USC pounded our front seven in the run game with a bunch of 3 star nobody OL guys
Vorhees, Dedich, Neilon & Monheim were all 4 stars.

3* Bobby Haskins was a 3 year starter at UVA, All-ACC w/ a PFF grade of 92 last year.

But your point of 3* not meaning much at OL stands.

Rivals lists him as a four star. I admittedly stopped paying attention to all of this years ago, but back in the day Rivals generally didn't dish out stars as liberally as 247 and Scout.

Regardless, his offer list suggests he's not a candy ass like the people here whining about his ranking.

I like him. More than I thought I would before watching his tape. I really don't see what's not to like.

The biggest problem with scouting HS OL is that the competition is often just so incredibly different. From his film, we have very little idea how he will handle a bull rush from a 300lb DT. The indicators have to be things like looking like he has a strong base and his defensive highlights showing him stonewalling a double team.

He also did seem to have good awareness of DL/LB movement in pass pro, which is something I almost never see mentioned in scouting reports but will get a player roasted on a message board during a game.

Think this kid could have a strong future. Projects to the interior line as a guard. Strong and has good feet.

Welcome to Notre Dame Christopher Terek!

Ditto! He could be a complete dozer on the interior after Balis gets done sculpting him.

Don't care about rankings and really like the tape. He's the target they went after, once Paige de-committed, I'll take them at their eval. However, he does seem to project to interior and Paige was an OT. So, I don't really know how the math works out on that but hopefully they do.

Actually, I think they were all 4 stars on 247.
I had to double-check.

247 had them all lower 4-stars.

Composite had Marist and Kiser as 3-stars, both around 88, and Bertrand just barely made it as a 4-star with an 89.

On his podcast today Prister said Terek has "bad weight" and will have to lose it and rebuild his body. Interestingly he was impressed with Absher and Pendleton. Thinks Pendleton looks like he's in shape and Absher moves well for his size. Pendleton, of course, was the only freshman OLM in early so it would make sense he's in better shape than the other guys.

I might mention that statistically coaches don't expect to hit on every recruit. You want to have about 7-8 "starters" for OLine play per season. (and 2-3 more "acceptable" OLiners for a solid two-deep.) If you have traditionally recruited "four" OLine on average per year, you're hoping to hit on two to three of them --- perhaps closer to two since OLiners often take five years if they're actual players. (Portal screws up this simple traditional math a bit, but it's probably still close.)

So, when we assess our OLine recruiting in each class, we should ask: Did we get at least two good ones? Three means we're doing really good. Missing on one, even badly, is not much of an issue. If you hit on every OLine recruit, then you'd have 16 guys for 8 playing spots, and three of those would still sit the bench backing up. If Jagusah and Abshur, and Pendleton look like hits, we're winners.

Yea I heard that - surprised me - I really thought frame and size Terek looked super impressive really stood out to me vs. what I expected and Absher looks less than and I thought looked less than in the all-American game. But, seeing any live practice action with movement is obviously better than my observation .
