He attempted 80 passes in two years and a quarter of those were against a depleted coachless Oregon State team in a bowl game.

I like the kid, but I'm really failing to see whatever greatness others are able to see here.
I think he is a good quarterback but if he wants to start he is a better fit for a lower end power four or a top end group of five program, not a Notre Dame.

I'm stating the obvious of course

Does anyone know if he has the "do not contact" tag in the portal? IE, does he already have somewhere in mind or is he shopping around?

Way to strawman. Nobody was saying he was great. They appreciate everything he did for ND—and he really did some good things for ND, and it's OK to say that. We wish him well. I also think that just about everyone is happy that Carr is likely QB1. Both things are true, and it's as simple as that.

You seem to be trying to bring "reality" to a situation that wasn't needed.

I certainly don't blame him and we assume he sees the writing on the wall at ND. But...I think he would have more/ better options if he waited until Dec 2025 portal window to open up.

He would only have 1 year of eligiblity left, which decreases his value. Two years gives him time to go to a new team, learn the system and build up to a (hopefully) good final year. Leaving in December gives him one shot, and Steve isn't the kind of talent that would maximize outcomes in a one-and-done situation.

It's a bit of a stretch to consider they don't beat Penn State without him going 6-7 for 44 yards and taking two sacks, which a few are doing in responses to the news he's transferring. Angeli did his job. So did James Franklin.

Angeli was boss against Oregon State in the bowl game, whatever the circumstances. He showed up and showed out when he was called upon. Without question. Great kid who was QB2 and did the job when called upon. Yes. It's ok to say these things. It's ok to appreciate him. I do too. To a point.

Apart from that, it should come as no surprise that the guy who was recruited to ND to be the guy is going to be the guy and Angeli isn't.

Leaving in December gives him 8 solid months to get acclimated to a new team and new system. Arriving to a new place in June gives him 3 months. It's one thing for a DT or CB to do that. Much more difficult for a QB.

In spring, most teams know who their guy is gonna be at QB. In December, there's a ton of movement and graduation which means more opportunities for a grad transfer.

For sure, but there are still opportunities out there and Angeli has put enough down on tape that some low-P4 or high-G5 type programs will offer him at least a legit shot to be their QB1 this fall (which was probably not the case for Minchey).
Then he's still there for the following season with a full year in the program under his belt. Or he can be that guy and bounce to another place in December if need be.
If Carr is indeed the guy, and especially if Minchey was rising into QB2, this was the best move for Angeli to ever actually run his own show as a quarterback.

He still only has one season in that scenario, and he isn't the type of talent that is going to dramatically improve your team over one season. With two, he can go to a place where year one is a building season and year two is a well-oiled machine.

Agree, I think most QBs fall under this category. Imagine how much hype Leonard would be getting as a Heisman contender if he could come back this year

"Took two sacks" the Oline was getting destroyed that day. One of the two sacks was literally at the end of his drop, in about 2 seconds, off of his blindside, and the other was a bad snap and our RT got smoked off the line. Neither was his fault. Watch the tape if you don't believe me, @ulukinatme me shared a 90 second video above. That take in this instance is completely disingenuous. It's well known that he held the ball too long at times but let's not act like every sack was his fault, particularly against a vaunted pass rush and young, beat-up OL ND pieced together late last season.

Not sure why what you said had to be said. Nobody said Angeli was "great" or we will miss his "greatness." The dude took advantage of the opportunities he was afforded. He helped us win a national semi-final football game, and no, I don't believe ND wins against Penn St without his drive to give us momentum heading into the locker room, in a game where we were lucky to be down only two scores by then. We hadn't moved the ball really that entire first half and he got us our first points in a game that we ultimately won by 3.

Nobody said he was a Heisman contender. Could ND have won a lot of football with him this fall as the starter? Probably. But are we all happy Carr is likely going to be the guy? Absolutely. Why can't both be true?

Just a weird spot for a contrarian take, IMO. Angeli did what he could. We are thankful for his time here. He seemed like a quality teammate, and he's run out of runway at ND. That's all that has to be said.
