Depending on how you cook the data, it is. But the parts of SB that bang aren't on top of ND and I'm sure you go east when you leave campus for whatever.

Anyway, being born in Gary... I giggled at the post.

Im real west, but frequently downtown in the courts block and it never seems bad or feels dangerous. Also I just don’t watch local news so there is that.

Old downtown Gary by the court and government buildings is more abandoned then scary although there was a murder there a few months back. I didn’t see it but one of my friends did walking past Genesis center to courthouse

They've made the playoffs two straight years, beat OSU twice and almost won a playoff game.

They're better than us lately
So we're awarding them extra brownie points because they barely lost to the team who got curb stomped in the biggest blowout in bowl game history? Not CFP history...in BOWL GAME history.

In the last 5 years, ND has 2 playoff appearances, 4 10+ win seasons.

Michigan has 2 playoff appearances, 3 10+ win seasons.

So yeah, not getting the notion they've been "better than us lately". They had far and away the best CFP draw of all time and somehow managed to fumble it away. ND drew two of the best teams in CFP history and lost.

I always wondered how a kid who left ND can come back an do a "pro ND" pod. And people will listen. I listened for about 5 minutes of that hot garbage.
I gave it a try and it wasn't really for me. He was in the program four years and graduated. I recall him being very tight with BK during his time as a player.

Just spitballing here, but I give Justin Scott a greater chance of getting a degree at Notre Dame than at Michigan. I think if he chooses Michigan as a recruit, he winds up somewhere else in the end via the portal. Nothing to this other than my own internal assumptions making a guess.

I still don't understand how Illinois hasn't factored into this if he truly wants to be "close to home." It's a two hour drive.

If Scott does not schedule a visit to a game I think ND loses out on him, if he does make sure CJ Carr is there....we need to get him on the D recruits especially Scott & KVA.

Because it's Illinois and they perennially suck?

Close. To. Home.

They're one of the best public universities in the country and it's two hours away. He's visited Miami, the 2017 ACC Coastal Champion, which is in Florida and hasn't done shit in twenty years. If you're going to visit anywhere down there, it has to be might SEC member UF by logic. If it was ever about being close to home, it stopped being about that for a good period of time.

I still get the impression that things blew up so fast and furious in a way that Justin Scott wasn't ready for that he's prolonged this into taking his time. Which is fine and the right thing to do, but the staying close to home part of it is something we've moved on from a while ago. That being said, if he's narrowed it down to ND and Michigan, it's probably the two closest options he's got.

The other factor that plays into this as it relates direct to ND fans on this board and elsewhere is that he attends a Catholic school in Chicago, which gets the hopes up of certain people from jump street, then when it doesn't go according to that lot's grand plan the finger pointing and blame game begins.

Oh I agree. It feels - reading between the lines here - like he initially did plan to stay close to home and basically wanted Notre Dame. Then he blew up and decided to look around. Maybe he just wanted a free trip to South Beach. Which is totally fair and frankly I'm glad we put off taking his commitment so he could do so. After seeing the world, he seems to have maybe returned to the notion of staying close to home. Only now that includes Michigan.
Which yes is farther from home than Illinois but unlike Illinois, Michigan (and Notre Dame) is actually good at football. Which might be a factor here too? FWIW, Wisconsin is not much farther from home than Illinois but he's not looking there either.

Either way, yes, Chicago Catholic schools stopped owing us all their good football players at least 30 years ago.

my disappointment with Washington right now is (he doesn't get all the blame but he should get a lot of it) here's the facts. The best (rated Dline player) signed under his watch committed to elston. The very best player decommitted (keeley). We didn't beat any good football schools last year for players and only thomas this year have we beaten a good football school for. We have a 2-3 deep of talented players recruited by elston that we beat a lot of top teams for. Washington is not recruiting well. On top of that, i think players regressed some under him last year. Big year for the dline, no excuses other than coaching with the talent they have. This approach of "lets find under the radar players that aren't being heavily recruited" is not a formula anyone has utilized as much to win a championship.

Washingtons best recruit he's landed is probably Baptiste.

In Justin's particular case, Illinois is coming off of an 8-5 season and more importantly have done pretty well recently developing the position he plays. They have two DT right now who are preseason first team Big Ten Defense (Randolph and Newton). He would have had to at least given them a look for that on the football side along with the quality of education you get there and the proximity to Chicago. Wisconsin and Iowa probably would deserve a peak as well.

Now the people around Justin are probably not even pointing this out because Illinois doesn't have Miami's past or UGA's present.

If we're being realistic here, this is about football, not being from a Catholic HS in Chicago. He took a couple of trips down to Miami, UGA, etc.

I was always under the impression that South Bend was notable dangerous and, outside of Notre Dame, Holy Cross, and St. Mary's College, that the town and surrounding areas was largely a dump.

ETA: I've lived in both Baton Rouge and New Orleans, so please don't take offense. I'm sure NOLA and BR's crime makes South Bend and Gary look like Mayberry.

No.
That’s old info.
South Bend is pretty normal now.

Every city in the country has a bad area.
There is a difference in that & the whole city being a dump or dangerous.
I will walk right through South Bend with my kids to dinner & feel perfectly safe.
I mean sure, you’d do that in certain parts of the city. My family and I “Walk right through” Fort Wayne to dinner all the time…in certain parts of the city. Other parts you avoid. Of course South Bend has some very nice areas, but other parts are still very dangerous. Just like Fort Wayne. Just like Indy. Just like most midsized towns.
