About 56% of all DI athletic scholarships go to men. Title IX does not mandate an equal number of scholarships.

EDIT: My original percentage was too high. It's 56/44.
Really? News to me. I could have sworn the language said something like “there must be substantial proportion” with regards to financial help.

For D-1 the max number of scholarships available for women's soccer per NCAA rules is 14. That is usually spread throughout the entire team.
This holds true for both men and women. One of the reasons why my twin boys are looking more at playing pro in Europe than going to college. Mind you they are in 8th grade, but they have had some great exposure already, having done some camps at Barcelona and Madrid. We are heading to England in April where they will be at West Ham and Man City.

No high school? Seems like a tough path especially considering how much the deck is stacked against you growing up in the states and not hopping in an academy at like 7 years old. Best of luck to your sons I'm sure they're incredible players.

Another reason I love America's approach to sports so much. Even, say, Caleb Williams is expected to at least nominally be enrolled in classes even at this late stage. His hockey or soccer equivalent hasn't been inside a classroom in a decade.

No they are going to High School, private school: ND College Prep in Niles, which has a top HS Soccer program in IL. Our club has some ties with PZPN, the Polish Soccer association where our top kids get scouted by some clubs there. That is the most likely route for them.

We (otherwise rational adults) are subject to the whims of 18 years. Most of whom will probably make a potentially life-altering decision based upon one of two factors: girls or NIL $.

Sometimes I think I am crazy to be so invested in this. But, then I think about all of the other people that are crazy and tell myself that at least I have company!

This is getting crazy. Supposedly the mom likes ND, dad likes Oregon, then the brother (Junior in high school) absolutely loves OU.
Wasn't the brother's dream school Oregon back when they visited Oregon? lol

I don't watch the LL Podcast too often but does Malik always show up on camera looking like he just woke up?

Interesting, don't super high level soccer players (to be clear I was never a super high level anything, just an above average lacrosse player and average football player) usually stop playing for their high school's soccer team and go play for the Fire Academy or something like that? But it seems like you're one of my favorite types of people, the Chicago Poles lol. Wish there was more representation of you guys at ND, if only the Irish would give you all more spots hahahaha

They usually do, but I want my boys to avoid the MLS garbage...most of their teammates will be playing HS ball so they will be doing it out of necessity in a way.

Problem in the US is pay to play...which MLS Next at least here in Chicago you are paying for...I know a few of my boys ex-teammates who are playing for Fire, Sockers and FC United (the 3 big ones in Chicago for MLS Next) are paying a pretty penny. Rather my boys play for a club that is more hands-on and brings on kids from different backgrounds and save the money for foreign exposure.

Nice. I hate how sometimes soccer kids get pushed out of playing for their high school

This is all a very transparent and telegraphed rug pull, right?

Yes. With how predetermined the losses of big recruits and big late season games are, I sometimes wonder how I maintain such obsession with ND football with how predictably we fall short

The only way he’s flipping is if he already did & the staff asked him to wait to make it official until signing day as to avoid weeks of negative recruiting press leading up to signing day.. imo

If I had to guess, I think he sticks though. He comes from a solid family & I don’t think they’d allow him to pull the rug so late unless it was coordinated with the staff

The thing is he's pulling the rug on somebody. And I don't think it's intentional. It's just really hard for him to tell someone no at this point.

I don't see the benefit of the staff asking Bowen to wait until NSD to announce he's not coming.

All that does is take the attention away from the two-dozen other guys who are set to have their big moment and sign with ND.

That would be pretty lame.
