He'll almost certainly be 220+ by the time he's enrolled at Notre Dame. I don't want to think or say "Chase Claypool played at 225, so this guy can do it too" because Chase was a unicorn and expecting Claypool numbers from his isn't fair. It'll be interesting to see if he gets over 230 and now you have an uber athletic tight end.

I posted this article from Sinclair in the weekly recruiting review. But I'll double post it here as it gives a fun insight into how Elic got the offer. The person being interviewed is Canadian Trainer Scott Dillon of 730 scouting. Who works with Elic.

WR Elic Ayomanor: From Canadian Phenom to Notre Dame Recruit (247sports.com)

“He just told me he didn't even get to do the whole (set of) drills and everything,” Dillon said. “They just pulled him aside...I think he ran his 40…I forget what he told me it was but it was something ridiculous. And then they made him do this one drill…(testing whether) he fights for the ball and (whether) he has good, strong hands.

Apparently the staff didn't have to see much in order for him to get the offer, lol.

I really want him to jump into the fold before spots start getting tight. We'll have 4 spots minimum, maybe 5 if a top 15 WR wants to join late.

Ayomanor needs to be one of the players in this class.

Deerfield (Mass.) Academy class of 2022 wide receiver and Canadian native
Elic Ayomanor
had been a hidden gem in the Northeast but that is quickly changing.

This summer, Ayomanor is getting very little down time, as he’s traveling all over the country for visits and camps with his high school head coach Brian Barbato. For Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion June 6, he showed off his skills to the coaching staff.

“It was awesome,” Ayomanor said of his experience at Notre Dame. “A couple of hours before registration, they gave us tour around campus and presentations on Notre Dame football. I very much enjoyed that.

“We started out with testing (broad jump and 40-yard dash) which went pretty well. After that, we did positional drills, and then we got into routes on air and one-on-ones. The coaches were impressed with how I was moving for my size and my ability to get in and out of my routes.”

Ayomanor during his Vanderbilt visit last week.
There was one thing left that the Notre Dame staff wanted to see before offering Ayomanor. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees pulled Ayomanor aside to work with him one-on-one. Rees wanted to see more of Ayomanor’s natural catching ability.

They simulated Ayomanor running an in-breaking route, and Rees was aiming in specific spots to see how Ayomanor would adjust to inaccurate throws. This was just one of the drills Rees put Ayomanor through.

“He’d throw it below my knees, behind me – testing how I’d test awkward balls to see if I was natural at doing that,” Aymanor added.

Mission accomplished. Ayomanor received the coveted offer from Notre Dame.

“It’s a testament to my hard work,” Ayomanor said. “It’s a school I was hoping to get when I came to America. I started out by looking at high-academic and great football schools. It doesn’t mean that I can stop working. There’s still a lot left in front of me and a lot more I have to do.”

Ayomanor couldn’t spent a lot of time at Notre Dame, but in the few hours he was on campus, he liked what he saw.

“The campus and facilities are beautiful,” he said. “The university is historic. I really enjoyed the coaching staff and working out with Coach [Del] Alexander and Coach Rees. I enjoyed how they presented themselves and how they sold the football team. I hope to get out there again.”

Right after the Notre Dame camp, Ayomanor took an official visit to Vanderbilt.

“It obviously checks that box – it’s a very, very good academic school,” he said. “I was very impressed by their coaching staff. They’ve made a new team culture after a bad year. Coach [Clark] Lea came from Notre Dame and introduced his philosophies on team culture, and you can see noticeable differences. I like their coaching staff, their background and what they’re planning to do with their offense. I was very impressed by them.”

He visited Tennessee after Vanderbilt and is currently out in California checking out the Cal Bears and Stanford. He will camp with the Cardinal in hopes to receive an offer from them as well.

He could take official visits to wrap up June with return trips to schools such as Notre Dame and Stanford under consideration.

“It’s up in the air,” he said.

Ayomanor is not working under any commitment deadline.

“When it feels right and I know which school I want to go to, that’s when I’ll commit,” he said. “Going out to all of these schools will give me a good idea of what they have to offer.”

I think on last week's ISD podcast, Mike Frank compared him to Michael Floyd. Seems like a bit much to me, but I'd take another Floyd

I can see if it's size and how well he moves at 6-2+ ... at 16/17. Everything else is on hold. Go ask K Austin about that.

If we concede, arguendo, there is many a slip twixt cup and lip, and the fat lady has not cleared her throat, let alone sung

What would opinion(s) be if the wide receiver class wound up

Merriweather
Williams
Walker
Ayomanor??

the choice here is, first binary, yes or no, after that, like a restaurant, we accept substitutions, but with a surcharge.........

Small context, he’s also circling back to other OVs as well, the Canadian quarantine means they are gonna knock these all out before going back over the border

Yes.

I'd add one more so Walker has flexibility but maybe that's too many in one class?

I think the following haul would be a great class:
Merriweather
Williams
Ayomanor
Bradshaw (much different build and skill set than rest)
Walker (take as an athlete with position flexibility)

Since this is a ND vs Stanford battle, I'll leave this story for everyone to read. Especially Elic & his Mom.

And remember, that's the Stanford Daily, not the ND Observer.

"At least the seats are red: Why is Stanford Stadium often empty?"

https://www.stanforddaily.com/2020/0...m-often-empty/

The last time Stanford played at ND I talked to some Stanford fans asking them about their attendance at home football games. They told me they schedule other sporting events the same day as football games and people are interested in attending those other sports.

Caring too much about football is very low-brow. We benighted papists wouldn't understand that, though.

Only Irish Envy can take you from benighted papists and then drop you straight into Koon's Greatest Hits.

This is EXACTLY what Al Gore had in mind when he invented this shiit.

Loy gives off the vibes that was absolutely not the case. Sounds like the offensive staff just pissed down their leg with Anderson.

i don't think anyone actually believes it's the case. I love the upside of Ayomanor so I'd really like to add him to the '22 group. I think Anderson would've had a faster chance at early playing time given his advanced route-running skills but oh well, next man up.

Only the unexceptional spend time wondering what-if. The coaches will continue recruiting the players they desperately want and we can keep moving on. Life plays out as it does, there are no hypothetical other scenarios. The coaches are giving it their best shot, they may need some recruiting team adjustments in the future. I'm going to watch how it unfolds before jumping to conclusions.
