Length, you mentioned, Dale and He, Ford, Agu Zeigler and Burnham are all 6'4" or over
And the targeted WRS, Merriweather, Williams, Walker, Anderson and Ayomanor are all of size.

Can you or Jack or Boone or Cackalacky or Crus or Lucc or Whiskey opine if LENGTH is a primary screen for players now?

It seems that this would dovetail with Balis ability to add lean muscle mass.

Even Sneed and Tuihalamaka are taller than Drew White.

Is this a new normal?

I’d say yes the new normal. Elston specifically seems to like identifying the kids that can pack on a ton more. I’ve heard Bud Elliott talk about elite OL/DL being the bigger HS kids that already have the weight and show the agility/speed in HS but the true eval is kids with elite height/speed that you can add the weight and not give up anything. Something like if you can add like 25% of your body mass and not give up anything is how you get a elite kid who outperforms his ranking

Rice is a massive human being, granted. But I go back and forth on how much Gobaira’s frame could add. At first I thought a ton more than he’s already himself added, now recently I’ve swung the other way. I’m sure Balis already knows lol

I don't care all that much how much weight he can put on. Dudes got that Aaron Lynch/Julian Okwara level burst. Could play at 250-260 and be great.

That's where I'm at. He doesn't need to be a 270 DE, he could be phenomenal in the 245-260 range.

lol yeah reminds me of Julian a lot when as an underclassmen folks always worried about him putting on weight and then that one summer he lost like 13 lbs and balled out

He absolutely, 100% has the frame to get north of 260 pounds if he wants. Easily. Source: my own eyeballs having him in camp for a week.

Much skinnier guys (like Sam Hubbard) have packed on much more weight. Hubbard was like 210 pounds soaking wet playing safety and lacrosse midfielder heading into his senior year, was ~230 leaving high school, and ended up at ~270 going into the NFL.

Not worried either way just results in a difference in what expecting him to play position wise

I actually was wondering if he was like Hubbard. He definitely seems more advanced at this time.

Yeah, he is light years ahead of Hubbard right now. Hubbard was an all-upside prospect that I thought Diaco was stupid not to offer because of his athletic profile. Ended up being right because he developed into a mid-round NFL player.

Gobaira is already bigger and stronger than Hubbard, and has film dominating on the DL.

I mentioned this the other day as there has been some concerns, on various message boards, over the Vyper depth chart with Devin A transferring and Agu's de-commitment. I think Aiden profiles to a WDE/Vyper for now. He's got a great frame to add weight but that weight will take some time and it should take some time. I think he plays multiple years in the 250's. With that said, it wouldn't be all that surprising if he eventually got to the 265 range by the time he leaves. At which point he's in the SDE conversation and we'll have filled in the depth chart behind him with other WDE/Vypers.

From a profile perspective he's a carbon copy of Myjai Sanders who was Freeman's hand down WDE at Cincy, in the 3 DL base. 6'5 258. Same goes for Keeley who seems to be even taller/longer. Also, Schweitzer was a Vyper from last class and if you've seen pictures of him, he's already developing quite well.

Some of this will all depend on what front Freeman is running. 3 down WDE or "4 down" with a Vyper and traditional SDE. Typically, Big Ends are even bigger than 4-3 SDE's so like Kareem and Ade were always south of 270. While a lot of Big End's, in 3-3-5 schemes will play 275+. Malik Vann last year at Cincy was 6'4 275. MTA will play this year around 280. A Big End in a 3 down front has to be an even more run dominant defender. I don't see that ever being Aiden, at least full time. But probably perfectly fits Vernon and Ford.

So, I'll be surprised if Aiden ever moves to being a full time Big End but I could see him go back and forth between Vyper, WDE, and SDE if we keep the 4 down front from previous schemes.

I’ve trained a lot of high school athletes. His frame could easily hold another 20/25lbs in just his legs without missing a step.

lol, he wouldn't be able to move his legs if he put 25 lbs on his legs. Maybe you mean in his lower body?

I don't disagree that he could store more weight. He has somewhat narrower shoulders compared to Rice but that's not saying much. He's long and lean.

BTW, go buy a 11-12 lb brisket and imagine adding one to each leg.

He looks a little thinner there than I expected. That's a good thing for me. Would like to see him play in his prime in the 250's and stay on the vyper side.

Current R&R's:

247 Comp ..... 4* ..... #31 DL ...... #218 OA ..... 9154
247 ................ 4* ..... #22 DL ...... #148 OA ..... 92
Rivals ............. 4* ..... #15 WDE .. #248 OA ..... 5.8
ESPN ............. 4* ..... #25 DE ...... #286 OA ..... 81

Dropped out of the rivals 250 apparently. Not sure what they’re watching.

I haven't checked or read much about the rating/rankings changes yet but are we sure he dropped out or was just never in them? I guess I don't remember what he was at before this update.

Edit: So, I just checked his front page and it has him, as of 7/16, at #248 overall. So, he did slide out a bit but we don't know how much. It was a bad rating/ranking before this and got worse. Rivals blows ass.

He probably fell out because others moved up. Just want to see his senior year and then I think he'll jump up everyone's board.

I had completely forgotten about how great the DE class was until earlier this week.

Yea, it's going to be a quite the depth chart for next year. Foskey is really playing well but looks like a lock to come back. Justin A, Foskey, Botelho, Goabaira, and Ford (Big End) as edge players of some sort seems like a cheat code compared to previous ND teams, lol.

I heard something from one of the podcasts that Justin A might leave too. If not for the Draft, then on to another team to get more snaps aka Ovie

I had not heard that. Interesting. I would think SDE/Big End opens up quite a bit next year with MTA gone. I would think Justin steps in as the starter at Big End with Ford probably getting 2nd or 3rd team reps with someone like Nana or Ehrensberger in there as well.

I think they could sell him on being Jamir Jones+ from '19. But couldn't Foskey just as easily slide over to Big End to get him and Botelho on the field at the same time?

I certainly think Foskey and Botelho should be on the field together. Heck, I think they should be on the field together this season. But, if I was putting together a depth chart for a 4 down base, I'd probably rather have a guy like Justin penciled in as the starter at SDE than Foskey. I also think Freeman could/should just do more stuff like he did against Wiscy where he plays Botelho like an extra LB (4-4, if you will).

I just think Justin A is a good football player and while it's important to get the young gets reps, I think the DL has been consistently good is because we've been consistently old and young athletic at the same time. I think we need both.
