Tobias and Rico lead the WRs in snaps right? A true sophomore and freshman with a ton of playing time available heading into next year.

ND is once again going to get the top transfer QB in the portal to throw them the ball. What is the rational here with these guys?
I think they liked their WR Coach. Chansi is a very liked guy. Your position coach leaves and your world and view of the program can change radically.

Position coaches come and go, though. They have to know this. Stuckey could easily have left on his own for a different job too. Would they all run away then? I don't get it.

Leaving vs. being fired is a difference. Especially if they don't also trust the OC that is actually getting backed by the HC.

Sure. And they can be all bent that Freeman fired Stuckey and go run off to TCU or Washington State or whatever mid program will have them.
Or they can wait a beat, see who we hire for a WR coach and who we get at quarterback, and probably be better off in the long run. (Or, if not, leave after spring ball.). But this all feels like an irrational, probably emotional, reaction to the sort of turnover that happens every offseason all over college football. I have a hard time blaming Freeman for it.

Loy thinks it’s going to be tough to keep Rico from transferring
Then go, I think we as fans need to get on board with the changing of the guard... we can love ND and there's going to be interest there as a great University but the change in rooting for kids from freshman up is gone... going to be year to year with a couple feel good stories... at least for the foreseeable future

I see Rico as someone from a background that doesn't normally get a shot like this. He's talked about this in pressers about having friends and family in prison and wants ND to change his life.

It just floors me he'd be willing to give that up for a position coach that his head coach believes isn't fulfilling his duty.

I just don't understand this one at all

Man it really sucks to lose Larry Fitzgerald

Edit: this is to kinda make fun of Greg at ISD and others who were being hyperbolic preseason comparing Flores to Larry because of his dreads lol

Maybe he sees it differently and believes his OC or HC are the ones not fulfilling their duties.

It’s obvious that Freeman read this situation wrong. We can argue about the impacts but this clearly was not part of the plan.

Why would it be that surprising if he has been reading this wrong for awhile or from the beginning?

So Freeman isn’t responsible for keeping his own recruits within the program?? Okay, got it….

So to be clear you would have kept Stuckey to avoid losing Flores?

Freeman’s primary responsibility is to run a good and successful football program.

If he thinks that an assistant coach, after a couple of years, is not contributing enough to that effort, he should replace that coach with someone better, not keep him on out of fear that a couple of freshmen in a weak position group might transfer.

And those freshmen - and the adults in their lives - should have the wisdom to be a little patient, trust their decision to come to Notre Dame, and see what develops in the transition. They can always leave in a few months, college football will still be there.

If they lack that patience, that says more about them than it does about Freeman.

The one good thing is that no one can blame Del for the state of the WR room anymore
Uh, the hell we can't.

ND shouldn't be in the situation they're in at WR.

Losing 2 freshman receivers, especially one that contributed as much as Flores did, sucks.

But the reality that we signed as many receivers in this freshman class than Kelly/Del did in 3 of their final 4 classes COMBINED is negligence of insane proportions. Their roster management and recruiting contingency prep was insanely bad.

Fact is, ND should be in a position to endure this. Maybe a setback, but this shouldn't be the absolute gut-punch that it is, if Kelly actually did his f*cking job.

The reason I don’t think Freeman knows what he’s doin mg here is that the timing made no sense. There was zero incentive to make this move now versus after the bowl game. All it did was lob a hand grenade into an already volatile situation.

Only thing is portal entry starts before bowl. So if goal was keep xyz on roster then move needs made before portal opens right?

I did not rate Rico. He looked stiff. Like the 22 version of Styles except with better hands.

Idk waiting until after the bowl probably eliminates a lot of the top options. What's stopping A&M or some other offensively impaired blue blood from spending $1.2MM on Jamarcus Sheppard while we wait around with a lame duck. We'd really look like idiots then.
