A large NIL check?
IDK. To me the biggest question here is how badly does A&M want Novosad. They had Holstein, and then were in the hunt for Dante. Novosad was not their priority. Is he now? If he is, it may be hard to beat A&M for a Texas kid with two parents who went there. (I realize Carr fits a similar profile but I wouldn't count on that lightning striking twice so soon.)
Agree, tough pull. But it all just depends on what the kid wants. Does he want to go local to a big time football school or does he want to carve his own path and go away to a very unique big time football school? Hard to know where his passions lie.

I'd say if he's been to TAMU 4 x's and has not committed to them, he must be hesitant for some reason.
Fair point. Isn't TAMU in a little different position now though? They no longer have a 2023 QB. If he's now at the top of their board then the feeling of the upcoming visit may be a lot different.

Might also depend on how he views TAMU. He grew up outside of Austin, over 2 hours from College Station. TAMU is kind of like Michigan State to an Ann Arbor kid. It just leaves a little brother feeling, regardless of their recent recruiting success. No matter what TAMU does, they'll never be University of Texas. Notre Dame is a different animal and a true blue blood program. Depends on how he views prestige. TAMU pool party will likely be fun. I wouldn't put it past Jimbo to buy kegs and have have the TAMU cheerleading squad there too along with bags of cash. But if he felt like Ohio State was too far from home, he's not going to notice a shorter flight heading to SB. ND's best chance is that it's ND and some kids just can't shake the vibe they get on campus, the academic prestige, and the pedigree. It also helps that TAMU currently has a top 10 QB room. ND needs him more than TAMU does. At the end of the day ND is not going to offer him as much money nor can you beat a 2 hour drive from home.

Both parents went to A&M. It’s his dream school.

I really dig this kid... Finally watched some film. I don't like him enough to jeopardize CJ however. If that is or isn't the case, I don't care, that is my opinion so don't @ me ;).

I do agree that we need to stock pile arms/talent and after watching film I would put him in the top 3-4 guys I watched.

Just to play devils advocate, we as ND fans have heard the "dream school" quote on many fruitless occasions, no?

Sure not a slam dunk ex CJ Carr just he certainly doesn’t view A&M as a little brother.

This is why there should be buzz about another QB visiting as well. There seems to be a weird monogamous-like strategy Rees employs in QB recruiting. He is going to be a great husband.

It’s been posted over the weekend they talk with Minchey and he’s been offered:

Loy posted today saying that Glenn isn't considering ND, and that Minchey is (along with Novosad). Says that ND carries a lot of weight with Minchey and his family, but that flipping him from Pitt isn't a slam dunk by any means.
Most interesting tidbit from the Loy story is he seems to think that Notre Dame HAS offered, it just hasn’t been confirmed yet

Heard Greathouse will join for the visit. Gotta love hearing that! Let's close this kid!
Damn that can't be cheap for him, I wonder how much a recruiting process costs these kids. I know a fair bit come from money or the prep school will do a tour of a bunch of schools.

Maybe I'm a cheap ass but the money spent on unofficials by these families must be quite a bit. Of course NIL will make some of them whole but not everyone is getting that deal.

Tldr - cool that a kid from Texas is making the trip for an unofficial to help recruit. Fucking national brand.

I have read - though not sure how widespread it is or if it's something we're doing - that NIL funds are now finding ways to pay for unofficials. At least in some cases.

They had another QB committed - Holstein - during two of those visits, and were in the Dante chase around the time of the third. If they want Novosad it's a fairly recent development.

If he wasn’t already, it’d retroactively double fire Del for how obvious a fits Greathouse, Flores and James ended up being and they all barely knew Del. It’s almost as damming as how the 2022 cycle was handled. There are these kids floating out there just waiting to give ND a chance you just have to be willing to find them out.

and the Isaiah Bond story will haunt me when he’s a first round pick at the 2025 NFL Draft.

I want him, BVG, Longo, T Joseph to be hired by Narduzzi to finally fry his last remaining brain cells.

Dale, can you refresh my memory so I don't go through a million threads. What happened with Del and I Bond? Did Bond express interest and Del just never called him?

Loy basically said post signing day that he doesn’t know why they never went harder after Bond. He camped at ND before he blew up and told Loy at one of the AA bowls I think that ND would have had a real shot. I think he visited at least twice as a less highly recruited underclassmen.

Basically we may not have landed him IMO but Bond was I thought maybe the top receiver in last years class and we just didn’t recruit him

The recruiting skills of Terry Joseph, Del and BK through a hindsight lens LOL

“Bond doesn’t really feel the need to see or learn a whole lot more about Notre Dame.

“The only thing I could think of is meeting the head coach,” he said. “That’s about all I can think of because I really have a good experience every time I come.”

He mentioned ND as a school that would've made a significant dent in his recruitment, and Loy went as far as to say he was confident ND would've gotten him if they had offered. No idea why they didn't, kid had an offer from Dartmouth. Isaiah Bond Recruit Interests

I think if TAMU had their man (Holstein), lost their man, then went hard after another man (Dante) whom they also lost and then turned their attention back to the local kid they knew about all along only after the fact, he’d be desperate to go there (literally 3rd choice at best). ND had a commit from a more local kid and lost him and knew nothing about Novosad. You can’t fault ND for missing a Texas kid that hadn’t blown up yet that was also committed to Baylor. If I’m Novosad, I’d feel a bit of scorn towards TAMU and committing to ND would be a nice FU, I’ll carve my own path, similar to how Michigan made CJ Carr their “backup plan”. I get that Novosad is a legacy, but he isn’t as deep of a legacy as CJ Carr. As others mentioned, ND is similar to Baylor, just Baylor on steroids.

It might also help that ND is most similar to Baylor than OSU and TAMU.
I think it's going to come down to Baylor and ND. I've also read - on a few Texas and TAMU boards - that he was very close to flipping from Baylor to OSU but was talked out of it by several people close to him pointing out that he may never see the field at OSU with their log jam at QB in the next few years. OSU is pretty much out of it.

Then to a QB, we must look like the greenest pasture on this here earth.

We have one top 10 QB on the roster, a likely career backup/savior and another developmental prospect with a 5 star in 2024. That is about as good as you'll get at a premier program. Hell, there has to be above a 30% chance he's taking snaps in primetime by his 2nd year, even if it's to position him for his big junior coming out party. There's also a possibility this late bloomer has only thrown the first bud, at which case he continues to ascend and will be looking at taking snaps from a veteran.

With a good QB and no defections, this class is probably the most complete and talent rich that I've seen since I started following recruiting (~14-15 years)

I agree. I have been saying this for weeks. If I were a top 5 QB, I would go to ND simply due to their recruiting and depth chart. That's unbiased and not considering the thousands of other reasons ND stands above the competition. I think even if Ben Stein were the QB coach he could sell a 5 star QB to ND.

You think ND has to make up for criticisms that it’s not a “fun” school? I wonder if the work / relatively conservative environ. aspect still deters a lot of recruits.
I'm sure there are kids for whom that's a factor. But also those for whom the academics and spiritual life on campus are attractions. On balance it doesn't seem to be a big problem at other positions. Not sure why it would be at QB.

Totally agree BUT we can't forget about the Transfer Portal in the future. Many of the national powers seem to pick up 2 or 3 somewhat proven college players every year. Remember Fields at OSU and To'o To'o at Alabama? This class is super but just part of the equation. So even if we miss on a few with this class, the Portal will help us fill the gaps

It would be nice to have a qb not only do well in college but nfl also
Sure, but it's kind of a crapshoot. Do you think more of NC State because Russell Wilson and Philip Rivers went there? Does Cal get QB recruits because of Rodgers and Jared Goff?
