Venables may be approaching Harbaugh territory for the level of creepiness and desperation when it comes to recruiting.
I don’t know. From all reports, families love the guy. Drayk Bowen actually had Clemson at the top of his list when Venables was still at Clemson. That family loved him and that was one of the reasons Clemson was a leader for some time.

Yeah he recruited very well at Clemson. Honestly I don't think recruits and families see him like we do.

Irishnd31 pays to have other things blown up his ass, but that’s a story for another time
Not a bad idea for a new theme for this thread if/when he decommits. We have the Dante Moore (Food) thread and we could have....that, for this thread.

Drayk Bowen has Clemson up there for their baseball program if I'm not mistaken.

That's fine, but the Bowen family recently did an interview with ISD and they mentioned Venables multiple times and stated Clemson was the leader at one point and Venables was a big part of that.

Anyone who expects Bowen to stick should expect some semi concrete bit of clarity in the next 36 hours. I don’t see how it gets past Freeman’s in home visit and we’re still just doing the daily I’m telling both schools the same thing dance.

I say this as the same person who said it wouldn’t bleed into the season lol

So Roberts thinks he’s gonna stick because ND did 3 in home visits when he left out that OU also did 3 in home visits? I shut it off but I didn’t hear any other real reasonings besides that

That was Venables the proven Defensive Coordinator. Venables the Head Coach is a different animal with a poor track record to date.

I still wouldn’t bet on Bowen sticking, but Brent ain’t wowing recruits with his charm, good looks, or coaching acumen these days.

I dont know if this applies to Bowen, but I would not be surprised if a handful of top recruits extend past NSD. Sounds like theres a lot of money on the line.

With transfer rules the way they are, even if Bowen sticks I'd be nervous to hold onto him. High flight risk given all the pressure to go to OU

Yeah If I'm Freeman you almost need to put some pressure on this kid are you with us or not? The good news is he is talking to our current committs like he is part of this class. If he stopped communicating with them I'd feel way more worried but whose to say he doesn't have a chat going with Oklahoma guys either?

Begs the question. If he commits when does he pull an Aaron Lynch? Haven’t we seen this story before?

He just had a post on IB that he talked to a commit and the commit said he thinks Bowen sticks. They just played video games and Bowen is still active in the group chat.

I wonder how some of the commits end up feeling if he flips to OU and feel like he was lying to the group the whole time.

Good chance this is all hopium: the flipside is if you were in his shoes and wanted to go to ND, the far easier thing to do would be to keep telling the pro-OU people you were in to get them off your back until you could get TF out of there

This is classic insider behavior. Put out enough positive stuff to keep the fan base interested. IB's intel is seriously a kid playing video games with him? Come on.

I don’t think Schrauth intentionally led anyone on though. He essentially flipped to the schools privately just never public. So while he was indecisive, he never led anyone on.

Most ND insiders are thinking Oklahoma without saying. IB is saying ND. The cognitive dissonance that will occur on this board if IB is right!

This reminds me of Matt Fortuna using one of my friends as a source when the Manti Teo gf story broke back in the day - kid was getting direct quoted on ESPN defending Manti and their only interaction had been playing Fifa like three times in the dorm. In retrospect, he was on the right side of history...

We are approaching the point that ND is so tightly controlling information that the guys with no inside sources are actually providing better intel on the program. If we do, in fact, reach that point then ND might soon regret that folks friendly to the program are losing their platforms/voices in the broader public discussion.

I don't think those two situations are similar at all.
Maybe not identical but Lynch had a “fiancé” back in Florida didn’t he? Which made his recruitment teeth and nails until he picked ND over FSU only to transfer about 12 months later back to Florida.

How does it benefit ND to have well-informed beat reporters? The university itself is far better equipped to control its own narrative and can leak tidbits in innumerable ways. Feeding an industry of “insiders” they don’t control seems to have little upside, but real quantifiable downsides in that these guys negatively influence our recruits all the time in the race to scoop each other.

Fuck ‘em.
