There werw plenty of insiders who disagrees with ISD's optimism. Regardless, it was clear he was rooting with ND at the end. Doesn't seem like something a kid who was serious about ND would do IMO...

I didn’t follow as closely till ‘22 class but ISDs sentiment the above listed I’m pretty sure was the majority sentiment

Correct. It was always Clemson for Shipley. Regardless if COVID hit or not it was always going to be Clemson for Shipley.

Of course the one thing that Penn State has going for it is "Leadership"
by student athletes like ]
John Amaechi
Carl Nassib
while it may be "fake news" there is a rumor circulating that instead of a "white out" on Mt. Nittany
that Amaechi and Nassib will return with free Tshirts and have Paterno U have its first

James Franklin has always struck me as a Ron Zook type. He recruits well, delegates, hires good assistants but when it comes to the meat and crust of being a head coach he leaves a great deal left to be desired. He can win 8 games on the talent alone but when it comes to the ones that matter if all things are equal he'll coach his way to a loss.

What's he done? He has one win each against Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State.

He was gifted the Cotton Bowl vs Memphis in 2019 too. Meanwhile ND gets Iowa State in the Mowing Bowl...

Right, and what's his stock worth?

I remember a time when a lot of ND boards were clamoring about Michigan and Michigan State "outrecruiting" ND. How's all that looking these days?

Harbaugh can say he coached an NFC Champion team that played in a Super Bowl. I really don't know what to say about Franklin other than he took over a program that received a slap on the wrist when they should have been blown off of the athletic map for one of the most horrible scandals of my lifetime.

Correct.

The general majority was that, at the very least, ND was well in it for Shipley and an official visit could have turned the tide in that recruitment.

This comes from Jamie on ISD, who I hold among the highest in regards in the ND recruiting circle. Other sites said much of the same, that it was a back and forth battle between ND and Clemson during the prior weeks before his decision.

Doesn't mean ND was going to land him if COVID didn't happen, but it absolutely made a huge difference, because instead of having at the very least a punchers chance to land him in the end with a good OV, they had virtually no shot. That logic absolutely squares with everything I've read on the situation, ISD or otherwise.

I'll take the expert at ISD's word over just about anyone regarding ND recruiting. Their track record speaks for itself and I have no reason to doubt their logic here.

Franklin has beat Michigan more than once. Waxed them in 2017 and beat UM the week before UM waxed ND in 2019. I thought they beat them last year too but don’t remember.

Point is valid that he’s an overrated coach tho.

Franklin's best job was at Vandy where getting talent is a lot harder than hiring coaches with hot wives.

Can confirm directly from a local source here: Singleton loved ND, he wanted to end the process and sign his LOI on the trip, ND staff and his parents told him to finish the other visits then decide. ND is in the driver seat.

Dude hitting that "fax button" for that "Early, Early Signing Day".

Evan Flood, the Wisconsin 247 Insider, put in a medium level CB for Singleton to ND. UW was one of his OVs. My own personal confidence on this one (based on nothing but gut) has been shrinking over the last week but that's a nice sign, along with Leppy's scoop.

FWIW Bama's second RB commit Moss is apparently looking around and may not be the most solid of commits.

Came here to say the same thing.

I don't feel great but can't hate the news considering the source.

"We want you to make the best decision for yourself". That speaks volumes, especially with the parents.

I also think there's an element of strategy based on timing. It's June, so if Singleton commits without taking OVs elsewhere there's nothing stopping him from deciding to OV to Bama for a GameDay in November. He's not locked in until he signs in at earliest December. Better to have him use up his OVs on summer visits. If it was late October and Singleton wanted to commit, I'm betting the staff wouldn't tell him to go on all his visits.

shits getting weird on 247. Fong says Penn State is roaring back. A lot of optimism on their board. Also, people saying that he unfollowed ND Football on Instagram. (I am not that "people")
