This is a tough time to be a recruit. These kids can't and won't get to enjoy the experience with this pandemic.

NCAA is goingg to need to make some adjustments to the recruiting calendar IMO

Good thing we have the best recruiting coach in the country. Not like he ever rest of his laurels and always aims for moon! In Kelly I trust!

Hearing out UM coaches?

Among a list of other schools as well. As of now, he’s saying he wants to keep relationships with other schools. Have no idea the depths of that but this wouldn’t be unchartered territory to keep a guy like this. Jayson Ademilola would listen Bama whenever they called. Jaylon Smith kept a cordial relationship with Mattison when he was at UM. A lot of big time prospects do as they don’t want to burn bridges in the event they eventually meet up in the future. It’s a part of personal branding these days.

ND, as per always, is behind the curve. Other schools have obviously found a way to appeal to recruits during this time. We're getting out efforted. It's fucking embarrassing.

As I've said in other threads what in the f@ck is ND doing to keep their current recruits committed? If other teams are having virtual conversations is ND? Del has done an OK job here at ND, but if he wasn't our WR coach after the 2020 season I'd be OK with that.

Okay. If Styles actually flipped to Michigan, I think you all could start questioning things.

But we have had one decommitment in like 2 years now and everyone acts like the world is ending (and it ain't even cause this damn virus).

This virus thing has changed everyone's plans and how recruiting works, but ND has NOT stopped recruiting kids and putting in work. We just had a commitment of our own.

Fact of the matter is there is probably going to be loads of flips (for all teams) later in the year as we approach signing day because kids will have actually (hopefully) had a chance to take their visits. Right now kids are panicking and committing to teams to ensure that they have spots.

Yeah, but it's not exactly like that, is it? Word from people actually tapped into the program indicate that we lost Colzie because he "wasn't feeling the love". What that means, I don't exactly know. But what I do know is that if we ever want to hang with the Bamas and Clemsons of the world, we need people like Colzie. If that means stroking the kid's ego or at the very least keeping up with the Jones with regards to recruiting tactics during these times, THEN SO BE IT!

And not for nothing, but if you want to bury your head in the sand and pretend that there isn't smoke regarding Styles, be my guest and enjoy the view. Bottom line is the writing is on the wall and Notre Dame is once again getting lapped on the trail.

You're not wrong about loads of flips still to come, doesn't make the Colzie thing any more palatable. We have a QB stud committed for '21. How on Earth is it that our WR class is decreasing and not increasing? Unacceptable.

Tim Prister and gang on one of the more recent Irish Illustrated Insider podcasts, 3/26 episode I believe.

The story that has been presented by almost everyone is that distance is playing a factor. Not love.

The entire committed class tried to convince him to not decommit. Mom wants him at ND, and he likes ND, but he is worried it will be too far from home.

The kid gets plenty of love from everyone involved. Probably still does.

We have heard this from previous decommits. They lie, babies ect. But never, ever, ever say that BK needs to do better. BK is perfect.

Yes, ND is doing the same thing that other schools are. Is every assistant coach, that I'm less sure of. Keep in mind we just landed a 4 star DE from Texas that had offers from Bama, LSU, and Oklahoma. So, it's not like the whole recruiting department is suffering. Some perspective here is important. I'll share some thoughts in the MasterList thread.

This is precisely my point and I don't think it's unreasonable to raise an eyebrow considering we just lost one WR and there is smoke about another looking elsewhere. To be more blunt -- dafuq is Del doing?!

Strange, I didn't see your complimentary post in David Abiara's thread? If it was Bk's fault that we lost Colzie then BK gets props when we land Abiara. Pretty simple really, unless there is an alternative agenda.

BK face timed with Fisher, Spindler, and Tengwall before Tengwall's commitment. Obviously, his 'effort' didn't end up meaning much did it? Just like some have speculated it wouldn't have with previous prospects in previous cycles that claimed it was a deciding factor. It's an easy out.

Some things are Bk's fault and others are just the process of recruiting a large number of players from all over the country. It's either time to start accepting all information or not commenting at all. You seem to chime in at times like this to take shots at Bk but not when we get a commit from a DE that had LSU and Bama offers. Wonder why this is?

As I've stated numerous times, I think there is reason for criticism based on the information we have. However, if one cannot accept both sides of the recruiting process and enjoy the good with the bad. I'm not sure we have much of a need for that around here.

Cali is basically here to make sure we're all aware of BK's faults, and to discuss current events. And that's about it lol.

Sorta switching gears here...... I was sorting through some football cards from years ago and found one Lorenzo Styles (Sr) in his OSU uniform (draft rookie card). It was literally mixed in with Ricky Watters, Chris Zorich, Tim Brown and Jerome Bettis in their ND garb. I’m not sayin, I’m just sayin...........

I'm sure distance is part of it Beau, but "showing love" was not something Irish Illustrated crew just said randomly and moved on.

They came back to it later in the show and restated what they had heard and they were talking specifically about Colzie.

I firmly believe that the transition from recruiting as planned to this 'new norm' was not well orchestrated by our staff. Again, I took Mike Frank's update as a very literal explanation of what probably happened. We did not pivot fast enough and there was probably too much dead time. Combine that with resources (mainly time) having to go into new relationships/offers/etc and this is the result. All fair criticism, IMO. The second part being maybe most important.

In Colzie's case, that coincided with a unknown visit to UGA followed by a prolonged period of no contact. I think that is probably true. But what II loves to do is extrapolate one situation to many. Without explaining further. There are also several recruits who are raving about the contact with BK before and after corona virus. But, they don't go into those details. Even reporting is what Freeman did with his social media messages(ND needs to step it up) while also explaining that Bk got stood up twice for FT with the same prospect. Not everything is going smooth right now, but it's not all bad. Opportunities were missed but opportunities are also being gained/created.

I would call Colzie not "getting love" is 100% B.S. I still say ND has a shot if they put in an effort; if he would've "felt love" from his Georgia visit I believe he would've committed on the spot.

My experience, ND recruits just as hard as every other big time program. Whether FaceTime, text, calls, weekly post cards, etc. they are doing it. Recruiting is 24/7 business for these programs and coaches to maintain successful programs, and their jobs.... Parents/Recruits need to treat it as a business too. Don’t get caught up in the hype of the pictures, coaches telling you that you’re their guy, twitter articles, they plan to play you early, etc. Once again it’s a business, and until they sign that intent letter the recruiting process continues.

Recruits need to make the best personal/business decision for themselves academically, personally based on what position they play, and socially on what campus is a good fit for them.

For Lorenzo, whether he plays WR or DB he’s ALL IN at ND. For my son Sonny that may be different, we will go through the same process to determine what school is best fit for for him.

Best regards, Styles’ Mom

Ohio St is adding 5 stars and ND is losing them, plain and simple.

Very concerning that they're losing current commits AND the big time OL recruits they wanted.
