I doubt that meetings been had.

I'm guessing he sees the writing on the wall. Maybe someone from back home or UNC got in his ear too.

I would think that playing for Bill is a bit of a draw for a home state kid

Yeah, curious as to why? Homesick maybe? Wasn't he kind of a last minute flip or am I thinking of someone else?
My guess is that Rocco and Billy are coming back. So there’s not a guard spot open

Some guys see the writing on the wall. Apparently he doesn't feel like he can earn a starting spot next season or has other personal reasons for leaving. Seemed like the staff liked him so I wish him well but I hope every single player that transfers out has their stomach churn when the seconds run out and ND is hoisting the trophy.

If everyone else returned and Lambert secured a tackle spot our entire second string offensive line would be somewhere in the top 10-20 best offensive lines in the country.

A- Lambert, Jagusah, Craig, Schrauth, Wagner
B- Knapp, Spindler, Coogan, Absher, Black

Joe Otting was one of my favorite o line recruits as well.
Legitimate chance to be the best olines in the country and an all time ND unit.

From my not-enough-informed point of view, this looks like a very smart "career decision" by this young man, who made it with courage and immediacy. As we have all talked about: Notre Dame's offensive line room is probably THE most stacked room in the nation going forward. This young man is good and would start almost anywhere --- he DID start here. BUT, now the picture changed (especially if Spindler's back, AND they are looking for a place to play Knapp.) Unless catastrophic injuries occur, it would take a miracle or a very odd surprise to get him playing time. So ... Go young man and start --- be one of those guys we often see on national TV where the announcer says, this is a Notre Dame transfer who the coaches are particularly high about.

I'm not wishing this, but I'd be understanding if he was not the first of this bunch.

Peter Jones too I liked him hes 6'5 312 that's good size for a guard.

I agree on the Knapp and Coogan part but I’m penciling in Charles at LT for now.
None of us know much but the more informed speculation during fall camp was that Jagusah was a better guard prospect than tackle. If we have good tackles it might be best to move him inside full time.

i dont really understand his decision tbh, he was never physically developed enough to demand a starting spot when everyone was healthy. He should just get back to being a backup and getting stronger and be ready to compete as an upperclassman

Yeah but that could be 2026 before he gets more than mop up duty. It's very possible that he's 3rd man in next year and is interior-only. Keeping everyone on the OL was just never realistic and unfortunately that means some kids are gonna leave before they get their degree.

but this basically the roadmap for OL at ND and its been highly successful. Its almost like he got a taste for being a starter and now going back to being a backup just isn't appealing to him. And if there were never injuries this year he may never have gotten this taste and would be happy to bide his time. Also maybe other schools saw him and got in his ear perhaps

He can prob go somewhere and immediately start, plus get an NIL package that ND wasn't ready to slot on his role.

I agree it's the roadmap, but that's not always appealing for the reasons you mentioned. Better opportunity elsewhere, possibly more money, ability to develop more rather than a chance for competing in 2026.

I'm sure a lot of programs would offer money for a guy with 3 years of eligibility and P4 starting experience, that would be above what we would pay for someone expected to be a depth piece.

Same could be said for Knapp best thing for Knapp would be to take a medical or redshirt in 2025

The interior post 2025 is likely:

Craig
Schrauth (?)
Jagusah/Knapp
Absher
Otting
+ underclassmen

Schrauth should/could be NFL bound by then. So from that perspective if Pendleton is not confident he will start amongst that group, he should probably transfer. If he’s not willing to wait for the payoff of being a multi year ND starter, also makes sense to leave

If it was me in Coach Rudolph's position, and Marcus Freeman agreed (you don't do anything strategy-wise without clearing it with the HC), I'd take a VERY LITTLE time and then begin taking to every player in my room. I'd be honest, but saying as positive a conversation as I could with each. I'd be assuming that every other team in the country realizes (better than we here at IE do) that ND has too many very high ceiling linemen to get on the field, and some just might want to jump. Rudolph will be trying to preserve the whole roster, but I bet that the Notre Dame way will not involve flat out lying. ... some guys are going to be disappointed.

In pre-transfer & easy portalling days, this sort of massaging wasn't such a piece of coaching I wouldn't think. Now I'll bet it's required. I'm also assuming that for some athletes just telling them "well, you'll get a chance to compete like everyone else" won't be enough if other chances exist.

The added thing here in these situations is that each one of these guys has a pretty good idea of how good each of their teammates is, and whether they are "favored" in any way in the staff's minds. We don't know any of that.

A medical means he wouldn't be allowed to play again. Not at ND, at least.

Unless you mean he takes medical-redshirt year for the season, but for that to happen, he would have to be... you know, hurt for the season.
