance to get an elite talent (Olu) and the cost is having to take a low floor / high ceiling guy (Hill), instead of a higher floor guy (Wagner / Starcevic)... You do it all day.

That's a really high upside class, with lots of tackle options that can bump into guard. Really quality recruiting!

It seems like this guy might be still growing.
If so, NOT TOO MUCH, big fella. Don't want you at 6'9".
Gotta keep your ability to bend and stay low.

Others are saying we still are willing to pay Simien. I wonder if some money is set aside for "best player available"

There is such a power law to elite talent, especially at certain positions (Qb, OT, DT) that this is most certainly the right approach. I’m glad ND is ahead of the curve here. I fully expect this to be adopted by every major power player.

Simien is in a category of "you find money". There are certain players in each cycle that transcend the position group and the funding set aside for that group. They're "best player available" takes because they can be program altering talents. Simien fits into that category.

I'm sorry, when has Freeman been "blown out on the big stage"? 5-2 in the postseason and the losses to Oklahoma State and Ohio State were not blowouts.

Biggest deficit of a loss for Freeman so far was 13 points against Louisville.

This UCLA person is an idiot and the bias isn't even of the recency variety.

Alright calling my shot - this kid has a ton of recent ND related follows, including Gino, Jansen, a OL Analyst, Singer, Freeman, and even our boy Bruce.

3 star Currently committed to UCLA but huge frame.

I just think they really like the 4 we have and don't feel like Wagner / Starcevic are worth the money for what we are looking for. Hill has solid upside and probably was much cheaper, which is why they kept it tight lipped.

Saying Freeman does less with more to a greater degree than Riley (or at all) is pretty hilarious though. The delusion is powerful in this one.

Message board genius level take from this Bruin

If you assume the 68 refers to when this dude was born, it makes sense:

I was born in 68
I probably was exposed to a lot of lead
I don't understand the chart, but the colors are pretty.
If I make my eyes go out of focus, I can pretend I'm at the base of Mt Everest.
It says he's a Trump-supporting sophomore at UCLA. Has to be a miserable existence at such a liberal-leaning school.

Looks like he likes to mix it up and also look for someone to hit when rumbling downfield.

Kid does have an elite frame to work with and he's played catcher most of his life so he shouldn't have any problem with his bend and getting low but he needs to improve his footwork by levels. Seems like a mauler much better suited for run blocking.
