That the lack of a 6* QB can be overcome with just a historically dominant defence.

Plus 19 5-star studs throughout the roster. ND will never get that many elite players so a high tier QB is probably what we will have to have. An elite offense and serviceable defense that can get off the field and generate turnovers.

Maybe. All our best runs recently have come on the backs of a great ND defense. But with the way modern offenses are trending, it feels like investing in elite defense is akin to building castles after the invention of gun powder. Nice to have, sure, but not gonna win you any wars on its own anymore. It's all firepower now.

Exactly. The winner scores the most points. You needs defense that is good enough to ensure the points you score will be enough for 13 games

Defense still wins games. Maybe not at the point totals of days of old, but it's still the key.

In so far as you keep the opponent below the points you score on offense

It goes both ways, you're not going to consistently win big games if you're giving up 40 points per game no matter how explosive your offense is. And to slow down the high powered offenses out there you need to recruit DB at a high level, which we haven't until this past year. Even though the recent natty winners have gotten the attention for their offensive firepower their defenses by in large have been equally stacked.

Great D will get you to the playoffs, maybe even win it in an off year. But you pretty much need to score 31+ points to win a college football playoff game.

It use to be a great D was defined as holding teams to around 10 - 20 points a game. Today a great D is defined as holding a team to between 25 - 30 points.

Hmmm I'm getting skeptical of those recent CBs that went his way. First the SC visit and now Steeples is chasing. Don't like it.

BUT I'm not too concerned because I think the rest.of the DBs that would be back ups are just as good.

His SC visit was already planned an talked about in premium info. I think he has another visit planned to a different school too.

I'd rather he take these visits now, than second guess things when he is committed.

Yeah this has the look of someone doing due diligence before turning out the lights. I did see a mention at some point that LSU could be interesting if they get involved, but it would still be pretty surprising if he isn't ND.

Sounds like visit went well and his mom really likes Freeman/ND. Doesn’t have a commitment timeline but ND still appears in a good position here.

Heard Kerry Cooks now at LSU was doing some negative recruiting towards ND with Christian.

Kerry Cooks loves that neg ND smack talk

Did the same shit at Oklahoma. I have zero respect for him whatsoever, especially after we brought his pink ass back as an “analyst” after failed as a coach elsewhere.
