Apparently TE.
But actually it was more of a funny blurb but Singer said ND staff loved Lucas’ family and they were showing the staff 7-7 TE highlights all weekend.
I do see the 3-4 DE in him, I’m not sure schematically ND can’t convince him to be a 4-3 DT and it’s not that different at all but that’s their job.
I think he'd be a great 4T or 5T in a 3-4. I think he'd be a great Big End for Freeman.
With that being said, a 3T in a 4-3 is much different than a 4t or 5T in a 3-4. A 3T is outside shoulder of the Guard. So, he will still always be inside of the tackle. While a 4 or 5T is either head up on the tackle or outside shoulder of the Tackle. Which would put him on the outside short of an attached TE. A 3T, outside of a stunt, cannot win truly going outside. While a 4 or 5T can. Tuitt is a good example of a 5T working outside pass rush versus say, MTA and Jayson A, as examples, haven't had that type of reality. At least until now for MTA. Tillery didn't either, accept when they'd allow him to stunt with Kareem.
This isn't to say he doesn't want to or wouldn't play a combination of both but they are quite a bit different if he envisions himself as an edge type of pass rusher. He'd never get that opportunity if he was a 4-3 DT outside of stunts.
I think they're taking the right approach to it and telling him he'll play all over. Which is not only true but also very likely.
