I heard Keon wanted to take his visits and Freeman told him he needs to decommit then, If that's the case then good for Freeman. I also respect Keon in being honest with the staff. I'd rather him decommit now than last day before signing day. Now it gives the staff 4-5 months to fill his spot.
Yes, I’d say a reasonable part of the timing is the no OV’s for committed prospects requirement by Freeman and staff. And Keon is going to be at Columbus in a few weeks. So, this had to come to head here soon.

Will Anderson will be a top 5 pick and Dallas turner will be a first rounder.

Bird in the hand is more valuable. Give me a million plus collecting interest over an eventual ND degree any day. And again there’s nothing that precludes ND from doing both. If an ND is so valuable that plus a comparable NIL deal should win easily.
If they parents are getting swayed by the upfront money, I would imagine they'll spend it before they bank it for long term gain.

Deion was right the whole time... not that we all couldn't see it.

Saban didn't go after Jimbo and Deion because they were buying players. He went after them to wake his boosters up.

They usually have a yearly bump once they dial in on how they want to finish their class, but what they've done lately seems to be on a different level. 💰💰💰

I've done the whole chicken little act with recruiting before. I'm long past that. Sun came up today. I've got air in my lungs and coffee in my cup. My kids are going to school shortly. The big ball called Earth keeps spinning. I'm going to keep watching Notre Dame Football wherever Keon Keeley ends up. That's just a fact.

I think Marcus Freeman is going to win some games. Lots. They will have a very good class in 2023 and they have a foundation set for 2024 very early in their tenure as a staff. Some coaches will move on at the end of the season. They'll be replaced with equal or better coaches. It will keep going forward with whoever has the whistles and whoever puts the gold helmet on.

I don't know about the rest of you here, but life has thrown me plenty of curveballs, especially since March 2020. Whatever your profession or whatever your state in life, you have to keep going when things that are less than ideal happen. Football is absolutely no different, and if you're a fan, there is very little within our control other than our ability to type things on the World Wide Web.

You can live your life by every quote you heard from Lou Holtz:

  • “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it.”
  • “Never tell your problems to anyone. Twenty percent don’t care and the other 80% are glad you have them.”
  • “It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.”
  • “Adversity is another way to measure the greatness of individuals. I never had a crisis that didn’t make me stronger.”
  • "Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care."

Just wait until his next fund raising campaign
"Other schools are paying so much for players...I'm not sure if I want to continue to coach at a place like this in this environment...maybe I need to think about retirement or relocating...."

Don’t gotta respect decision, don’t gotta wish him well, don’t got hope you have a great career( in fact I feel pretty comfortable just hoping he eats a dick
LOL the right path. Go to a school whose academics are abysmal.
Call it what it is. Pay me money before I play one down, one practice and if not, bye
There is stupid and then there is this. One unlucky hit and it all goes away. Then what do you have?

I heard this as well. Also LL podcast hinted that the staff was not going to "let any one player pimp them" and were going to move on.

No, the Bama visit was an unofficial. Heard he told the staff he wanted to take OVs this fall and the staff said if you take OVs they will have to do their due diligence and look at other edge players because they don't want to get caught sitting on their hands. Much respect for the staff if its true.
oh that's right. My mistake. It was an "unofficial" three day visit where he was certainly not paid travel expenses, lodging, and dining. I forgot. My apologies.

If we want to get him back, the best thing we can hope for is he takes visits. Especially to the Ohio State game and hope he sees what he is missing out on if he doesn't go to ND...

ISD update literally says he was forced to decommit by some people around him. The implication is that they wouldn’t let him sign somewhere without that upfront NIL guarantee. Kinda unreal.

We are so used to having “parents in our corner” and that’s going to completely flip to “cash rules everything around me” for at least until the status quo changes.

It’s all so weird to me.. It’s not like he can’t make a ton of money while at ND..
Simple matter of bird-in-hand here for the Keeleys.
Basically, this was not Keon’s decision, it was those around him. Matt Freeman believes that if it were up to Keon he’d be at ND.

If true, it’s just shocking that these parents are just grabbing dollars at the expense of their kids happiness. Especially from a family that was committed to ND for a little over 1 year.
@Dale Tell me again how this was also about relationships...
Watch him be a bust. This will be a fun thread to dig up in 4 years.
Even if he did, it's almost besides the point. We need to win these battles if we're ever going to truly compete with the elites.

Good on Freeman, but I hope he stays on this kid. Imagine the staff have up on Tuitt after external forces made him flip to GT all those years ago...

For some it will. For others it won't.

Up to the staff to identify these families during the process in addition to adapting and being more flexible with NIL.

Deion was and is right, but too many people were focused on the messenger instead of the message, especially people who fit our demographic on this board. Myself included. Yeah, I'll say it.

Deion was actually there, albeit at a different time, but he was the highly recruited guy once himself. He knows.

As I posted yesterday, Saban always complains but he always adapts. The transfer portal, the spread offense, NIL. He puts on the "get off my lawn" show and the sky is always falling when things change around him, but he always winds up ahead even if he falls a step behind.

Except we had mom in our corner and is the reason he flipped back to ND.

How sweet would it be to be able to offer him the money right before signing day and flip him back?

I already responded to this once, you didn’t respond. You told me to get of your dick when we disagreed a few days ago and now I see new tag from Piombino every time you appear. If you’d like to actually converse I’m down instead of whatever this.

Well if Bama did they then violated the rules. Not saying by any means they didnt. But shit the NCAA wouldnt do anything if they did because you know its BAMA and they own the NCAA. But Anyways Freeman has a no OV rule and its good he stuck with it even on the biggest name.

But its different if he wants to take OVs to Bama, OSU and UF this fall. He isnt committed at all then and good for Freeman if its true he told him to decommit. Its probably true since it came from two different sources
They would never do this.

I am sure this is not a good day for Marcus Freeman. No way to spin this other than a loss. Clearly, ND BOT and Freeman have to reconcile with the fact that landing 5 stars from lower income families will be very hard without upfront money. This is yet another limitation for ND. I do not believe ND and Freeman can spin this as a positive in terms of landing future 5 star kids from lower income families.

This makes getting a Natty so, so much harder as OSU, LSU, BAMA, UGA will fork out the cash.

Good for Marcus. I travel around the different CF boards and it sounds - for the last 3 to 4 weeks - that this one is coming down to Alabama and OSU with Alabama and Satan the favorites. Also read that Alabama and OSU are battling for 4 or 5 national blue chip DLs and this is the 1st one.

This is why your posts drive me insane, bro.

How do you know that they're a "lower income" family, or that any five star is from a low income household? Even if, hypothetically, the Keeleys made $125k dual-income, which is above the nationwide average, that doesn't mean a check worth millions is something to bat an eyelash at. Have you ever seen that much money? I highly doubt it. Guess you can call yourself low income, too.

So damn ignorant.

Absolutely, even if he invested 500k of it @ a measly 12% percent in 20 years that's almost 5 Mil. I bet lower than 1%of ND alumni, who didn't have a trust fund when they were born weren't worth 5 Mil at 38.

That's why 4 for 40 doesn't matter to a 5 star.
Great for 3 and 4 stars though.
Huh?? 12% what fantasy world you live in Arahop. Is Bernie Madoff your investment advisor that can get you a consistent 12%?

"Bro?" Did you go to ND? Are you actually Irish? I just got back from Dublin and no Bro being spoken over there.

You make my point for me regardless. If ND isn't going to pay out money, they are not going to get recruits in Lower or even Middle Income families who value such upfront money over a given degree.

Yes I live in Naples. Having millions is like bringing sand to the beach, bro.
