By no means an expert, but that size and that film looked like a prospect of a potential 5 star to me. Hard to factor competition level, but that's a big, athletic young man that moves really easily with a little nasty on top. Ideal left tackle.

All this ol class needs is to get Lange in the fold and it'll be one of the better ones when all is said and done, imo.

I don't know if the rest of the recruiting sites will go that high. On3 truly bases their rating off of upside and NFL potential. Black has some great traits and athleticism, and that goes a long way for how they rate recruits.

Jamie U is quite high on him. Prister too, although he likes Lange more. IB, specifically I believe it was Bryan Driskell, believes he could be a Top 100 type of player.

My understanding is all the recruiting sites base their rankings on NFL draft potential. 5 star meaning they believe the kid is first round potential.

I disagree with it fundamentally, but I also understand it's probably the only way to rate kids with as few variables as possible.


That being said, On3 is a site run by goofuses. Even if they end up getting this guy right, it doesn't change the fact they are run and operated by doofuses.

I think he's ranked too high, but at the same time, I can see why they put him that high. His junior film was phenomenal. It was his first year playing ball in the States. Obviously, the Private Boarding school league (or whatever its called) in the Connecticut/NE Area is not the greatest, but it has a track record of producing some good players.

Again, On3 ranks based off of NFL potential. They clearly see Black being a Top 10 pick one day, which has been said similarly by those on the ND beat.
