That's where he belongs, if we're being honest. Sorry, Singer.

Agreed... Probably unfair to the kid but I'm always going to compare him to Allar and from the get go I never thought the two were close.

Same. I mean absolutely nothing against Steve as a person, but I just don't see four-star talent when I watch him and I sure do when I look at Allar. Steve was always a three-star recruit, and Rivals just caught up to that.

IMO he is right in line with most other Kelly QBs and Im not super psyched about him anyway. Not surprised and not dissappointed (#LowExpectaitons). Anyway I hope he balls out.

I'm somewhere in-between. I've said this before but I think the best word to describe him is solid. He's good/solid at almost everything. Therefore, I think he's a high floor guy. But, I also don't think there is a single elite trait about him or much of a ceiling here. My personal opinion on where we should take QB recruiting is to either recruit the elite QB's or recruit guys with an elite trait or two. Angeli is neither one of those so I'm reasonably disappointed from that perspective. But, I'm also not going to act like Steve can't win a lot of ball games at ND with the team we'll likely have around him. I feel confident he's not THE guy but I'm also confident he's not a nobody.

I pretty much agree with you regarding Angeli. I don't think we are going to line up against the Alabama/Clemson/OSUs of the world with Angeli at QB and feel confident we've got the advantage, but we can probably beat most other teams on the schedule with him.

I feel like there are three tiers of QB recruits at Notre Dame: 1. Players you think you can win the biggest games with; 2. Players you can win most games with, assuming you surround them with great talent; 3. Practice arms.

Notre Dame needs to be recruiting and landing those first-tier QBs if they are serious about winning it all. I think that's what kind of drove me nuts about the Book talk, in that ND media defended him by pointing out how much success he had, as if that meant he was above criticism. Book won so many regular season games, but it took a miracle for him to beat a Clemson at home without Trevor Lawrence. And we saw what happened in the CFP during his time.

Agree. I think its clear Kelly has shown he can win with non elite QBs but if a NC is the goal the team needs (deserves) an elite QB.

So potential game manager? Similar to Coan? Here’s a video I found on Rivals Twitter feed.

https://twitter.com/G1Bound/status/1396856182497816584?s=20

You can see him working on his foot work and reads. He makes some pretty darn good throws. They also seem pretty effortless.

I wasn’t overly excited when he committed, I didn’t feel we chased a big enough fish (especially after Buchner). But, if Coan proves to be The Guy, and Angeli is anything similar, maybe we have us a very underrated QB? Time will tell I guess.

I'm in the complete minority regarding Angeli, but I really like the kids game. He has good height at 6'2" or 6'3" and I think he has a stronger arm than most give him credit for. Personally I think he is a much better HS recruit than Ian Book and if given the opportunity should have just as good if not better college career than Mr. Book. Just my two cents, which isn't worth sh*t...

They don't call you "the Prophet" for nothing, Sherm.

Teams that landed a higher rated QB include Purdue, Maryland, Michigan State, Missouri, Iowa State, Cal, and West Virginia. Not saying ratings are everything. Not saying Angeli will be a bum. I understand some of these kids weren’t fits, but it definitely raises some questions.

He's fine.

In an ideal scenario he never plays a meaningful snap for Notre Dame though.

2021: Coan
2022: Buchner
2023: Buchner
2024: Moore/2023 5* QB

I was totally convinced Kiel and Jurko would have taken over. If last is prose Angeli takes over and Buchner transfers out and Moore doesn’t come. Lol.

You can go two ways with this. All how you want it to fit your argument.

Teams that landed a higher rated qb than Ian Book per 247 composite - https://247sports.com/Season/2016-F...?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&PositionGroup=QB

Marshall, Texas Tech, USC, Penn State, Pitt, Virginia Tech, UNC 2x, K State, Minnesota, Baylor, Oregon, Cal, Az St, UCLA, S Car 2x, MSU, Clemson, Auburn, Nebraska, Louisville, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Miami, OSU, Tenn, Michigan, Florida, FSU, Stanford, Georgia, Ole Miss.

Of all those there is only about 4 I would have ended up wanting over Book - Eason at Georgia, Feleipe Franks at Florida, Haskins at OSU, Jalen Hurts at Bama

If you don't land a high ceiling, top 150 prospect as a team like Notre Dame, it almost doesn't matter who you get anymore. We will always be able to get a serviceable Jack Coan level guy from the portal every year as a stop gap.

We should be going all out for elite guys every single year and figuring it out later if we get into late summer and strike out. Guys like Angeli we should be able to pluck from lower P5 schools whenever we want IMO.

Not a fan of the immediate transfer rule exactly what I laid out above.

Is that true though? Who besides Coan fits that definition from the portal this year? Some decent names but mostly unproven backups like Mordecai. If there aren’t multiple guys that meet that definition I don’t think you can assume that is an available option every year.

If anything the opposite types are available, intriguing elite at certain things guys like Shough or TJ Finley are more abundant than seasoned plug in vets.

I hadn't read this thread since 8-18 when Lucky posted Rivals downgrade to 3* status. That was followed by everyone jumping on the... Angeli's a 3* prospect, train.

All except the prophet that is. As of last night, Sherm needs to come in and take his victory lap.

BTW... That's Archbishop Hoban on the road. They were #2 in Ohio behind only St X per Maxpreps. And finished last year #1 in the same poll even though they are a D2 school unlike St X, Mentor, Pick Central, etc...

Hoban has been a dominant program for the close to a decade. I'll admit this is a very impressive performance. Hoban usually churns out quite a few d1 prospects pretty regularly especially along the o line. Not a very good performance for Ohio football but a very encouraging sign for ND fans

Singer was fairly vocal about Rivals dropping him to a 3 star. I liked seeing that fire, haha.

At least someone is listening to me. I really think Steven is the real deal and only scratching the surface of his potential. He really has a quick release and the velocity is good enough.
