Can confirm directly from a local source here: Singleton loved ND, he wanted to end the process and sign his LOI on the trip, ND staff and his parents told him to finish the other visits then decide. ND is in the driver seat.

No way to spin it other than this is a pretty big hit and the second time the offensive staff misread a recruit. I love Price, but the best way to avoid situations like we're in right now with receiver is to keep stacking elite talent on top of each other. ND now 0-3 against Penn State for elite offensive talent this cycle.

How did/who said the staff misread it?

If we lose him for any other reason than he wants to stay close to home then BK, TR, and LT need to do an apprenticeship with Freeman and Elston on just how exactly to sell the program. Each have had more than enough time in the program to earn their stripes and yet our brand new DC who hasn’t coached a game is making the biggest waves.

Correction, if we lose him to PSU! If we lose him to Saban, well I guess we just got schooled.

So, if no Singleton, who else would ND take? It seems like all the high interest guys have recently committed or are close to commuting.

I don’t know. I’ve always said that if they do, I’d like to see them go after a speed specialist or APB type back. But I’ve never read that.

in the absence of names to discuss, I’m inclined to think we hold the scholarship. But I guess we’ll have to see.

Emeka Megwa was the Plan B name that continued to get most talk into June.

Damari Alston, Quinshon Judkins and Gi’Bryan Payne are others.

Staying on Singleton regardless could be an option.

or no second back and fill with guys at other spots.

Have to ask…is Taylor just not a monster recruiter like we thought he might be?

Chris Tyree was an elite snag. Shipley has been litigated elsewhere, maybe it was even this thread but it was a home run shot just came up at the warning track

If/when Singleton picks PSU, I wouldn't be against them using that scholarship at a different position.

But it is only June, maybe they find a running back they like this fall.

Can’t remember where I read it but I believe it was at least inferred that the staff had decided before Sawchuck even called them that they weren’t going to be having any more 2022 RB’s on campus because they were that confident on Singleton.

That was definitely implied by the pay sites.

Ive noticed over the years that ESPN almost always ranks prospects significantly lower, kind of the outlier, as the other sites.

Whereas the 24/7 composite is always significantly higher... anyone know why this is? Or am I just seeing a pattern that's not really there?

Do not recall that but regardless no RBs changed visit plans in June besides Sawchuk who committed to OU and Megwa who still visited, just not as an OV. The other Plan B targets I don’t recall ever setting up visits

The sky will not fall if Singleton commits to PSU, welcome to recruiting; ND is not going to get them all. If ND didn't have Price committed and they lost out on Singleton then OK recruiting at the RB position could be questioned.

If Singleton commits to PSU, does he stick?

Everything is sticky at pedostate. Not enough bleach in the whole keystone state to clean the shame of what happened there. That program should have been eliminated.

I want Singleton and I hope the staff fights for him but JD is a really good pickup after the last 2 classes.

Agreed makes him a want instead of a need. Also still have some lingering minor concerns with his high school offense being a pitch option deal that it may take a bit longer to translate over

I really like Megwa. One of the first 2022 films I watched and he really impressed me. It would suck to miss on Singleton, I'm not throwing in the towel just yet, but I would be happy with Megwa. I'll take 2 RBs from Texas any year. I would also be just fine with Price.

Not gonna lie, Wiltfong is hard to take seriously in this situation. He literally CB'd ND a few days ago, and all of a sudden, it's back to PSU? What happens in a few days when ND's staff talks to him?

This is a situation where I want them to land Singleton, but it isn't a need, because ND has their premier back already in the fold. I think some are forgetting just how good Price is. Again, I'd like both, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it if we don't.

There are at least two to three of these each cycle. We all know members of the staff feed the services, but it seems on some of these bigger/national prospects the staff (whomever it is) is either overconfident, blind, naïve, all/some combination of all of these. Nobody is going to bat 1.000. But having a cynical view is almost a requirement when viewing staff fed recruiting updates.

I mean, I'm pretty sure the kid has simply flip flopped on his commitment multiple times in the last week. I'll be curious if the staff can get him back in the bag.

Penn State not just casually rolling over and letting us take the best skill position player in their state?

Been awhile since we've had even a semi-dramatic recruiting battle, so I'm actually looking forward to this one. BTW he absolutely did "silent" to ND on his visit. Grab your popcorn and hope for the best.
