The question is, was he that hurt? Was his injury that debilitating? I think not.
Debilitating injury vs. able to play to your full potential in a high level competitive environment. This may be a way to allow him to get his ND degree while still working his way back to possibly play “somewhere”.

Bummer for the kid. Hope he either gets the degree or goes somewhere to play down the line.

Notre Dame will never ever in a million, bajillion years be over the 85 limit when the season starts. It’ll always work out.

There are three types of medical hardship scholarships given out:

1. Processing players who are done with football but want to stay in school.

2. Guys who have recurrent or major injuries to the point where they don't have the ability to contribute in the short term but may want to transfer out when/if they get healthy.

3. Guys who have legitimately career ending injuries.

I would put Gobaira in category 2, same with guys like Moala from the past regime.

Hopefully he has a big season of development and ND recruits him back.
That probably isnt allowed but its the wild west now so why not?

Coming out of HS, I thought he'd be a monster in college given his unfilled frame. Injuries suck - best of luck at JMU. Could be a big time move for VA's best program.

I fully believe that if the 105 rule came into affect in the '24 off-season & not '25, Gobaira more than likely still would have been at ND.
