Getting overly excited on where 18 year old kids go to college is a fruitless endeavour. I do not believe that he would have chose ND even if he had visited. I think he knew from the get go, but just wanted to do the process, which if I was him would have totally done.

This kid. I just cant help but feel it was all a ride for him. Nothing has changed over the last 90 days Clemson wise that would have made a difference between now and then. This kid's mind was made up then, he just didn't have the character to say it then. I don't know if it was the balls or the fact that ND finally said, "ok kid, we have done all we are going to do. What do you say?" To me, he just went along for the bells and whistles and ND just kept it coming hand over fist. There is nothing any school would have done any more than ND did and anyone blaming BK or anyone else on the staff isn't looking at this remotely subjectively.

I don't care what you guys want to say about him being a good kid, he played ND and deep down you know it. Im not going to feel remotely bad seeing this kid hold a clipboard then transferring in two years.

You whine more than my children.

We're 33-6 over the last 3 years. That's our best 3-year stretch in 26 years, when Holtz went 31-5-1 between 1991-1993. It's going to be hard win more than that without upgrading our talent level first.

Without being dramatic, ND's hopes of taking the final step up under BK rely almost entirely on Tyler Buchner at this point.

You can get over the top in two ways:

1. Factory Style - Bama, OSU, Clemson
2. Generational QB Style - LSU (Burrow), Auburn (Newton), FSU (Winston)

ND can't get close to the factory-style recruiting, so they need the QB to carry them over the hump.

I'll also note that in most cases, even being a factory isn't enough. Look at UGA and LSU... UGA still can't get over the hump, and it took Joe Burreaux to create a focus for LSU's ridiculous yearly talent base to show up.

All of your examples from the "Generational QB" category are also factories, just less successful ones. So having a hero under center can be enough to take a 2nd-tier factory over the top, but I doubt it would be enough to overcome our institutional and cultural handicaps.

Worth noting Clemson was in that second group before they could dream of being in the first.

however, ND has shown they can at least enter the room without the generational QB. So the big question after "is Buchner the generational QB?" is "will the rest of the program be at the level to support him"

I'd argue that Auburn and FSU, while technically football 'factories' based on their situations, weren't recruiting at the elite level that we're seeing from Bama, Clemson and OSU on a yearly basis.

They had major holes that got covered up. Auburn covered up a bunch of issues with Cam Newton being Superman... He could have taken any team to a national championship simply by putting an offense on his back.

FSU had decent role players and a really good defense, but Winston made Kelvin Benjamin and Kermit Whitfield look like gamebreakers at WR... though they really weren't.

Yeah I said what I said. Terrible look. He's known where he was going for over a week now. Had all the media lined up. Told everyone but the staff until yesterday. ND was played and worst of all, so was Big Blake

He was uncommitted.
Even if his mind was "made up", he's still not committed.

A kid is aloud to participate in whatever he feels like. He said nothing, wrong. He did nothing, wrong.

He was considering us, and agreed to something that ISD (Blake) likely pitched to him. He was doing them a favor, got them clicks, etc. He helped the journalist if anything.

Blake is a smart kid. He knows this game how it works. He tried his best. He's not going to curl up in a ball and cry. I'd also be willing to bet he and Will will remain friends, because, believe it or not, you are allowed to do that...

Exactly. They were a really good program that couldn't get over the top until Deshaun Watson did his thing.

That put them over the top, and now they're camped there.

That's what ND needs from Buchner. No pressure, kid!

As long as Clark Lea is DC, the defense will be good enough. And a good-enough QB can get you through some questionable skill depth.

Hunter Renfrow isn't better than Chris Finke... but he looked like a national-championship-caliber receiver catching passes from Deshaun Watson.

NFL scouts might disagree - 5th round pick vs UFA

My guess is he called Clemson last week and let them know he was 95% in. Called ND reporters and ND yesterday to thank them and not blindside them.

Winning a CFP game is worth +2 to draft round grades lol

poor Finke lol - I agree with your assessment on the program though. With Lea here we should be able to count on the defense. It will be the run game around Buchner IMO. We appear to be putting the pass catchers around him.

Err.. What room is that?

Clemson 2018 is a really good semi-final game if Julian Love doesn’t get hurt.

It tells you they don’t have the depth they need (or the offensive fire power), but the program in general is in a better place than all but 6 or 7 other programs, probably.

That’s knocking on the door, and at least entering the room when things fall right...

Figuring out how to go all “Rick James Fuck Yo’ Couch” once they’re in the room that’s the question.

I'd keep in contact with him and trying to get him to visit.
Edit: Actually never mind, I just read the 247 commitment article. ND were never in it.

Good Luck to Will. I hope he has a better career than that old Stanford kid. Great athlete also. Wish we could have had better times for His recruiting process.

I hope what I read and heard on a podcast earlier was correct, and we have a new Graduate transfer rule in place.

What an odd year to be even.....GO 2020

What is it? I heard something about you can transfer once without losing a year. Is that it? Actually you are talking grad transfer so I don't know if we are talking about the same thing. Are they changing the transfer rules generally?

Not sure and It could be fake news... I heard there is a possibility of 4 graduate transfers we are very close to signing for this year. I've never heard that type of talk around our place before...

I'm sure some of our connections can easily knock this rumor down If need be.

Without a Doubt.
I'll give Will his due and not spread information I'm not 100 on anymore...
I just wish we were in different times and he could have visited.

I think he’s referring to the two we already have plus Speights and the CB from NCSU.

I'm meh on Speights. Just don't see what he can offer the running game that we don't already have.

But the NC State corner, Nick McCloud, yes please. Long, athletic and physical.
